Edwin F. Woody
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral Services for Edwin F. Woody, 62, of 630 Colonial Drive, were held Wednesday at St. James Church. The Rev. Agapit Jean and the Rev. Stephen Aldrich conducted the service. Acolytes were Joanne Green, Jane Millette, Theresa Hickey and Richard Ward. The organist was Jean Gross and the soloist Julia Lanter.
A poem was read by his daughter, Shelly Mokas; and a letter from his wife, Nancy (Connors) Woody, was read by Al Yazbick.
In respect for Mr. Woody's position as a safety analyst for the Department of Defense, school buses at all American military bases in Europe were stopped at the time of his funeral service.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. Jean conducting the committal. Bearers were Erin Woody, Kevin Woody, John Mokas, Al Yazbick, Carl Plasch and William Bartlett. A color guard from Hanscom Air Force Base provided full military honors at the cemetery. The flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to his wife.
Zacarias T. Chavez
PORTSMOUTH _ Zacarias T. Chavez, 84, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Sunrise Health Center.
Born Nov. 5, 1914, in Libmanan, Philippines, he was the son of Gaudencio and Maria Chavez. He lived there until moving to Portsmouth in 1976.
For many years, he was employed at the former Booth Fisheries until retiring.
He was an avid gardener and a wrestling enthusiast.
He was the husband of Felicidad (Cocatana) Chavez.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Manuel Chavez and his wife, Marilyn, of Portsmouth, Rogelio Chavez and his wife, Luzviminda, of Portsmouth, Arturo Chavez of Apex, N.C., Amadeo and his wife, Marjorie, of San Diego, and Edgardo and his wife, Joshee, of Woodbridge, Va.; four daughters, Irene Gackle and her husband, Ron, of Honolulu, Amparo Registrado and her husband, Ricardo, of Apex, Ofelia Bayhon and her husband, Romy, of Apex, and Lolita Drabinowicz and her husband, John, of Hudson, N.H.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother in the Philippines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers.
Herbert F. Rawson Sr.
NEWFIELDS - Herbert F. Rawson Sr., 71, of Pleasant Street, died suddenly Monday, June 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 24, 1927, in Stratham, he was the son of William and Faith (Wentworth) Rawson. He lived in Stratham for many years before moving to Newfields 22 years ago.
He was a self-employed brick mason for many years. He also worked for S.E. LaPerle & Son, Dwight Sharp Construction, Wentworth Lumber and Seacoast Mills Building Supply Co.
He was the husband of the late Grace (Davey) Rawson, who died in 1972, and of the late Barbara (Scruton) Rawson, who died in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Herbert F. Rawson Jr. of Nottingham, N.H., John E. Rawson of Newmarket and Allan Davey of Exeter; seven grandchildren, Tina Schurrman of Wilmington, Mass., Tami Glover of Exeter, Mathew and Victoria Rawson, both of Newmarket, Brenda Nisbit of Newmarket, Allan Davey Jr. of Rochester, and Christina Rawson of Exeter; seven great-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Ida Vigue of Epping and Laurie Wright of Barrington; a stepbrotherrad Rawson; and several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth E. Blake
KITTERY - Elizabeth Ellen Blake, 80, of 19 Love Lane, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at her home
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Kittery Point, she was the daughter of Ethel E. (Moore) Blake of Kittery and Herbert L. Blake . She attended Kittery schools and was a 1936 graduate of Traip Academy.
She attended the First Christian Church of Kittery Point. She was a member of the Rebecca's and the Piscataqua chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a bird lover and a member of the Audubon Society.
In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, Everett Blake and his wife, Ethel, of Derry, N.H.; two nieces, Brenda Kuhfuss and her husband, John, of Greenville, S.C., and Carol Pelletier and her husband, Michael, of Derry; and two nephews, Herbert Blake and his wife, Priscilla, of Hooksett, N.H., and Raymond Blake and his wife, Mary, of Sunapee, N.H.
Alfred F. Deyo Jr.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Alfred R. Deyo Jr., 55, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following open heart surgery.
Born Oct. 17, 1943, in Brattleboro, Vt., he was the son of Doris (Nutting) Deyo and the late Craig M. Deyo. He grew up in Springfield, Mass., and was a longtime resident of Epping and Hampton.
He was a longtime employee for his brother's business, Dan's Drywall of Northwood.
Survivors include three sons, Alfred R. (Richie) Deyo III of Symra, Ga., Mark Deyo of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Craig Deyo of Atlanta; a daughter, Angela Toplak of Newmarket; seven grandchildren; his mother of Seabrook; two brothers, Daniel Deyo of Northwood and James Deyo of Hampton; three sisters, Karyl Marshall of Seabrook, Sally Royal of Hampton, and Kathleen Blancato of Daytona Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
Janette L. Andrew
HOLBROOK, Mass. _ Janette L. (Gould) Andrew, 91, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, in Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, Mass., after a period of failing health.
Born in Abington, she was the daughter of Henry and Ina (Allen) Gould. She was a 1924 graduate of Abington High School and a graduate of Tufts Dental School. She was a resident of Holbrook for 48 years. She was a dental hygienist for Dr. Foss in Brockton, Mass., for many years.
She was a member of the Abington Garden Club. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and playing bridge.
She was the wife of the late James H. Andrew.
She is survived by a brother, Robert H. Gould of Hampton, N.H.; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Gould.
Thomas F. `Tiny' Sheehan Jr.
HAMPTON _ Thomas F. "Tiny" Sheehan Jr., of Hampton, formerly of Lowell, Mass., died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.
He was married to Mrs. Joyce (Davis) Sheehan, the Hampton tax collector, with whom he would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Sept. 16.
Born Aug. 10, 1942, in Lowell, he was the son of Mrs. Irene (Moran) Sheehan of Pelham, N.H., and the late Thomas F. Sheehan Sr. He was a 1961 graduate of Lowell High School. He also attended Nebraska State College.
While in high school, he played semi-pro football for the Nashua (N.H.) Colts. He also played baseball with the Nashua Dodgers.
He served as a police officer with the University of Lowell, retiring in 1995.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton.
He enjoyed golf and was a past member of the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club in Rye.
He was inducted into the Lowell High School Hall of Fame in 1998.
Besides his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Thomas F. and his wife, Susan (Cote) Sheehan III, of Dover, and Ryan D. Sheehan of Hampton; two daughters, Kelly Ann and her husband, Shaun Livingston, of Chelmsford, Mass, and Kimberly and her husband, William Cross, of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, John Sheehan of Lowell, James and his wife, Susan (Coulter) Sheehan, of Kingston, N.H., and Robert and his wife Diane (Flaherty) Sheehan, of Lowell; two sisters, Sharon and her husband, William Witts, of Lowell, and Donna and her husband, Ronald Abisi, of Pelham, N.H.; five grandchildren, William Cross Jr., Patrick Cross, Meaghan Cross, Kaja Livingston, and Devon Livingston; and many nieces and nephews.
Marlene Latour
EPPING _ Marlene Latour, of Camp Lee Road, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at her home.
Born June 30, 1933, in Epping, she was the daughter of Harold and Elsie (Marsh) Morrison. A lifelong resident of Epping, she worked in several different shoe shops, the last of which was the Alrose Shoe Co.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, mostly out of Exeter.
She was the wife of the late Robert Latour, who died in 1987.
Survivors include four sons, Bruce and June Latour of Rochester, Robert and Laurel Latour, and Armand Latour, both of Epping, and Greg and Michele Latour of Somersworth; four daughters, Mrs. Sharon Mendum of Biloxi, Miss., Mrs. Diane Hayes of Centerville, Ga., Mrs. Natalie Lorimer of Montpelier, Vt., and Mrs. Mary Ross of Lee; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil Morrison of Lee, and Richard Morrison of Trenton, Maine; two sisters, Phyllis Dusablon of Portsmouth, and Myrtle Hurteau of Epping; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her companion of eight years, Alfred Hurteau of Epping.
Pearce E. Kennedy
PORTSMOUTH - Pearce E. Kennedy, 80, of 719 Greenland Road, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Delta, Pa., March 9, 1919, he was the son of William and Nora (Hess) Kennedy. He was a graduate of Bethany High School and received an associate's degree in business from Portsmouth Community College.
A retired master sergeant with the Air Force, he served his country for 27 years, including duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement from the Air Force, he continued to work full time as a security officer until his 80th birthday.
A resident of Portsmouth for the past 34 years, he was a member of the retired Air Force Sergeants Association, the American Association of Retired Persons, and an honorary member of the Boy Scouts of America.
He was the husband of Edeltraud (Stadler) Kennedy.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Bill Kennedy of Portsmouth, Nora Cayer of Greenland, John F. Kennedy of Portsmouth, Barbara Neslusan of Dover, and Ivalee Leonard of Greenland; four stepchildren, Gudrun Nash of Indianapolis, Gabriele Good of Needham, Mass., Peter Stanzel of Norwich, Vt., and Helen Kormendy of Aachen, Germany; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Hendrickson of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, George Kennedy of Monterey, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Thomas Sheehan
SHEEHAN - Thomas F. "Tiny" Sheehan Jr., of Hampton, formerly of Lowell, Mass., died July 1, 1999. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 81 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. Cremation to follow his Mass. Harry S. Kulp
KITTERY - Harry S. Kulp, 93, of 143 Rogers Road, Meeting House Village, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born June 25, 1906, in Souderton, Pa., he was the son of Issac and Katie (Swartley) Kulp.
Before retiring, he was employed for Rose Bros. in New York.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Quakertown, Pa., and the Rye Bethany Congregational Church in Rye. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity in Quakertown.
He was the husband of Alice (Nace) Kulp for 64 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Audrey Link and her husband, Jay, of Rye; a son, Harry R. Kulp and his wife, Margaret, of Glen Burnie, Md.; six grandchildren, Jay M. Link II of Newington, Kirby Link of Portsmouth, Marcie Duhon of Jacksonville, Fla., Tracey Kulp of Hurst, Texas, Denise Coats of Grapevine, Texas, and Philip Kulp of Crofton, Md.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cornelius S. Crowley
MANCHESTER - Cornelius Stephen Crowley, 95, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at Catholic Medical Center after a brief period of illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1903, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Cornelius and Ellen (Cronin) Crowley. He was a longtime resident of Portsmouth and was recently living in Fort Lauderdale. After retiring, he spent his time in Florida and North Conway, N.H.
After beginning work at age 16 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, he retired after 39 years as a personnel supervisor.
In Portsmouth, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. In Melbourne, Fla., he was chosen Man of the Year at Ascension Church, where he was an active volunteer. He was awarded the Order of St. Patrick at Maynooth College in Ireland for his extraordinary service to the church.
He was the husband of the late Ruth (Hargreaves) Crowley. They were married 67 years.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Crowley of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Frank Crowley of Bedford, N.H.; two daughters, Sharon Bryan of Palm Bay, Fla., and Sally Conlon of Pinehurst, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Billings and Agnes Crowley, both of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
James L. Fisk
ELIOT - James L. Fisk, of 11 Bolt Hill Road, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in his home after a period of illness.
Born in Portland, he was the son of Harold N. and Mildred (Sawyer) Fisk. He attended Portland public schools and was a graduate of Deering High School. He also attended Diesel Engineering School in Portland and Boston.
A major in the Air Force, he began his military career when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as an airplane and engine mechanic. He became an instructor in aircraft power plants at Chanute Field in Illinois. During World War II, he was a bombardier, flying 65 missions in B-25 Mitchell bombers over Italy and southern France. He was decorated with the Air Medal and the Soldiers Medal. After the war, he served in the Air Force in Alaska, California and Kansas, and retired from Pease Air Force Base.
For 23 years, he also worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a calibration engineer, retiring in 1983.
In Portsmouth, he attended Central Baptist Church for 30 years, where he served as chairman of the trustees for many years and drove the Sunday school bus. He and his wife served as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators for five years in England and Scotland.
He was the husband of Linda (Hilton) Fisk, for 25 years, and was predeceased by his first wife, Ella N. Fisk.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Norman J. Fisk of Amherst, N.H., and William N. Fisk of Litchfield, N.H.; two daughters, Jeanne L. Glick of Columbus, Pa., and Linda S. Tate of Litchfield; and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jo Fisk.
Andino J. Fabrizio
PORTSMOUTH - Andino J. Fabrizio, 86, of 4 Melbourne St., died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Sunrise Health Center.
Born Aug. 18, 1912, in Penne, Italy, he was the son of Louis and Juliette (Evangalista) Fabrizio. He immigrated to this country in 1915.
He established the A. Fabrizio Plumbing Co. in 1954, which he operated until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of St. James Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks.
He was the husband of Mary (DiPlacido) Fabrizio for 60 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Ralph Fabrizio and his wife Marie, of Portsmouth, and John Fabrizio and his wife Brenda, of Newmarket; six grandchildren, James Fabrizio, Leanne LaRose, Michael Fabrizio, Elizabeth Kramer, Richard Fabrizio and Joseph Fabrizio; and four great-grandchildren.
Margaret E. Patterson
PORTSMOUTH - Margaret E. Patterson, 78, of 34 Manor Drive, died Sunday, July 4, 1999.
Born July 31, 1920, in Mexico, Maine, she was the daughter of Walter and Florence (Farmer) Dower.
She worked in several shoe shops in Portsmouth. She retired from Diaphragm Industries in Portsmouth in 1985.
She was well-loved by her family and friends.
She was the wife of the late Carl P. Patterson.
Survivors include four daughters, Teddy and her husband Don Paradis, of Exeter, Judy and her husband John Heffernan, of Greenland, Pat and her husband Bob Parrent, of Salem, Ore., and Buzzy Patterson of Portsmouth; one son, Carl P. Patterson Jr., of California; a grandson, John Patterson and his wife Karen, of Quincy, Mass.; seven other grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Reggie Patterson, of Waterville, Maine.
