Robert F. Glancy Sr.
DOVER - Robert F. Glancy Sr., 71, of Crescent Avenue, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
Born Nov. 12, 1927, in Clinton, Mass, he was the son of the late John and Blanche (Martineau) Glancy.
He graduated from Deerfield Academy with the Class of 1945. He attended Wesleylan College and graduated from the University of Maryland.
A star football player, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but chose to follow a military career instead.
He served 27 years in the Marine Corps, retiring with rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in Korea, Vietnam, Okinawa, and in the Mediterranean.
During the Cuban Crisis he was on the staff of the war room. He was the first officer to enter Hanoi to supervise the return of the prisoners of war.
He earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Subsequently he joined the N.H. Department of Health and Human Services, retiring as a regional administrator after 20 years' service.
He was the husband of Wanda G. (Miles) Tarr-Glancy of Dover.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Robert F. Glancy Jr. of Kittery, Maine, Christopher M. Glancy of Edgecomb, Maine, James G. Glancy of Berwick, Maine, Douglass S. Tarr of Dover, and Daniel I. Tarr of Colorado; also Patricia A. Trimble of Cape Neddick, Maine; and six grandchildren.
Earle Fox
PORTSMOUTH - Earle Fox, 86, of 928 South St., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born Feb. 2, 1913, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Michael and Bertha (Goose) Fox.
He was the founder of Glazer and Fox Hardware in Portsmouth, which he operated from 1938 to 1988.
He was a member and past president of Temple Israel in Portsmouth, and was involved in the building of the new addition to the temple. He was past president of the Brotherhood of the Temple, and was a founding member of B'nai Brith. He was also a member of St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F & AM in Portsmouth; the Scottish Rite Bodies Vallies of Portsmouth and Dover; N.H. Consistory 32nd degree of Nashua; Bektash Temple of Concord; Knights of Pythias; Portsmouth Kiwanis; and a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 97 of Portsmouth. He was also past president of the Portsmouth Shrine Club. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club.
He was the husband of the late Miriam (Glaser) Fox, to whom he had been married for 60 years.
Survivors include three sons, Bruce S. Fox and his wife, Janet, of Portsmouth; Stuart S. Fox and his wife, Elaine, of Indianapolis; and Kenneth S. Fox and his wife, Adele, of Rye; eight grandchildren, Michael, Peter, Marni, Daniel, Bart, Matthew, Elizabeth and Aimee; four great-grandchildren, Jori, Jane, Jason and Mark; a sister, Charlotte Berlow of Aventura, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Chadakowitz, and a brother, Samuel Fox.
Carolyn A. Pike
LAKELAND, Fla. - Carolyn A. Pike, 63, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at her home after a long period of illness.
She was born April 14, 1936, in Eliot, Maine.
She worked in real estate, sales, and most recently as a private duty home health aid.
She traveled often during her life; in 1988, she moved to Lakeland. She was a Protestant.
Survivors include three daughters, Susann L. Larrabee of Cincinnati; Bonnie J. Pike of Lakeland; and Belinda S. Cain of Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Wayne Larrabee.
Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be private.
The family expresses gratitude to all who helped during her illness.
Viola Hoyt
PORTSMOUTH - Viola (Hodgkinson) Hoyt, 85, of 263 Rockland St., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1913, in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late John and Jane (McConnell) Hodgkinson.
She was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth. She was a foster parent at the Great Bay School and Training Center and had been a member of the Friends Program of Portsmouth for 20 years.
Survivors include a son, Gordon C. Hoyt Jr. of Burrillville, R.I.; two daughters, Mary S. Blanchette of Portsmouth, and Jean Mellor of Cranston, R.I.; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, John Hodgkinson of North Scituate, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.
John P. Poor
KENDUSKEAG, Maine - John Phillip Poor, 74, of Kenduskeag, died Friday, August 6, 1999, at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 2, 1925, in Boston, he was the son of Clarence and Maude Poor.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific as an aerial photographer. He became a licensed pilot and flight instructor; working out of the White Mountain Airport in North Conway, N.H., and Dewitt Airfield in Old Town. Maine. He then worked as a news reporter for WLBZ Channel 2 in Bangor, Maine before taking a position as assistant to the general manager at WABI Channel 5 in Bangor. He was director of the Meals for ME program in Bangor for many years. He retired in 1989 from the public relations department of Eastern Transportation.
His lifelong love was photography, which he pursued professionally as "The Photographer." He worked out of his home, taking thousands of portraits, wedding photos and scenic pictures. He won many blue ribbons at the Bangor Fair. He also shared his love of photography with others as a photographic instructor at the YWCA in Bangor, the adult education center in Bucksport, Maine, and the University of Maine. His other interests included collecting old bottles, gardening, and HO railroading.
He was the husband of Alice (Haley) Poor for 45 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Christina Poor and David Ferrelli of Portsmouth, and Ann and Michael Kenny of Veazie, Maine; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Denise Poor of East Corinth, Maine; three grandchildren, Eric Ross of Bangor, Deidre Poor of East Corinth, and Bradly Kenny of Veazie; and many friends.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Wright; and a daughter, Katherine Poor.
Margaret M. Stone
ELIOT - Margaret Mary Stone, 76, of 7 Heather Road, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the Harbor Home in York after a long period of failing health.
Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of James and Anna (McKeough) Fitzpatrick. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Somerville with the Class of 1941.
For the past 23 years she was a resident of the Seacoast area. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portsmouth.
She was the wife of James Patrick Stone for 56 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Brian Patrick Stone of Eliot, and Paul J. Stone of Suffield, Conn.; six grandchildren, Gregory, Jennifer, Deborah, Matthew, Christopher, and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Patience and Thomas; and one sister, Claire Gauthier of Andover, Mass.
She was predeceased by a son, James Stone.
Earle Fox
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Earle Fox, 86, of 928 South St., were held on Sunday from Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth with services at Temple Israel. Rabbi Ira Korinow of Temple Emanuel in Haverhill, Mass., officiated.
In attendance were members of Temple Israel, including Brotherhood of Temple, Sister of Temple, and B'nai Brith. Also in attendance were members of St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Shrine Club, Portsmouth Kiwanis, Portsmouth Country Club, and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 97 of Portsmouth.
Burial was in Temple Israel Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by Rabbi Korinow.
Bearers were Bruce S. Fox, Stuart S. Fox, Kenneth S. Fox, Daniel Fox, Michael Fox, Peter Fox and Matthew Fox.
Eugene Sullivan
SULLIVAN - Eugene R. Sullivan of Wakefield, Mass., died Aug. 6, 1999. He was the husband of the late Anne T. (McGrath) Sullivan; father of Richard E. Sullivan of Newington, James D. Sullivan of Wakefield, Anne Claire Alsmeyer of Newton, Mass., and Noreen M. Wright of Newington; grandfather of Kathryn Rose Sullivan. Funeral at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Margaret M. Stone
ELIOT - Margaret Mary Stone, 76, of 7 Heather Road, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the Harbor Home in York after a long period of failing health.

James H. Miller
ORLANDO, Fla. - James H. Miller, 73, of Wavecrest Dr., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999.
Born in 1926 in Oswego, N.Y., he was a retired chief petty officer in the Navy and a veteran of World War II and Korea.
After 28 years in the Navy, he retired to Portsmouth in 1972. In 1979, he moved to Orlando, where he was active in the Knights of Columbus Council 3rd Degree and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Monsignor Bishop Assembly for over 20 years.
He did volunteer work with the American Lung Association, Parent Resource Center and the RSVP. He was also an active member of the Blessed Trinity Church and the Blessed Trinity Men's Club.
He was the husband of Catherine Miller.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, James Miller of Stratham, and Mark Miller of Antioch, Calif.; a daughter, Gale Miller-Wendell of Kensington; and seven grandchildren.
Elizabeth J. Searles
CABOT, Vt. - Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Gammon) Searles, 51, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, in her home.
Born Jan. 23, 1948, in North Adams, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Warren V. and Mary A. (Pearson) Tower. She was a resident of Kittery, Maine, and Eliot, Maine, for 32 years.
She was the wife of Donovan Searles of Cabot for two years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Jackie Carpentier of Eugene, Ore.; and Deborah Millett of Gardiner, Maine; three brothers, Ralph, Roger, and Vern Tower, all of North Adams; a sister, Rose Rand of Washington state; and a granddaughter, Suzanne Burns of Kittery.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Richard Tower.
Robert J. McCullough Sr.
YORK BEACH - Robert J. McCullough Sr., 70, of 43 Shelton Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a lengthy period of illness.
Born Nov. 2, 1928 in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of James Francis and Blanche (Houle) McCullough. He was a 1947 graduate of South High School, Worcester.
During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was a graduate of Fitchburg State College, receiving a bachelor's degree in education in 1951 and a master's degree in education in 1953.
He was a schoolteacher for 38 years. For 22 years, he taught mechanical drawing at Burncoat Junior High School in Worcester. He retired and moved to York Beach in 1987.
He enjoyed maintaining his home, gardening and traveling.
A volunteer at the York Food Pantry for six years, he also was a member of the American Legion Post 341 of Worcester, the AARP, the Disabled American Veterans, the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and the Knights of Columbus.
He was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York.
He was the husband of Ann (Hare) McCullough.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Robert J. McCullough Jr. of Southbridge, Mass., and Sean P. McCullough of Marlborough, Mass.; three daughters, Jane M. Thomson of Kennebunk, Ann M. Saltzman of York, and Marianne McCullough of Northborough, Mass.; two brothers, James McCullough of Worcester and Philip McCullough of Massena, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas, who died in 1996.
Ben A. Gagne
BERWICK - Ben A. Gagne, 46, of 12 Wendy Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999 in a drowning accident.
Born in Dover, he was the son of Clement J. and Edna Gagne. He was a 1972 graduate of Marshwood High School in Eliot.
He was employed as a welder in shop No. 26 of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He had previously coached baseball and soccer in Eliot for many years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, camping and fishing.
He was the husband of Debbie (Trueman) Gagne for 25 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Robert A. Gagne of Kittery and Stephen M. Gagne of Berwick; a daughter, Alina M. Gagne of Lebanon; two sisters, Elsie Howe of Rochester, and Carol Melton of Lucasville, Ohio; a grandson, Chevy A. Prescott; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
