Noreen Foley

PORTSMOUTH - Noreen Foley, 84, of 777 Middle Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at her home after a sudden illness.

Born Sept. 27, 1915, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Timothy and Katherine (Sullivan) Foley.

She was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, and graduated from Portsmouth High School.

For many years, she was employed as a sales associate at the former Kimball's Department Store.

She was a life member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Survivors include her brother, Lawrence P. Foley of Portsmouth, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Rafferty, and two brothers, John Foley and Timothy Foley.

Louis P. McKenna

PORTSMOUTH - Louis Paul McKenna, 84, of 188 Lincoln Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Sunbridge Nursing Home after several years of failing health.

Born April 5, 1915, in Dover, he was the son of John and Honor (Axworthy) McKenna.

He was a 1933 graduate of Dover High School, where he was a standout football player.

He also did a great deal of boxing in his youth and was a member of Ring 38 in Dover.

He was employed for many years with the Water Department for the city of Portsmouth, retiring in 1971.

A resident of Portsmouth for the past 59 years, he was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Knights of Columbus Council No. 140, and St. Mary's Assembly Fourth Degree.

He was the husband of Eunice (Watkins) McKenna for 59 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Paul McKenna and his wife, Susan, of Dover; two grandchildren, Timothy and Theresa; three sisters, Esther Gage, Mary Bickford and Margaret Arsenault, all of Dover; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George and John McKenna, and two sisters, Ethel Howard and Grace O'Brien.

Curtis D. Marston

NORTH HAMPTON - Curtis D. Marston, 84, a resident of Exeter Healthcare since 1997 and longtime North Hampton resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999.

Born April 23, 1914, in North Hampton, he was the son of the late Harry and Mable (Dearborn) Marston.

He was a 1933 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in supply and ordinance, retiring in 1969.

He was also employed as a groundskeeper at the Sagamore Golf Club from 1967 until 1979, and later worked at his son's business, Northeast Cartage.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, a longtime member of the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, joining in 1937, and held the position of chief from 1958-1967.

He was also instrumental in helping set up the mutual aid system with the Fire Department.

He loved animals, enjoyed farming, camping and gardening.

He was the husband of the late Louise (Webb) Marston, who died in August.

Survivors include two sons, Alan C. Marston and his wife, Elizabeth, of Newmarket; Paul S. Marston and his wife, Mary Lou, of North Hampton; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one cousin; one niece; and one nephew.

Evelyn Chase

YORK - Evelyn M. Chase, 89, of 20 Moulton Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at her home.

Born April 30, 1910, in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of Benjamin C. and Minnie F. (Furbush) Morrison.

She was a graduate of New England Deaconess School of Nursing and became employed as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital, retiring in 1979.

She then did private nursing for Dr. Waite and Dr. Magocsi and started the York School Nursing Program.

She was a member of New England Nursing Association and a member of the Eliot Flower Club.

She was the wife of Harold Chase of York.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Alan B. Chase of Huntingtown, Md.; a daughter, Diane E. Joslyn of Acton, Maine; and two grandchildren.

Joan H. Taylor

YORK - Joan H. Taylor, 63, a resident of U.S. Route 1, and a former longtime resident of Ogunquit, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at York Hospital after a brief period of illness.

Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Livermore Falls, Maine, she was the daughter of Darrah M. and Pauline E. Garnett Pomeroy.

She attended Kents Hill School in Readfield and Baypath College, and also attended Southern Maine Technical College for its culinary arts program.

A longtime resident of Ogunquit, she took on many activities in the Wells-Ogunquit communities, including teaching swimming with the Wells Recreation Department. Most recently, she was nominated to join the Peace Corps and completed all the tests except the physical, which she could not pass because of her declining health.

She was very proud of all her accomplishments, including her children and family, reaching goals she set for herself, and was thankful for her friends who helped her through the tough times.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Dr. Ward E. and Pauline Pomeroy Quilter of Sun City Center, Fla.; a son, Jon Taylor of Dover; a daughter, Samantha Taylor of North Berwick; a stepbrother, Ward E. Quilter Jr. of Groton, Conn.; and a grandaughter, Savannah Taylor of North Berwick.

Marie A. Daneault

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Marie A. (Ouellette) Daneault, 96, of 22 Tuck Road, Hampton, and formerly of Portsmouth and Edgewater, Fla., were held from Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Wednesday with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception in Portsmouth.

The Rev. Edward J. Kelley, pastor, was celebrant.

Organist was Marion Arnoldy and Jennifer Sanders was cantor.

In attendance were communicants of Immaculate Conception Church.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Kelley.

Bearers were Rick LaBerge, Alan LaBerge, Tom LaBerge, Mark McKenna, Jason Daneault and Christopher McKenna.

Wake services were held at Buckminster Chapel Tuesday evening by the Rev. Kelley.

Robert E. Seward

YOUNGSTOWN, Fla. - Robert E. Seward, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, in a Youngstown nursing home.

Born Aug. 17, 1928, in Kittery, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mable Seward.

He was raised in Exeter and had resided in Florida the past four years.

For 20 years, he was employed by Kingston-Warren Corp. in Newfields.

He was a member of the Passaconaway Council No. 73, Agamenticus, Maine, and was an avid CB operator using the name Running Bear.

Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Adams and Annie Whaley, both of Kittery; three brothers, Floyd Seward of Kittery Point and Albert Seward and George Seward of Eliot; his former wife, Cynthia Seward of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.
