Mrs. Schultz, age 73 years, passed away February 6, 1999 at her home. She was born in Senith, MO on October 22, 1925 to the late William and Jossie (Scott) Bone. She married Harry I. Schultz and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1988. She retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, where she worked as a dietician. She is survived by three children: Larry (Lois) Young of Flint, William Schultz of Atlanta and Kevin (Bobbie) Schultz of Bay City; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen V. Shears in 1987. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Penzien & Steele Funeral Home. Interment will be in Wilbur Twp. Cemetery. Jean Clement "Butch" Luczak, age 73 years, died at his home Monday morning, February 8, 1999. He was born to Clement J. and Leona M. (Jean) Luczak on December 13, 1925 in Bay City. Butch grew up in the Banks area of Bay City and resided in Essexville most of his married life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving our country during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Before his retirement in 1987, he was employed with the City of Essexville for thirteen years. Butch was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Essexville, Knights of Columbus Fr. VanRooy Council #2740, V.F.W. Post #7053, American Legion Post #18 and was a volunteer at Garber High School as the "popcornman." On June 26, 1948, he married Mary Rose Finn, and she survives him, along with eleven children: Kathleen Dreyer of Essexville, Vincent (Linda) Luczak of Apple Valley, MN, James (Dolores) Luczak of Trenary, Rose Ann (James) Gingrich of Flushing, Michelle (Arthur) Windt of Essexville, Maureen (Mark) Collier of Pinconning, Susan (Donald) Horner of Essexville, Theresa (Robert) Hatfield of Bay City, Bridget (Steven) Jablonski of Essexville, Dr. Richard Luczak of Euless, Michigan
Leo F. Cianek, age 72 years, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 1999 in Bay Medical Center. He was born in Hampton Township on March 15, 1926. Leo was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving our country during WWII. Before his retirement in 1986, he was employed with GMC's Bay City Plant for twenty-seven and a half years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and the U.A.W. Local #362 Retirees, and loved fishing and woodworking. On May 21, 1960, Leo married Sally Reittenbach in Bridgeport, MI and she survives him, along with a daughter, Kim Mateos and son-in-law, David, and two grandchildren, Alexandrina Jo and Andrew David of Essexville; three brothers and two sisters, Raymond Cianek of Essexville, Harry Cianek of Bay City, Ted (Donna) Cianek of Burt, Genevieve (Stanley) Matuzek of Collingwood, and Julie Jozwiak of Saginaw; a sister-in-law, Harriet Cianek; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Barney, Joseph, and Adolph Cianek. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, February 12, 1999 at 10:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Leo will lie in state in church Friday after 9:00 AM. Rev. Barney Janowicz will preside and intermenty will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Stanislaus Development Fund. Members of St. Stanislaus Parish will pray the rosary Thursday at 2:00 PM in the funeral chapel. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 PM; Thursday from 2:00 to 8:30 PM, with the Vigil Wake Service Thursday at 7:30 PM in the W.A. Trahan Funeral Chapel. W. A. God took home our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Loretta M. Jonkis, age 76. She left peacefully from her home on Monday, February 8, 1999 following a battle with cancer. She was born November 4, 1922 to Walter and Loretta (Stoddard) Stepanski. Loretta is survived by her husband, Robert Jonkis of Bay City; five children: Catherine (Jonkis) and David Wakefield of Houghton Lake, Bridget Jonkis of Prudenville, Andrew Jonkis of Higgins Lake, Molly Jonkis of Bay City and Philip Jonkis of Higgins Lake; two grandchildren: Travis and Kylea Wakefield of Houghton Lake; a sister, Leota (Frank) Haslip; three brothers: Walter (Maxine) Stepanski, Harvey (Laura) Stepanski and Vaughn (Marge) Stepanski. She was preceded in death by both her parents and a brother, Harold (Ethel) Stepanski. A Memorial Mass for a world class cookie maker will be held Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph Church. A celebratory luncheon will immediately follow at the Village Hall. Mrs. Leck died Monday evening, February 8, 1999 at the Bay Shores Nursing Home, age 94 years. Daughter of the late John and Phoebe (Oliver) Conklin was born February 25, 1904 in Rochester, New York. She married Cal E. Fowler who predeceased her in 1954. She then married Bernard Leck. He predeceased her in 1982. Mrs. Leck worked at Merit Shoe Store as a bookkeeper and a cashier before retiring. She was a member of the Eastern Stars. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: William (Nancy) Fowler, Trenton, MI, John "Bruce" Fowler and Carol Perriman, both of Bay City; 17 grandchildren; and 45 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Fowler and a son-in-law, Raymond Perriman. Funeral and Committal Service will take place Friday, February 12, 1999 at 10 A.M. from Squires Funeral Home. Mrs. Leck's grandson, Rev. John B. Fowler, will officiate with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and on Friday after 9 A.M. Squires Funeral Home 211 N. Henry St.
