Steyer, Peter P. Sr. (Pete)

Pete left to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, February 10, 1999 at his home with his family at his side. Age 81 years. The son of the late Casper and Clara (Freihaut) Steyer was born March 25, 1917 in Munger Michigan living in Bay County all of his life. He was married to the former Ruth Ann Krauss in Bay City on June 25, 1949, she survives him. They would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this coming June. Mr. Steyer retired form the Prestolite Corp. in 1981 after 34 years of service where he was the Safety Director and Union Steward. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, the U.A.W. Retirees C.A.P. Council and National Council of Senior Citizens. Surviving besides his wife Ruth Ann, he leaves his children and their spouses: Ruth and David Justa and their son Jonathan; Peter and Sharon Steyer, Jr. and their daughters Amanda and Shannon; James and Leslie Steyer and their daughters Stephanie and Kristin all of Bay City; Gloria Nelson of Columbus, IN and her children and grandchildren: Pam (Brent) Overfelt, Michael Nelson, Marsha Bennett and her son Kyle;Tom (Pam) Nelson and their daughter Brittany. He was predeceased by two brothers: Casper and John Steyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday, February 13, 1999 at Holy Trinity Church by Rev. Fr. Michael G. Dunckel with entombment in Floral Gardens Mausoleum. A Parish Wake Service will take place at 7:30 P.M. Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Bay Area. Mr. Smith passed away Thursday afternoon, February 11, 1999 at his home. Age 90 years. The son of the late Charles and Sarah (Vaughn) Smith, Chester was born in Bay City on November 24, 1908. Chester was also the grandson of Edward J. Smith, Captain of the S.S. Titanic. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and F.O.E. Aerie #1010. Chester was a baker at various Bay City bakeries, retiring in 1989. Chester is survived by his wife, Marguerite M. (Debo) Smith of Bay City; seven step-children: Leo and Sue Manor of New Braunfels, TX, Jeanette Huntley of Alger, MI, Bob and Ruth Manor of Superior, WI, Elaine Manor of Midland, Rose Ann and Alvin Gauthier of Bay City, Thomas Manor of Bay City and Thomas Wooderson of Bay City; several step- grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren. Chester was predeceased by a stepson, Melvin Manor. The Funeral Liturgy will take place Monday, February 15, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James F. Gavit will officiate. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will be present at the church to receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until time of services. Mrs. Tippman, died early Friday morning, February 12, 1999 at Covenant Health Care (Cooper), age 74 years. Daughter of the late William and Rosalie (LaPan) Dore, was born October19, 1924 in Kawkawlin and has lived here most of her life. She married Merlin Tippman, April 19, 1947 in St. Joseph Church. He predeceased her in December of 1979. Mrs. Tippman worked for the Bay City Public Schools before retiring. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Altar Society, League of Catholic Women and Men, Daughters of Isabella, K of C Ladies Auxiliary #414, Amvets and was a volunteer at Bay Medical Center. Surviving are eight children: Joyce Tippman-Bailey, John (Marilyn) Tippman, Robert Tippman, Ruth (Thomas) Lich, Thomas (Bonnie) Tippman, Timothy (Cynthia) Tippman, Edward Tippman, Paul (Diana) Tippman; fifteen grandchildren: Kenneth E. Bailey Jr.; Brad and Jeffery Lich; Daniel, David, Adam, Catherine, Keith, Kirk, Meredith, Jack, Mary, Joseph, Zachary and Emily Tippman; one sister and six brothers: Therese M.LaLonde, Robert (Elizabeth) Dore, William (Lamoyne) Dore Jr., Daniel (Gayle) Dore, John Dore, Francis (Theresa) Dore, Paul (Terri) Dore; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Tippman. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 15, 1999 at 11:00 from St. Mary's Church by Rev. Fr. James G. She was born July 28, 1930 in Alma, Michigan and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy P. Gerhauser; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Barbara J. and Delmus Sheet of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Beverly A. and Ronald Rider of Bay City and Marilyn K. Mr. McNeal, age 65 passed away Thursday, February 11, 1999 at Brian's House with his family at his side following a brief illness. He was born in Newberry on March 13, 1933, to the late Thomas and Icie Mae (Rice) McNeal. John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and ownwer/ operator of Arcadian Service. Mrs. Scheddel passed away suddenly Friday February 12, 1999 at Bay Medical Center, age 90 years. She was born March 25, 1908 in Bay City and has resided here all of her life. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, retired in 1972 from the Bay Arenac Intermediate School District as a financial secretary. Mrs Scheddel enjoyed traveling and was a member of many bridge clubs.
