Mr. Holmes, age 87 years, passed away February 15, 1999 at Autumnwood of McBain, MI. He was born in Bay City on December 8, 1911 to the late Palmer D. and May I. (Wanless) Holmes. Mr. Holmes led a full life and was prominent in many aspects of his community. He was a former member of the Bay City Central High "Letterman's Club", a life member of the old Bay County Conservation and Gun Club, a member of the International Fire Buffs Club, Chief of the Box 65 Club of the Bay City Fire Department, and served two terms as chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Bay City Fire Department. Mr. Holmes was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Bay City, served as an Elder, and was President of its Men's Club. He was a long-time member of the Bay City Kiwanis and served on its Board of Directors, was a member and served on the Board of Directors for the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club and was a member of the Saginaw Bay Power Squadron. Mr. Holmes also served 28 years on the Board of Trustees for the Bay Osteopathic Hospital, was on the Essexville Planning Committee, was secretary of the Essexville-Hampton Chamber of Commerce and was Membership Development Director for the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Holmes was a graduate of the University of Michigan, was a charter member of its alumni fund and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He served in various positions for the United Way of Bay County and the Bay County Fund Drive. In 1974, he was awarded the "Good Citizen Award" from the Bay County Firefighters Association. Mr. Holmes is a Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Bay City Lodge No. 88, and a Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks. Also active in the Masonic Order, Mr. Holmes was a member of Wenona Lodge No. 256 F&AM, The Scottish Rite Bodies-Valley of Bay City, The Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple and the Bay Area Shrine Club. Mr. Holmes worked for 42 years for Consumers Power Co. (now Consumers Energy), Bay City Division, as Controller and later Urban Manager for Bay City before retiring in 1975. He was married to the former Mildred Grace Woodman for 45 years. She predeceased him in 1977. In 1978 he married the former Geraldine M. Kollinger Larsen. She predeceased him in 1989. In 1989, he married the former Janith MacGregor Milster. He is survived by his wife, Janith; his son, G. Robert Holmes (and wife Kristine) of Manton, MI; three step-daughers, Mrs. Janet (Jack) List of Idlewild, CA, Mrs. Jean (Larry) Linnard, of Clifton Park, NY, Mrs. Christine (David) Mills of Jacksonville, FL; a grandson, Jon Holmes; five step- grandchildren: Thomas Linnard, Mike Linnard, Nancy Biskup, Debbie Azuaje and Marlo Aragon as well as 2 step great- grandchildren. Funeral and Committal Services will be on Friday at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Jeffrey D. Weenink will officiate. Entombment will be in Floral Gardens Mausoleum. Mr. Maida, age 84, passed away Monday, February 15, 1999 at Golden Ages Adult Foster Care following a brief illness. He was born to Jacob and Agnes (Wielgas) Maida on February 2, 1915 and resided in Bay County most of his life. He was retired from Northern Tube and was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and Pinconning K of C's. He married the former Lottie Belchak in 1940, she preceded him in death in 1973. He is survived by a son, David Maida of Chandler, AZ; four daughters: Joan and Allen Gunn of Grindstone City, Rose Ann and Edwin Pingot of Pinconning, Delores and Bruce Gale of Saginaw and Shirley and Jack Dedrickson of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; two step grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Also two brothers, Walter and Jenny Maida of Dearborn Heights and Peter and Gloria Maida of Linwood; one sister, Caroline Tomczyk of Novi; a brother-in-law, Steve Flowers of Dearborn; a sister-in-law, Stella Maida of Bay City; one son-in-law, Robert Grzegorczyk of Beaverton. He was predeceased by three brothers: Edward, Frank and Andrew Maida and two sisters, Helen Ziecienna and Stella Flowers. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday, February 18, 1999 at 11 A.M. from St. Mary's Church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Miller presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Tardiff, age 97 years, passed away February 15, 1999 at Frankenmuth Convalescent Center. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on October 30, 1901 to the late Albert and and Carrie (Baker) Hudson. On August 6, 1921 she married George Tardiff in Bay City and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1972. Mrs. Tardiff was a member of Fremont Avenue United Methodist Church. Survivors include 3 nephews: Craig Page , Patrick (Rick) Page and Harry (Rocky) Page, all of Bay City; 3 nieces: Marjorie Sweeney of Kalamazoo, Nancy McLellan of Freeland and Ellen Burch of Prescott; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Page of Bay City and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Milo, Pat and Richard Page as well as a nephew, David Page. A special thanks is given to Patrick and Sharon Page for all the wonderful things they did for Alberta. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled. Irene E. Burzynski, age 73 years, passed away suddenly Monday, February 15, 1999 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She spent a gallant seventeen years adjusting to a physical handicap and was an example of independence and determination. Her life evolved around her joy for her children and their spouses, grandchildren and special friends. Irene was born on July 24, 1925 to Andrew and Mary Puralewski. She married Eugene (Gene/Bush) Burzynski on June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1980. Her son, Ken (Cherri) Burzynski and daughter, Joan (Al) Holderied survive her, as well as her precious grandchildren, Kent and Ashley Burzynski. Special recognition and acknowledgement is given to her niece, Mary Kowalski, who helped Irene for many years. Irene had been a successful caterer most of her adult life until 1982. Her pride in baking and her excellent food preparation was very important to her. Irene loved to tell jokes, play cards, and go to bingo and the casino. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and its Rosary-Altar Sodalilty, Felician Sisters Auxiliary, League of Catholic Women and Men, and U.A.W. Local #362 Retirees. Also surviving are her brother and sisters, Stanley (Rita) Puralewski, Esther Zielinski and Terrie Piotrowski. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by her parents, and siblings, Ceil Sporman, Effrem (Eff) and Hugo Puralewski. Following her wishes, cremation will take place and intermenty of her cremains will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Visitation with her family will be Thursday, February 18, 1999 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the Vigil Wake Service Thursday at 7:30 P.M. in the funeral chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 19, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, where relatives and friends can gather Friday after 9:00 A.M. Members of St. Stan's Rosary-Altar Sodality and Felician Sisters Auxiliary will pray the rosary Friday at 9:30 A.M. in church. Ruby L. Czowski, age 84 years, died Monday, February 15, 1999 in Covenant Medical Center/Harrison, Saginaw. She was born to John and Ruby (Horton) Miller on June 14, 1914 in Atlanta, GA and resided in Bay City most of her life. Ruby was previously employed with St. Luke's Hospital, Saginaw for twenty years, and also General Hospital in Bay City. She was a member of St. James Parish and the Saginaw Senior Citizens Club. Ruby was married to Edward Czowski and he preceded her in death in 1981. Surviving family members include two daughters and two sons, Kathy (Mike) Kalinowski, Carolyn (Ray) Biskner, Gene (Sheryl) Czowski and Leon Czowski, all of Bay City; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Janowiak, age 83 years, passed away February 17, 1999 at Bay Medical Center. She was born in Waters, MI on October 1, 1915 to the late Joseph and Elin Anderson. She married Edwin Janowiak and he preceded her in death in 1964. Mrs. Janowiak was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and had been the secretary at the Salvation Army as well as a member of their Board of Directors. Survivors include a son, John Janowiak of Sterling Heights, MI; two sisters: Pauline (Eugene) Secor of Bay City and Ruth Johnson of Lansing, MI; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Anderson. Funeral and Committal Services will be on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church. Rev. Andreas H. Teich will officiate. Mrs. Staudacher passed away early Tuesday evening, February 16, 1999 at Bay Shores Nursing Home, age 82 years. She was born December 12, 1916 in Bay City and has resided here all of her life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Marie was a sales person and assistant bookkeeper for many years at Herman-Hiss Jewelry Store. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Staudacher of Bay City; two daughters: Joy M. Kusmierz of Essexville, MI, and Mary Ann (George) Safranek of Frankenmuth, MI; one grandson, Noah Whittaker; six step- grandchildren: Cheryl (Jonathan) Scharrer, Dawn (Loren) Dockins, Ken Kusmierz, Dan (Kari) Kusmierz, Karen (David) Rood, Joe (Sherry) Kusmierz, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents: Michael and Mary Foerster; one son-in-law, Raymond Kusmierz; and three sisters: Viola Becker, Esther Stroemer, and Florence Leiner. Funeral and Committal Services will take place Friday, February 19, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. William H. Allwardt and Rev. Mark A.
