Joseph E. Kababik, age 80 years, died Thursday, May 6, 1999 at his residence. He was born to John and Mary (Belko) Kababik on February 6, 1919 in New York City, NY and resided in Bay County most of his life. Joseph retired from Dow Chemical Company after many years of service. He was a member of St. Hedwig Church, the Kiesel's Pearls and was a former member of its Ushers Club. Joseph proudly served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a former member of the Elks Lodge #88 in Bay City. During WWII while shipboard, Joseph met his wife, the former Ewalda C. Samolaske, and she preceded him in death on July 9, 1987. Surviving family members include two sons: John F. (Lynette) Kababik of White Lake and Joseph E. Kababik of Cass City; two daughters: Mary B. Kababik of Milwaukee, WI and Regina M. (James) Datte of Farmington Hills; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his brother, Frank (Jane) Kababik of Vermont; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, May 10, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Hedwig Church. Joseph will lie in state in church Monday after 9:00 A.M. Rev. Richard M. Filary will preside and entombment will follow in St. Patrick Mausoleum with Military Rites by the Bay County Veterans Council. Members of Kiesel's Pearls will pray the Rosary Sunday at 2:00 P.M. and the Vigil Wake Service will be Sunday at 7:30 P.M. both in the Trahan Chapel. Raymond M. Pitt Sr., age 68 of Lake, MI died on Thursday, May 6, 1999 at his home. Raymond was born January 23, 1931 in Bay County, the son of Michael and Anna (Gerulski) Pitt. He was united in marriage to Wilma Holtzapple. She preceded him in death. He was then united in marriage to Alta Springberg on December 16, 1995. Raymond was a member of the Lake Eagles Aries #3761, National Rifle Association and the Steel Workers. Raymond is survived by his wife, Alta; five children: Valarie and Ed Hawley of Lake, MI, Sandra and Donald Bush of Pinconning and Raymond and Vicki Pitt Jr., Bryon Pitt and Pamela and Thomas Whitefoot, all of Lake, MI; one stepson, Kevin Springberg of Grand Rapids; sisters and brothers: Marilyn and Jerry Haley of Jackson, Richard and Maureen Pitt of Auburn, Sharon and Roger Keit of Hemlock and Deborah and Conrad Hanczewski of Prudenville; eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild and one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends. Our loving wife, mother and grandmother died Friday morning, May 7, 1999 at Bay Medical Center in Bay City after a lengthy illness, age 78 years. Vivian J. Burdick was born February 7, 1921 in Bay City and lived in this area most of her life. Vivian loved bowling, golfing and plants. On March 25, 1939 she married Floyd E. Anderson, he survives her. Also surviving are six children: Sharon (Bill) Kiehl of Bad Axe, Dennis (Linda) Anderson of Bay City, Phyllis K. Anderson and Al Gloden of Kawkawlin, Penny (Don) Rueger of Auburn, Scott (Kim) Anderson of Hemlock, Doug (Gail) Anderson of Bay City; 20 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; one special niece, Dolores Hubert; and numerous nephews and nieces. Walter C. Gromak, age 64 of Auburn, our very dear and beloved husband, father and grandfather, was called home to rest in eternal peace with our Lord Thursday, May 6, 1999. The son of Mary (Brzynkiewcz) Gromak and the late Casimir Gromak was born August 11, 1934 in Hamtramck, MI. He married Wilma M. (Wisenbaugh) Gromak on April 7, 1956 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served in the USAF for four years, then worked for General Aero-Dynamics in California for four years before returning to Michigan in 1964 where he worked for Wilson Machine (Lucas) of Saginaw for 30 years as a project engineer, retiring in 1995. He was a devout member of St. Valentine's Catholic Church in Beaver. Walt is survived by his wife of 43 years, Wilma M. Gromak; two daughters and one son: Denise Wisniewski of Midland, Stephen Gromak of Freeland and Theresa and Randy Wright of Flint; five grandchildren: Laurie and David Wisniewski, Anthony Gromak and twins, Marshall and Paul Ker; his mother, Mary Gromak of Saginaw; two brothers and one sister: Dennis Gromak, Casimir and Carol Gromak Jr., both of Saginaw, RoseAnn (Gromak) Pickett of Grand Rapids. He was Polish and proud. He loved Polish music and his favorite dance was the Oberek. He enjoyed flying model airplanes and bowling, but his ultimate joy in life was his family. A man whose heart was his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Thanks, Dad. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Mr. Simons, age 67, passed away Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Convent- Harrison following a lingering illness. He was born in Bay City on January 3, 1932 to the late Arthur E. and Marion N. (McCreery) Simons. Art was a lifelong resident of Bay City, attending Visitation School and Church, graduated from St. Joseph High School and three years of college. He went into business with his father at the Simons Roofing & Siding Co. of Bay City in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Custer, Grand Rapids, MI, Camp Gordon, Augusta, GA, Fort Namouth, NJ, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. in the 94 25th Technical Services Unit to the White House. Also, Fort Mead and Raven Rock in the Plant Engineering Agency. After the military, he was employed at Bay City Chevrolet Plant for 24-1/2 years. He is survived by his wife, Wendy K. Simons; six children: Sherry (Rudolph) Barrientes, Gerald Simons and friend, Jan, Sandra Simons, and Michelle Simons, all of Bay City, Lori (Robert) Gaul of Standish; two step-daughters: Barbara (Shawn) Ashley of Saginaw and Debera Rotarius of Bay City; six grandchildren: one step- grandson, and one great- grandson; two brothers: John (Barbara) Simons of FL and Thomas Simons of Bay City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law: Jeanne (Kenneth) Rayl of Sault Ste. Marie, James (Loryetta) Rahn of Twining, Donna (Robert) Struble of Bay City and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Stone, age 75 years, passed away Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Bay Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on July 13, 1923 in Boyne City to the late George and Laura (Coblentz) Stone. He was a retired pipefitter from Local 816, a life member of the American Legion Post #104 of Standish, a member of the Bay City Masonic Lodge #129 and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Grace; his children: David (Nancy) Stone of Stafford, VA, Judith Mogg of Linwood, and Jim (Linda) Crowell of Traverse City; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Mabel (Harry) Knapp of Boyne City and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Robert Mogg Sr. and his sister, Juanita Stone. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 10, 1999 at 1:00 P.M. from the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home with Rev. Dee Farr presiding with graveside services to follow under the auspices of Arenac Veterans Council in St. Anne's Cemetery.
