Freier, Melvin John
Midland, Michigan
Melvin John Freier, age 88, of Midland, died early Tuesday morning, May 11, 1999 at his home. He was born on April 24, 1911 in Saginaw, son of the late Herman and Pauline (Luedtke) Freier. He was employed with General Motors, working at the Transmission Plant in Saginaw, retiring in 1971 after 35 years of service. Mr. Freier married the former Emma L. Crandall on April 25, 1984. She predeceased him March 30, 1993. Melvin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Freeland and had enjoyed fishing, gardening and dancing. Surviving are his children and their spouses: Helen and Harold Rossow of Midland, Carl and Kay Freier of Sault Ste. Marie, Sallie and Lyle Wolfgang of North Carolina; two stepchildren: Chuck and Lorraine Crandall of Bay City, Donna and Dick Fobear of Indiantown; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Freier was predeceased by a son, Melvin Robert Freier, one brother, Ed, Freier, a sister, Elda Cherry and his children's mother, Evelyn Viola (Gray) Freier-Moore. Funeral Services will take place at 11:30 A.M. Friday, May 14, 1999 from the Zion Lutheran Church in Freeland. Rev. James Petteys will officiate with private graveside committal services in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Saginaw. Mr. Freier's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith- Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 10:30 A.M. until time of service. Greene, Ardeth P.

Ardeth P. Greene, age 88, of West Branch, passed away at her home on Tuesday. Mrs. Greene had lived in West Branch for most of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the CCW and received the Mother of the Year award from the League of Catholic Women. Mrs. Greene is survived by her children: Donna Jo (Emery) Evans, Wade "Joe" (Linda) Greene, William (Mary Jo) Greene, all of West Branch, Yvonne Storeby of St. Paul, MN, Margaret (John) McCoy of Effie, MN and a daughter-in-law, Alice Greene of West Branch; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, William Wade of Cleveland and Carl (Jane) Wade of Muskegon and two sisters, Wanda Kampenga of Muskegon and Margaret Risley of Imperial Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1986, son, Ronald in 1972, three grandchildren and a brother and sister. The family will receive friends at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch this evening from 7-9 P.M. and Thursday from 12-9 P.M. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Jaskiewicz, Mary Jane (McAlinden)
Bay City, Michigan
Mary Jane Jaskiewicz, loving mother, grandmother, and best friend, age 72 years, passed away Monday evening, May 10, 1999 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Harold P. and Philomena C. McAlinden on February 22, 1927 in Bay City and resided here all of her life. She attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from St. James High School in 1944. Mary Jane was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Surviving family members include two daughters, Mary Jo and Johnna Joy Jaskiewicz, both of Bay City; four sons: James (Susan) Jaskiewicz of Auburn, Steve (Linda) Jaskiewicz of Essexville, Mark Jaskiewicz of Detroit, and Chris (Pam) Jaskiewicz of Bay City; nine grandchildren; her sister, Betty Anne Kowalski; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Jane was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard H. McAlinden and Harold J. McAlinden, her son, John R. Jaskiewicz Jr. and her husband, John R. Jaskiewicz Sr. Special thanks to the Nursing Staff on 7 South of St. Mary's Medical Center, Dr. Rajoulh, Dr. Ninan and Hospice Nurse Sally Kantola for their loving care during Mom's illness. Honoring Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and intermenty of her cremains will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday evening, May 14, 1999 at 7:30 P.M. in W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel with Rev. William J. Rutkowski presiding. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Stanislaus Parish/St. Josaphat Parish Project 2000. Mrs. Kaczynski passed away early Wednesday morning, May 12, 1999 at the Carriage House. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late John and Catherine Cendrowski was born in Detroit on December 8, 1907. Mary was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Mary is survived by four children: Dolores (John) Heinz of Bay City, Jeannie Gorzenski of Bay City, Joanne (Bill) Norgan of Standish and Jerry (Nancy) Kaczynski of Bay City; seven grandchildren: Dick Heinz, Debbie (Lonny) Kipfmiller, Patrick (Rose) Gorzenski, Greg Norgan and Diane Hilliard and children, Mark Norgan, Scott (Julie) Norgan and Stephen (Tammy) St. James; nine great-grandchildren: Diane (Todd) Shreve, Meaghan Gorzenski, Michael Gorzenski, Paul Norgan, Paige Norgan, Trent St. James, Jennifer Dean, Mindy Kipfmiller and Melody Kipfmiller; three great-great-grandchildren: Kyle, Cosette and Tyler Shreve; and a special nephew, Charlie Pawlak and his wife, Millie of Bay City. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Kaczynski in 1959, a son-in-law, Clarence Gorzenski and three sisters. The Funeral Liturgy will take place Friday, May 14, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Richard M. Filary will officiate with the Rite of Committal following at Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 3:00 to 9:00 P.M. and also at the church on Friday where Mrs. Kaczynski will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. until time of services. Our loving mother, Estelle E. May, age 84 years, was called to eternal life with Jesus Christ. She was born on August 6, 1914 in Bay City to Peter and Joanna Bialek. They preceded her in death. She married Vern C. May on February 3, 1934. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1973. Mrs. May was retired from Michigan National Bank. Mrs. May was a member of the Little Flower Society, League of Catholic Men and Women, and the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Estelle always had an open place at her table for all. She was the center of the family and her loving care for each and every one of us will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three daughters: Nancy M. Duchane, Judith M. Johnson, Cynthia M. (John) Phares, all of Bay City; three grandchildren: Lawrence V. (Sally) Duchane of Bay City, Richard C. (Pamela) Johnson of Troy, and Justin (Lori) Johnson of Troy; two great-grandchildren: Lawrence R. Duchane and Thomas G. Duchane; one sister, Emily Popiolek of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Richard A. Johnson and Lawrence E. Duchane, two brothers, Joseph and Henry Bialek and one sister, Mary Ann Bialek Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Visitation Church. Fr. Gerald E. Balwinski will preside. Rite of Committal will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. There will be a Prayer Service Thursday evening at 8:15 o'clock. Friends may call at Stapish West on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock and on Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3 o'clock and in the evening from 5 to 9 o'clock. Nesbit, Donald Howard
Essexville, Michigan formerly of Owosso
Mr. Nesbit died Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at Bay Medical Center. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI on January 18, 1942 to Floyd and Merlie (Keller) Nesbit. He was a graduate of Owosso High School Class of 1959 and resided most of his life in Owosso until moving to Essexville five years ago. He was married to Christine Brokaw for 27 years. Don loved the out-of-doors and was particularly fond of fishing and hunting. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1959 to 1962. He owned and operated Don's Barbershop in Westown Owosso for many years. In Essexville, he owned and operated the Shot and Shell Bar. Survivors are one daughter, Natalie (Marvin) Mesh of Corunna; one son, Joseph Nesbit (and fiancee' Denise Kassa) of Owosso; three grandchildren: Nina Sue, Emily Ann and Kyle George; his mother, Merlie Howard of Owosso; grandmother: Iva Keller of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers: Wayne (Phyllis) Nesbit of Kalkaska, Ronald Nesbit of Flint and Randy (Jeanne) Nesbit of Owosso; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd, in 1992. Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 14, 1999 at 11 A.M. at the Nelson-House Funeral Home, Owosso with Pastor Roger DeVore officiating. Brandi, Gerald G. (Jerry),
Midland, Michigan, Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan.
Passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at Town & Country Nursing Home in Midland, Michigan. Age 80 years. He was born October 12, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and had served as a warrant officer in Europe. Jerry married Grace Kowalski on July 12, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Saginaw, Michigan. He had lived in Owosso and Bay City and returned to Saginaw following the death of his wife, Grace, on July 19, 1984. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Jerry was manager of Walter's Shoes in Owosso for 25 years and was a member of the Owosso Chamber of Commerce. He then owned the shoe department at Sam's Brothers in Bay City until his retirement in 1987. Surviving are one daughter, two sons and their spouses: Elsie and Roger Foster, Marblehead, Massachusetts; Richard and Maureen Radke Brandi, Charlevoix; Roger and Karen Brandi, Midland; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Maura Brandi, Charlevoix; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Wake Service, led by Sharon Jordan Bentley will take place 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
