Gulvas, Delphine B. (Pietruszynski)
Standish, Michigan
Passed away suddenly at her daughter's home (Francie Yarber) in Covina, California on Tuesday, May 11, 1999. She was born September 9, 1920 in Standish, MI, daughter of Joseph and Frances Pietruszynski. The former Delphine Pietruszynski married Aloysius (Mann) Gulvas July 30, 1938. He predeceased her in 1963. She was a lifelong resident of Standish where she owned and operated a farm and was a member of Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons and a daughter: Aloysius (Yvonne) and Raymond (Lydia) Gulvas of Standish, Francie (Tim) Yarber of Covina, California; nine grandchildren: Monte (Ruth) Gulvas of Standish, Wendy (Rocky) Larson of Waldorf, Maryland, Mark Gulvas of Standish, Kristy (Terry) Lyons of Sterling, Monte Hilderbrand of Bay City, Chad Gulvas of Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Blake, Shannon and Keegan Yarber of Covina, California; six great- grandchildren: Andrea and Adam Gulvas, Joshua, James and Joel Larson and Joshua Hilderbrand; two sisters: Margaret (Joseph) Fryzel and Selma Fiddler, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Delphine and a son, Gerald (Zeke) Gulvas; four sisters: Nellie Jozwiak, Anna Allen, Marie Drzewiecki, Belva Dinco and two brothers: Bernard Pietrusinski and Jack (Baker) Pietruszynski. Rite of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 15, 1999 at 11 A.M. from Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Rev. Fr. James Fitzpatrick will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 11 A.M. to 9 P.M. on Friday with a 7:30 P.M. Prayer Service. Mrs. Gulvas will lie in state at the church from 10 A.M. until service time on Saturday. R. O. Hacker, Irving C.
Essexville, Michigan
Irving C. Hacker, age 73 years, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Bay Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on March 21, 1926 in Kawkawlin. Mr. Hacker was a lifelong resident of Bay County. He was an architect and partner in the firm of Brysselbout, Starke, Hacker and Simon. Mr. Hacker was involved with the design and construction of many area institutional buildings such as schools for the Bay City School District including Western High School; schools in the Essexville- Hampton School District including Garber High School; renovation of several county buildings, including the Bay County Building; area churches and high rise apartment buildings. Mr. Hacker served with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Bay City Lions Club, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, a charter member of the Linwood- Kawkawlin V.F.W. Post 6950, the Essexville-Hampton Historical Society, the Hampton Township Planning Commission and a past member of the Bay City Elks Lodge No. 88. Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann, whom he married on June 21, 1952; three children: Lynn A. Maynard and her husband, John of Essexville, Jan J. Hacker and her husband, Henry H. Webster of Roseville, Minnesota and Irving Todd Hacker and his wife, Saundra of Traverse City; four granddaughters: Dana and Kristin Maynard and Karena and Kendra Hacker; his mother, Mildred E. Hacker of Essexville; a brother, Gordon Hacker of Ewen, Michigan and a sister, Donna Reilly of Tawas City, Michigan. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Mary Church. Rev. Fr. James G. Heller will preside. The Rite of Entombment will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials are available at the funeral home for the Bay Medical Center Foundation and St. Mary Church Building Fund. Friends may call at Stapish East (Essexville) on Thursday evening between the hours of 6 and 9 o'clock and on Friday between the hours of 2 and 9 o'clock. Howse, Eldred
Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at Tendercare of Saginaw, age 78 years. Eldred Winton Howse was born in Bay City May 23, 1920, the son of the late Cecil and Myrtle Howse. Following high school, Eldred joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, during the depression, serving in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Eldred had worked in may places including the Eddy Shipyard, Kelvinator and Saginaw Steering Gear for General Motors. Eldred married Georgina Niemeyer September 9, 1960; she predeceased him in 1987. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Cathedral. Eldred was a multitalented musician and loved to travel. He was a loyal friend and will be greatly missed. Surviving are a son, Dennis Howse and his wife, Esther; three grandsons: Keith, Steven and Andrew; a sister, Meta Cody and her husband Everett; seven stepchildren and their spouses: Lois Brown, James and Judy Niemeyer, Earl and Kay Niemeyer, Fred (Ted) and Mary Beth Niemeyer, Sharon and Walter Morris, Ernie Niemeyer and Dixie and Lawrence Spayth; also many grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Leola, and by his brothers, Charles, Wallace and Arthur. Funeral Service will take place 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the W. L. Case & Co. Funeral Chapel, 409 Adams Street. Rev. Fr. Joseph Schabel will officiate with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Claude C. Kingsley, age 88, of Sterling, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at Tolfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch. He was born on June 25, 1910 to Charles and Irene Kingsley in Detroit, MI. Mr. Kingsley was retired from Pontiac Motors as an electrician. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude and one daughter, Susan (Doug) Colegrove; six grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 15, 1999 at 1:00 P.M. at the Forshee Funeral Home, Twining, MI with intermenty at Clayton Twp. Cemetery. Our loving mother, Estelle E. May, age 84 years, was called to eternal life with Jesus Christ. She was born on August 6, 1914 in Bay City to Peter and Joanna Bialek. They preceded her in death. She married Vern C. May on February 3, 1934. He preceded her on January 3, 1973. Mrs. May was retired from Michigan National Bank. Mrs. May was a member of the Visitation Church, Little Flower Society, League of Catholic Men and Women, and the Bay Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Estelle always had an open place at her table for all. She was the center of the family and her loving care for each and everyone of us will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three daughters: Nancy M. Duchane, Judith M. Johnson, Cynthia M. (John) Phares, all of Bay City; three grandchildren: Lawrence V. (Sally) Duchane of Bay City, Richard C. (Pamela) Johnson of Troy, and Justin (Lori) Johnson of Troy; two great-grandchildren: Lawrence R. Duchane and Thomas G. Duchane; one sister, Emily Popiolek of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Richard A. Johnson and Lawrence E. Duchane, two brothers, Joseph and Henry Bialek and one sister, Mary Ann Bialek. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Visitation Church. Fr. Gerald E. Balwinski will preside. Rite of Committal will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. There will be a Prayer Service Thursday evening at 8:15 o'clock. Friends may call at Stapish West on Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3 o'clock and in the evening from 5 to 9 o'clock. Mrs. May will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10 o'clock until the time of service. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home for Visitation Academy. Stapish West 805 E. Nevin, Alma I.
Posen, Michigan formerly of Bay City
Alma I. Nevin, age 75, of Posen, died Monday, May 3, 1999 at Alpena General Hospital. Alma was born July 25, 1923 in Long Rapids Township to Neil and Kathryn (Morrison) Nevin. She attended Alpena High School and Alpena County Normal, graduating in 1942-43. She taught eight years in the rural area before attending Central Michigan University, graduating in 1953. She received her MA in 1957 from the University of Michigan. She then taught 25 years in Bay City before returning to reside in the family residence. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Bay City and Long Rapids. She belonged to the Association of University Women for 28 years. She belonged to both the MEA and the MARSP and was President of the Heart Association. She traveled extensively, visiting 101 countries and gave many illustrative talks about her trips. Surviving are one sister, Mary Ethelyn (Mrs. Allen) Dunckel of Portage, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Kathryn MacConnell on April 30, 1999 and a brother, Keith Douglas Nevin. Double Funeral Services were held Tuesday, May 4, 1999 for both Alma and her sister, Norma at Long Rapids Congregational Church. Interment was in Long Rapids Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Long Rapids Congregational Church, 5440 Church St., Lachine, MI 49753 or a charity of friend's choice.

Pletzke, Germaine F.
Bay City, Michigan
Miss Pletzke, age 75 years, passed away Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Bay Medical Care Facility. She was born in Bay City on March 9, 1924 to the late Jacob and Frances (Palusziak) Pletzke. Miss Pletzke was retired from Bay Medical Care Facility where she was the Food Service Supervisor. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, the Legion of Mary, the Daughters of Isabella, the Bay Medical Care Facility Auxiliary and the League of Catholic Women and Men. Survivors include a sister, Maxine (Walter) Guthrie of Bay City; nieces and nephews: Dutch (Roxann) Guthrie of Vassar, Pat Ferranti of Kawkawlin, Pamela (Tyler) Gerard of Kawkawlin, John (Sandy) Guthrie of Bay City and Troy (Theresa) Guthrie of Midland; as well as several other nieces and nephews not in the area and many great nieces and great nephews. Miss Pletzke was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister: John, Victor and Sylvester Pletzke and Pauline Klimek. Funeral Liturgy will be on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Penzien & Steele Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. William J. Rutkowski will preside. Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bay Medical Care Facility.
