O'Connor, Timothy Joseph "Joe"
Indian Rocks Beach, Florida formerly of Tawas City
Born in Pontiac, MI in 1915, Timothy Joseph O'Connor, known as Joe to friends and family, died in Florida on the afternoon of May 17, 1999 in the company of family. Joe was the son of Ada LaLonde, a French-Canadian of Alpena and Timothy Joseph O'Connor, an American-born man raised on the Emmet farm of his Irish parents. He was raised along with his two siblings in a devout Catholic home. In childhood, he dedicated much of his time to horses, forming a riding club and performing regularly. As a devoted young man, Joe began to prepare for priesthood in the seminary, but his drive, as he soon discovered, was towards the more secular world of family and commerce. With the death of his father in 1937, Joe, a man motivated to establish himself, entered the business world as an entrepreneur in the horse business and was an employee of Consumers Power Company. Through the connection of friends and colleagues, he met Isabel J. Mair in late 1940. He and the younger blue-eyed Scot woman were soon beloved and were married in 1942. Out tending horses at the stable, Joe heard the news of the U.S. declaration of war against Germany. Soon drafted, he left for military training in California. Prior to his return from the service, his first son, Timothy Joseph O'Connor, was born in 1945. They moved to Tawas in 1948 in order to enter business with friend, Joe McNally, then owner of the Pendleton Shop. Happy with the new life in the Tawas area, Joe bought the business and the family settled down. Son John Thomas O'Connor followed in the winter of 1952. Life was filled with hunting outings, travel with family, coffee with friends at The Pier, social events with good friends and family and clubs like the Kiwanas Club, East Tawas Club, Knights of Columbus and Chamber of Commerce. With his heart attack in 1966, Joe increasingly tapered his involvement in the business, with sons, Tim and John, carrying the business responsibility more and more. With wife, Isabel, Joe retired to Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, where he golfed, fished, raised the flag daily, ate steaks rare and oysters by the dozen, and lived out a life, due largely to his spirit, much longer than expected. Throughout his entire life, the sparkle of his amiability and natural inclination towards friendship and love, never dimmed. He is survived by his wife, Isabel J. O'Connor, son, Timothy Joseph O'Connor, wife LuAnn O'Connor, children Erin and Shawn O'Connor and Kelly, Anthony and Aimee Kus and son, John Thomas O'Connor, wife Constance D. O'Connor and sons Andrew and Christopher. He was predeceased by his siblings Jeannie and Robert. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Tawas, on Thursday, May 27, 1999 at 11:00 A.M. Memorial gifts should be directed to Tawas Area Education Foundation, P.O. Box 81, East Tawas or Tawas St. Joseph Hospital, 200 Hemlock, Tawas City. Jacques & Kob Funeral Home Tawas City, Michigan
