Mr. DuFort passed away Thursday morning, February 3, 2000 at Tendercare Nursing Center in Saginaw after a brief illness, age 89 years. Bernard was born October 14, 1910 in Standish, MI to the late Henry J. and Nettie (Pudvan) DuFort and has resided in this area for the last 18 years, coming from Standish, MI. Bernard was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saginaw and V.F.W. Post 3724 in Standish. Bernard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was employed at Dow Chemical for eighteen years and loved golfing and bowling. On December 18, 1937 he married Ms. Pauline F. Thurlow; she predeceased him January 12, 1992. Many nieces and nephews survive Bernard. Three sisters and four brothers predeceased Bernard. A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 7, 2000 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Leonard Stunek and Rev. Fr. Mason Vaughn will officiate. Per Bernard's request, there will be no public visitation, for cremation has taken place. Bernard's family will greet friends at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Saginaw on Monday from 9:30 AM until time of service. Phyllis L. Frenzke, age 73 years, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday evening, February 2, 2000 at her residence. She was born in Bay City on March 24, 1926. Mrs. Frenzke was a lifelong resident. She was a former employee of Federal Department Store and W.R. Knepp. Mrs. Frenzke was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of AmVets Post 22 Auxiliary and was a four-time past President of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Frenzke was a co-chairwoman of the Friday morning Bingo. The former Phyllis Timm was married to Carl Frenzke on June 1, 1946. Surviving are her husband, Carl of Bay City; a son, Charles Frenzke and his wife, Vickie of Saginaw; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Diane) Delaney of Bay City; four granddaughters: Kendra and Jessica Delaney, Angela and Jillian Delaney; a great-grandson, Christopher Delaney; two brothers: Arthur (Dottie) Timm, Raymond (Helen) Timm, all of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Virginia Timm of Flint. Mrs. Frenzke was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Underwood and Florence Richard, two brothers, Virgil and Harvey Timm and a son-in-law, Terry Delaney. The Funeral Service will be Monday morning at 11 o'clock in Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Leslie D. Tyvela and Vicar David Zeuschner will officiate. Interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Age 69, died Tuesday evening, February 1, 2000 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida following a 2- 1/2 year illness. He was born June 27, 1930 in Bay City, son the late Ruben E. and Martha H. (Bendler) Volz. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Anderson on December 28, 1950 in Pigeon. Fred had been a self-employed Master Electrician for many years before retiring in 1993. He was a life member of New Salem Lutheran Church, had served on the Board of Elders and organist. He was also a member of the Sebewaing Lions Club where he was currently President and had 38 years of perfect attendance. He was a board member of the Lions Bear Lake Handicapped Camp near Lapeer; was past District Governor, District 11D2 of Lions of Michigan; and was a Melvin Jones Award recipient. He was also a licensed pilot, an avid golfer and past President of his league. Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of Sebewaing; one son, David (Karen) Volz of Frankenmuth; two daughters: Joanne Brooks of Sebewaing and Julie (Kevin) Hickey of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren: Rachel and Benjamin Volz, Matthew Brooks, Andreas and Kyle Hickey. The Funeral Service will take place at 2 P.M. Sunday, February 6, 2000 at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Rev. William L. Mayhew will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery. Born September 13, 1907 in Bay City; died February 4, 2000 at the age of 92. Mrs. DeWitt was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, East Lansing, had been active in the Outreach Program, and was a volunteer at Sparrow Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orlo H. Miller (1970); her second husband, William "Roy" DeWitt (1979); one brother and sister-in-law, Elwyn and Corrine Kaekel; two step- daughters, Kathryn Kluesner and Mary Ann Eckerly and one stepson, William DeWitt. Surviving are one son, Jack (Elinor) Miller of Lansing; two grandchildren: Lynne Miller and Ruth (William) Drury; two great- grandchildren: William Drury III and Andrew Drury; two nephews: Charles and Thomas Kaekel; two step-daughters: Ruth Hiller and Dorothy Miner; four stepsons: Robert (Barbara), Tom (Nancy), Jerry (Camilla) and Jon (Mary Ann) DeWitt; 32 step- grandchildren; 66 step-great- grandchildren; and eight step great-great-grandchildren. Florentina Winter Gillies, age 79, of Midland and formerly of West Branch, died February 3, 2000 at the MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. She was born March 27, 1920 in Ogemaw County and married Burt Gillies on November 11, 1941 in Reed City. She is survived by her husband, Burt; daughters: Janey (Roger) Winslow of Midland and Ann (George) Koch of Durand; nine grandchildren; three sisters and five brothers including Lloyd and Cassie Winter of West Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Church in Midland Monday, February 7, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Branch. Mrs. Pfannes went home to be with her Lord peacefully Thursday, February 3, 2000 at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland with her family by her side. Age 91 years. Clara was born the daughter of the late J. George and Louisa (Bluhm) Leinberger March 6, 1908 in Kochville Twp., and had resided in this area all her life. Clara was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church of Beaver, Ladies of Zion, Seniors Member of Zion, Lutheran Fellowship Association, Lutheran Laymen's League, Lutheran World Relief, loved being involved with the Lord's work, enjoyed quilting and bowling and was a co-owner and operator of Pfannes Grocery Store in Auburn for 60 years. On April 30, 1933 in St. John's Lutheran Church of Amelith, she married Martin O. Pfannes; he predeceased her on January 7, 1993. Clara is survived by a son, Donald (Darlene) Pfannes of Auburn; two daughters: Louanne (Leonard) Vogtman of Auburn and Nancy Lee (Nathan) Nicol of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren: Lynne (Rev. Robert) Riggs, Lori (Jerome) Kulczycki, Lisa (William) Rackow, Lyle Vogtman, Susan (Paul) Zalucha, Barbara (Gilbert) Zoellner, Mary (Robert) Knight, Linda (Daniel) Rosolowski and Martin Pfannes; 12 great-grandchildren: two brothers: Maynard Leinberger and George (Arlene) Leinberger, all of Bay City; one sister-in-law, Esther Leinberger of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews. Clara was also predeceased by one sister and brother-in-law, Malinda (Richard) Hutter, one brother, Arthur Leinberger and one sister- in-law, Louise Leinberger. Mr. Schindler, age 80 years, died February 4, 2000 at Bay Medical Center. He was born in Bangor Twp. on January 8, 1920. Mr. Schindler was retired from American Hoist and Derrick and was a member of the United Steel Workers Local 2015. He served in World War II and was a member of D.A.V. Chapter No. 9. He is survived by three sons: George Schindler of Bay City, Lawrence (Marsha) Schindler of Bay City and James (Penny) Schindler of Oscoda; a daughter- in-law Cassandra Schindler of Bay City; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Phyllis Marx of Brighton and Shirley Tomzack of Bay City and a brother, Charles Sullivan of Prudenville. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Schindler on June 23, 1994. Funeral and Committal Service will be held on Tuesday at Penzien and Steele Funeral Home.
