Mr. George, age 87 years, died February 5, 2000 at Brian's House. He was born in Pennsylvania on November 6, 1912, the son of Michael and Margaret (Drabacher) George. He married Rose Danko on February 15, 1943 and she preceded his death on December 23, 1997. He was a retired employee of the Bay County Building. He is survived by eight children: Beverly (Dennis) Huff of Saginaw, John George Jr. of Lincoln Park, Gladys (Richard) Spyhalski of Bay City, Elaine (Melvin) Gerard of Florida, Patricia (Norman) Schnell and Robert George, both of Kawkawlin, Barbara (David) Ramos of Pinconning and Roseann (Scott) Ireland of Bridgeport; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Margaret Rogers of California and Irene Archambeau of Twining. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew, a sister, Elizabeth and two brothers, Frank and Michael. The Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday at 10 A.M. at St. Boniface Church. Rev. Fr. Dale Orlik will preside. Private burial will be at Cedar Valley Cemetery in Twining. Memorial tributes may be made to Brian's House. Haist, Willard P. "Doc", D.D.S.
Pigeon, Michigan
Willard P. "Doc" Haist, D.D.S., passed away Saturday, February 5, 2000. He was born in Pigeon on August 12, 1914. Following his graduation from Pigeon High School in 1932, he attended Michigan Agriculture College until 1934, then attended and graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1937. On June 27, 1937 he was united in marriage to Leah Maxwell at the Evangelical Church of Pigeon (now Salem United Methodist Church). She preceded him in death on June 19, 1998. He opened his dental practice in Pigeon in June of 1939 and in 1942, he began service with the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Knox. He returned to his Pigeon dental practice in 1945, where he remained until his retirement in 1982. Doc Haist was a former member of the Pigeon Lions Club and a current member of the Pigeon Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Pigeon Men's Community Chorus, a member of the Gideons, and a life member of the Michigan Dental Association. He was a faithful, active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. His survivors include his daughter, Lois (Samuel) Dewald of Auburn; two sons: Robert (Sue) Haist of Downington, Pennsylvania and Donald (Becki) Haist of Greenville; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Becki (Kent) Wieland, Steven (Stacey) Dewald, Teri (Joseph) Blackburn, Tisa (Nathan) Newhouse, Tricia Haist, Timothy Haist (fiancee' Jessica Ingles), and Mark Haist; and four great-grandchildren: Hans Wieland, Nicholas Wieland, Lea Ashley Blackburn and David Dewald. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon. Harfst, Rev. Harry E.
Lake Orion, Michigan formerly of Essexville
Rev. Harry Edward Harfst, age 88 years, was called home by the Lord he served faithfully for so many years on February 5, 2000 at Bortz Health Care in Orion, MI. He was born on May 2, 1911 in Detroit to the late Max and Theresa (Neuman) Harfst. On September 2, 1933 he married the former Elizabeth Marino and she preceded him in death on October 12, 1999. Rev. Harfst was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He served as Pastor of Morenci Baptist Church, Morenci, MI from 1941-1950, at Olivet Baptist Church in Lansing from 1950-1954 and at Essexville Baptist Community Church from 1954-1976. After retiring from Essexville Baptist Community Church, he served as interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Traverse City, Peoples Church in Kalkaska and as visiting pastor at First United Methodist Church in Pompano Beach, FL. While serving as pastor in Lansing, he was instrumental in starting a mission church that became Bethel Baptist Church. Pastor Harfst served as an officer in the American Baptist Churches of Michigan and on the Garber High School building committee. He was a member of Essexville Baptist Community Church and an associate member of First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids, MI. He was a former member of the Bay City YMCA and a charter member and chaplain of the Essexville- Hampton Lion's Club. Survivors include two sons: Daniel (Rae) Harfst of Essexville, David (Sherry) Harfst of Lake Orion, MI; four grandchildren: Craig (Kristi) Harfst, Curt (Anne) Harfst, Macy Folker, Caroline Leknius and six great- grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Rev. R. Thomas (Dorothy) Harfst of Leesburg, FL and a sister-in-law, Betty Harfst of Novi. He was preceded in death by a sister, Flora Ark and brothers, Eugene and James Harfst. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Essexville Baptist Community Church. Rev. Edward H. Dora D. Rounds, age 79 of Midland, died Saturday, February 5, 2000 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. The daughter of David and Dora (Slater) Clements was born July 8, 1920 in White City, New Mexico. She was raised in San Benito, TX and moved to Bay City in 1936. On July 9, 1936, she married Clyde M. Rounds. Dora had worked as a waitress at Paul's Restaurant in Bay City and was office manager for her husband's State Farm Insurance Agency in Midland from 1971 until her retirement in 1991. She was a member and religious education instructor at St. James Catholic Church, Bay City, and more recently at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church. Dora enjoyed fishing and was an avid square dancer for more than 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Clyde; two daughters and their husbands: Terrie and Donald Sharon of Bay City and Nina and Dick Bauer of Oscoda; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kristine Rounds of Mora, MN; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, Midland. Rev. Fr. Robert Davey will officiate with entombment to follow in New Calvary Mausoleum. Dora's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith- Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, Midland, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 A.M. until time of Mass. Mrs. Horn, age 86 years, passed away Monday, February 7, 2000 at Bay Medical Care Facility. She was born in Bay City on April 9, 1913 to the late James and Eva (Smith) Reid. She married Arthur C. Horn and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1993. She retired from JCPenney where she worked as a sales clerk. She was a member of Essexville Baptist Community Church and Sharon Chapter No. 20 O.E.S. Survivors include a son, Bruce (Lois) Horn of Bay City; a daughter-in-law, Christine Horn of Ohio; three grandsons: Steven, Michael and Brian Horn; a step- grandson, Jason Heisley; a great- granddaughter, Gabrielle; a sister, Virginia Reid of Midland; a brother-in-law, Roy T. (Helen) Horn of Kawkawlin; a nephew, Robert (Charlene) Horn of Essexville; as well as other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald J. Horn and two brothers, Raymond Reid and John Reid. Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Essexville Baptist Community Church. Rev. Edward H. Edward F. Janish, age 88, of Twining, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2000 at his home. He was born on November 9, 1911 to the late Lawrence and Minnie Janish in Twining. On August 3, 1940, he married Anna Kirvy of Twining and farmed in the area for 45 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Standish and St. Stephen's Church of Skidway. Ed is survived by his wife, Anna; three sons: Donald (Judy) of Ludington, Thomas (Joyce) of Twining and Marty (Carolyn) of Twining; one daughter, Maryann (Tim) Hintze of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; one brother, John (Elizabeth) of Twining and a sister, Marie (Dave) Peavler of Alexandria, IN. He is predeceased by his sister, Josephine Federspeil of Twining. Funeral Mass will be held on February 10, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Stephen Church in Skidway.
