Joseph P. Madziar, age 82 years, died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at his residence. He was born to Joseph and Catherine (Koziol) Madziar on March 17, 1917 in Bay City, where he resided all his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving our country during WWII. Before his retirement in 1990, Joe was an electrical contractor co- owning and operating Madziar Electric for 37 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and its Senior Citizens Club and Athletic Club (former vice-president); charter and lifetime member of Knights of Columbus St. Stephen Council #4102; member of the Felician Sisters Auxiliary and Legion of Mary; last president of Holy Name Society; and also helped organize All Saints Athletic Club, serving as its president for two years. On October 2, 1948, Joseph P. Madziar married Rita M. Matuszewski, and she survives him, along with their five children: Patrick (Kathleen) Madziar of Tecumseh, Annette O'Brien (Bill Beard) of Bay City, Joseph T. (Gail) Madziar of Mason, Monica Madziar (and special friend, Jim Dishaw) of Bay City, and Donald Madziar (and special friend, Dora Esseltine) of Kawkawlin; seven grandchildren: Thomas, Elizabeth and Carolyn Madziar, Jennifer (Mathieu) Pero, Angela Madziar, Jacklyn and Lee Joseph Madziar; one step- grandson, Alex Beard; his brother, Stanley (Jean) Madziar of Bay City; two sisters: Mary (Walt) Pietryga and Frances (Barney) Jaskiewicz of Bay City; a step-sister, Anna (Ed) Sochacki of Munger; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, a brother, Roman Madziar, a sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Ed Matuszewski and two step- brothers, Martin and John Slaby, preceded him in death. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Joe will lie in state in church Wednesday after 9:00 A.M. Rev. William J. Rutkowski will preside and intermenty will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Bay County Veterans Council. Members of St. Stan's Senior Citizens Club and Felician Sisters Auxiliary will pray the Rosary Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral chapel. Members of K of C #4102 will have their Bible Presentation during the Vigil Prayer Service which will be held Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral chapel. Dale L. McCullough, age 58, of Edmore, MI, died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Kelsey Memorial Hospital, Lakeview, MI. He was born to Russell and Dorothy (Reetz) McCullough in Standish, MI on January 29, 1942. He married Linda L. Donahue on September 18, 1965 in Standish. He was a funeral director and owner of the Stebbins- McCullough Chapel of Edmore and Youngman-McCullough Chapel in Lakeview. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Edmore and President of the Church Council; also a member of the Lions Club, M.F.D.A. and enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife, Linda McCullough of Edmore; two daughters: Kim Lumbert of Zeeland, MI and Julie and Jamie Farrell of Mt. Pleasant, MI; three grandchildren: Erika, Amanda and Luke; his parents, Russell and Dorothy McCullough of Standish; a sister, Beverly and Dean Berry of Sterling, MI and a brother, Curtis and Karen McCullough of Ohio. Mrs. O'Hare, age 80 years, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2000 at her home. She was born on June 18, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Herbert and Evelyn (Pedrick) Byfield. She married Francis W. O'Hare in Bay City and he preceded her in death in 1970. She was an honorary member of the Northeastern Michigan Rosarians. Mrs. O'Hare is survived by a son, Michael O'Hare and his wife, Linda of Bay City; three grandsons: Patrick (Jill) O'Hare of Bay City, James (Tiffany) O'Hare of Sebewaing and Robert O'Hare of Bay City; three great- grandchildren: Nolan, Katelyn and Jacob O'Hare, as well as two sisters: Frances Pitts of Bay City and Hazel Byfield of Oklahoma. Mrs. O'Hare was preceded in death by a son, Brian O'Hare and a sister, Grace Pitts. Funeral and Committal Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 A.M. at Penzien & Steele Funeral Home. Rev. Mr. Simmons died Sunday, February 27, 2000 at Bay Medical Center, age 70 years. He was born September 1, 1929 in St. Charles, MI to the late George and Frances (Martin) Simmons. He was married to Arlene Castaneda on October 13, 1956; she survives him. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after WWII from 1947 to 1950; then re-enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. He retired from General Motors in 1986 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church, AMVets Post 22 and was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to fish, hunt and play euchre with all his close friends. Surviving besides his wife, Arlene, are two children: Ernest (Cheryl) Simmons and Connie Sue Simmons, both of Bay City; three grandchildren: Ernest R. II, Catherine and Therez Simmons; two brothers, Don (Shirley) Simmons, Hale, MI and Ed (Dorothy) Simmons, Millington; two sisters: Barbara (Nathan) Reed, and Berneita (Jack) Whelton, all of Saginaw; several nieces and nephews; very special friends: Pat Jacobs and Dick Mieske. Mr. O'Laughlin, age 88 years, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2000 at Bay Medical Center following a lingering illness. He was born in Bay County on February 23, 1912 to the late Patrick and Sarah (Jacket) O'Laughlin. He was retired from Defoe Shipyard and was a member of St. Mary's Church. He married the former Doris Amley on September 14, 1946 at St. Anne's Church; she preceded him in death on April 8, 1999. He is survived by his children: Charles Jr. and Margaret Jones of Bay City, Pat and John Bonner of Rhodes, Susan and Donald Tudethout of Rhodes, Dolores and Floyd Podgorniak of Pinconning, June and Mike Windt of Pinconning, Michael O'Laughlin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Kevin and Marie O'Laughlin of Rhodes; 12 grandchildren: James, Jennifer, Shelley, Tracy, John, Jason, Wendy, Andy, Lisa, Kim, Nick and Mitchell; five great-grandchildren: Jacqueline, Ian, Shawn, Kyle and Daniel; a sister, Clarabelle and Bernard Karbowski; two brothers, Bernard and Selena O'Laughlin and Maurice and Vivian O'Laughlin; sister-in-law, Betty O'Laughlin and a brother-in-law, Elmo DeLano. Mrs. Manyen, age 94 years, died March 7, 2000 at her home. She was born in Pinconning, MI on October 27, 1905, the daughter of August and Caroline (Heinrich) Steingraber. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses North and South. She is survived by two sons: Robert (Carriene) Perrault of Bay City and Roger D. Manyen of Essexville; three grandchildren: Renee Perrault of Bay City, Patricia (Samuel) Maza of East Jordan and Randall Manyen of Chicago, IL and a great-grandson, Theodore Maza. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Xavier Perrault and her second husband, Raymond Manyen, three brothers: August, Fred and Emil Steingraber and four sisters: Alma Barry, Hattie Vogel, Lena Hawkins and Olga Steingraber. In keeping with the wishes of Mrs. Manyen, she will be cremated. Her cremains will be buried at St. Patrick Cemetery. No visiting hours are scheduled. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses North and South, 5435 Kasemeyer Road, Bay City. Officiating will be David Szekely, Minister of Kingdom Hall.
