Josephine Nietering
Member of Second Reformed Church
Josephine M. Nietering, 85, of Grand Haven died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at a local care facility.
She was born Aug. 5, 1917 to Joseph and Pauline (La Presti) Capitano in Grand Haven and married George Nietering April 12, 1941.
Mrs. Nietering was lifelong resident of Grand Haven. She was a member of Second Reformed Church where she was a member of the Martha Circle, member and past president of the Women's Guild and served on the funeral luncheon committee. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Women's Group at Grand Haven Golf Club where she had scored a hole in one; and was a former member of the Women's Bowling League.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, George; two daughters, Bonnie (Michael) Walker and Barbara (Jim) Andrus both of Grand Haven; two sons, Roger (Lois) Nietering, Munster, Ind., and Douglas Nietering, East Grand Rapids, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her sister Mary Levsay, Spring Lake.
Her two sisters Phyllis and Rose, and four brothers Frank, Tony, Sam and Angelo preceded her in death.
Arrangements are being handled by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad of Grand Haven.
A funeral service for Mrs. Nietering will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Second Reformed Church with Rev. Lary Jackson and Pastor Alvin Hospers officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Second Reformed Women's Ministries.

Jonas Braund
A gift from God for a little while
Jonas John Braund, age 23 months, died Sunday, December 1, 2002 in an automobile accident.
He was born in Grand Haven, MI on December 18, 2000 to Randal and Melissa (Sterling) Braund.
Survivors: parents, Randal and Melisssa Braund of Grand Haven; grandparents, Phil and Mary Braund of Lafayette, IN; and Lowell and Lois Sterling of Rochester, MN; brother, Jesse Braund at home; several aunts and uncles and 11 cousins.
Jonas was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
Funeral services for Jonas J. Braund, age 23 months, will be held Thursday, December 5, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Haven Golf Club with Jerome Frandle and Shane Brown officiating. Visitation will be one and a half hours prior to the service at the golf club and Wednesday, 6-9 p.m. at Clock Funeral Home. Interment at Lakeshore Cemetery.
Curtis Hazard
Designed a number of sailboats
Curtis Alexander Hazard, 49, of Birmingham, MI, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002.
He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on March 24, 1953, to William and Dorothy (Hoxie) Hazard, and married Marci Potter on September 23, 1998, in Florence, Italy.
He was an engineer, employed as a stress analysis consultant for the automotive industry. Schooled as a naval architect, Curt designed a number of sailboats that have competed in the Great Lakes racing circuit.
Sports cars, sailing and spending time with family and friends at his cottage in Grand Haven were his passion.
He is sadly missed by his wife, Marci, and their adorable 3 1/2 year old son, Alexander, of Birmingham, Michigan; his brother, Bill (Kathi) Hazard, and their children, Brittany and Grant of Grand Haven; sister, Marilyn Hazard and her children, Jami and Alexandria of East Grand Rapids; and many other relatives and friends.
His parents preceded him in death.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Grand Haven on Tuesday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Henry Idema officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's Episcopal Church of Grand Haven.
Arthur D'Ambrosio
Arthur D'Ambrosio, 76, of Grand Haven died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Hartford.
He was born July 22, 1926, to Rocco "Dan" and Caroline (Corty) D'Ambrosio in Benton Harbor.
Mr. D'Ambrosio is survived by his brothers, Raymond D'Ambrosio of San Gabriel, Calif., and Leonard D'Ambrosio of Grand Haven.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Grand Haven.
A funeral mass for Mr. D'Ambrosio will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Friends may meet the family at church one hour prior to the service, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.

Annabelle Straub
Annabelle M. Straub (nee France), formerly of Spring Lake and Muskegon, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph; her sister, Rita; and brother, William. Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth (Craig) Carlson, Marti Cook; foster daughter, Kristin (Clark) Perry; brothers: Robert (Norma) France, Leonard (Doris) France, Harold (Pat) France; sister, Dorothy (Clare) Humphreys; grandchildren: Maerin Renee (Brad) Timm, Caitlin Connolly Bridget, David and John Tomich, Bill, Glen, Lane and Mark Humphreys, Linda, Deanna and Donald Fritz, Leslie, David, Ronald, Kathy and Barbara France; and great-grandchildren: Brittany and Samantha Connolly, Destinie and Cameron Tomich.
She was a long-standing member of St. Mary's Church, Spring Lake, and Sacred Heart Church where she was active in the Altar Society. She also extended her love by caring for her foster children for many years. There is no one who can replace her and she will be sorely missed, but she is happy and at peace with God and her Joseph.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 E. Summit, Muskegon. Interment: Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Everest Funeral Home, 1783 E. Keating Avenue, Muskegon.

George Brown
George Brown, 95, of Spring Lake died at his home Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Brown in 1998.
Survivors include his son, George Z. Brown of Oregon; his granddaughter, April Brown and her husband George Wehn; is sister-in-law, Beatrice (Stapleton) Cooper; nieces, nephews and friends.

Frank Zant, Jr.
Frank Zant, Jr., 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002.
He was born in Holland, Mich. Dec. 8, 1925 to Frank and Agnes (Fitzpatrick) Zant and married the former Emma Lou Bond on Nov. 17, 1957 in Hart.
Mr. Zant had been employed as a laborer at Oldberg Manufacturing. He was also employed by Teledyne Continental Motors in Muskegon, Gardner-Denver of Grand Haven and the National Guard in Grand Haven.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, VFW Post 2326 and American Legion Post 289. He also enjoyed perch fishing on the pier, camping and coin collecting. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Lou of Spring Lake; four daughters, Caren (Gene) Fann of Spring Lake; Mary Ann (Bob) Kerridge of Spring Lake; Cindy (Steve) Rosso of Grand Haven; Debra Christian and her friend, Skip Brown of Grand Haven; six grandchildren, one great grandson; four step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Judy) Zant of Spring Lake and Ron (Phyllis) Zant of Norton Shores; three sisters, Mary Kohnke of Grand Haven; Bonnie (Don) Chittenden of Nunica; Darlene (Leon) Major of Grand Haven and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Don Paul Zant.

The funeral Mass for Mr. Frank Zant, Jr., will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Anthony Vainavicz officiating. Interment at Spring Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clock Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
