Edna B. Bowren
BENTON HARBOR - Edna B. Bowren, 78, of Benton Harbor passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor with the Rev. James Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. The visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fairplain Chapel.
Edna was born on Sept. 12, 1930, in Cardwell, Mo., to Gordie and Anna Bass. She married her husband, Leland Bowren on Dec. 27, 1947, in Floral Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1993. Together they had 46 years of marriage. Edna retired from Michigan Fruit Canners in 1973 after 19 years of employment. She was a member of the Yore Community Church in Sodus Township. She enjoyed doing crocheting and was a die hard Cubs fan. Edna was a good cook and was noted for her fried chicken. She was a loving and giving family person who was a mother to everyone.
She is survived by her children, Bruce (Debbie) Bowren of Benton Harbor, Roger (Cyndi) Bowren of Benton Harbor, Norman (Linda) Bowren of Benton Harbor, Donna (Larry) Stroud of Benton Harbor and Pam (Wayne) Haigler of Baroda; her brother, Donald Bass of Libby, Mont.; her 15 grandchildren; her 35 great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-grandchild due in November.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, J. B. Bass.
Joseph C. Cagle
SOUTH HAVEN - Joseph C. Cagle, age 54, of South Haven passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at his home.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will meet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home with a memorial service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Koller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com.
Joe was born Sept. 10, 1954, in South Haven the son of Earl and Frances (Rayburn) Cagle. He had lived the majority of his life in the South Haven area and formerly worked at Pullman Industries. Joe enjoyed doing carpentry, camping, landscaping, riding his quads, and most of all helping others and playing with the kids.
Surviving are his wife, Carla, whom he married Aug. 20, 1988; two sons, Todd Cagle of South Haven, Alex Cagle at home; one grandson, Trey; his mother, Frances Cagle of Bangor; two brothers, Robert (Donna) Cagle of South Haven, Jim (Sandi) Cagle of South Haven; four sisters, Gail Peterson of Bangor, Barbara (Dan) Kelley of Summerfield, Fla., Darcy (Joe) Quinnan of Apopka, Fla., Debbie (Gary) Waite of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Cagle, in 1996.
Shawna Tober
WATERVLIET - Shawna Tober, 21, of Watervliet lost a very courageously fought battle with leukemia on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
As per Shawna's wishes, cremation has already taken place and a celebration of life will be held at her Dad's house on Saturday, July 4. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations be made to the Children's Leukemia Foundation at www.clf4kids.org or National Marrow Donor Program at www.Marrow.org.
Shawna's life began on Sept. 13, 1987, in St. Joseph. She attended Creative Arts Academy in Benton Harbor as well as Watervliet Jr. and Sr. High school where she graduated with honors in 2005, and was currently enrolled with classes at KVCC in Kalamazoo, where after being diagnosed with leukemia changed her major to nursing and planned on becoming a pediatric cancer nurse. Shawna was also employed at Bob Evans in Battle Creek.
From the time Shawna's life began she always seemed to be a bit ahead of the curve, friends and family were always amazed at her level of intelligence and ability to understand as well as maintain adult conversation at a very young age. Shawna started school as well as graduated a year ahead of her age mates. She started dancing with Miss Pat at an early age as well she became accomplished at the violin and then flute, which she carried throughout high school.
Shawna was a member of the Watervliet Marching band and cheerleading squad as well as the color guard. Shawna loved to play softball and dabbled with a basketball and as a diehard LSU fan and Chicago Bears fan she always loved and anticipated football season. Shawna also loved to read, often reading a favorite book 2 or 3 times and said when she purchased her first house she wanted to have accumulated enough books to have her own library.
Larry Michael Prelog
NILES - Larry Michael Prelog, 57, of Niles passed to his rest on June 28, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Pioneer Memorial Church preceded by a visitation at noon with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Friends may also leave messages for the family at www.legacy funeral.com. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery. Legacy Family Funeral Services - Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, Berrien Springs is serving the family.
Larry was born April 14, 1952, in Madison, Tenn., to Zora Belle Meadows Prelog of Paris, Ill., and Michael David Prelog of Youngstown, Ohio. On April 19, 1987, he married Tammy Sammons in Avon Park, Fla. Most recently, Larry had been working as a telephone systems administrator and with TV cables at Andrews University and as a telecommunications technician for Lakeland Regional Health Care System.
Larry was a member of the Niles Seventh-day Adventist Church. His hobbies as a "Mr. Fix-it" man included electronic repairs, car and motorcycle repairs, piloting airplanes, fishing, reading, swimming, scuba diving, astronomy and HAM "KE4PM" mobile monitoring. Larry had been an avid HAM radio operator from his teenage years. Larry's enjoyment of life and HAM radio broadcasting led to his untimely death when a tower he was working on collapsed.
Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Sammons Prelog; two daughters, Mindy (Matt) Bittle of Akron, Ohio, and Melissa (Matt) Kemp of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Larry Michael Grant and Kenneth Ryan, both of Niles; two sisters, Donna (Bob) VanDevander of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Debra (Tom) Candy of Battle Creek, Mich.; two grandsons, Wyatt Bittle and Matthew Kemp; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Zora Belle Prelog and Michael D. Prelog, his sister, Judith Lynn Herzel, and two stillborn infants.
Larry sleeps in the hope of the soon second coming of Christ.
Edna Louise Inman
SOUTH HAVEN - Edna Louise Inman, 95 of South Haven died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Edna was born on Sept. 16, 1913, in Palestine, W.Va., to George W. and Ida (Dawson) Cline.
Edna married Ted Inman on Feb. 28, 1930, in Muskegon, Mich. Along with her husband, Ted, she was a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church in South Haven. Edna helped her husband at their jewelry store, Inman's Jewelry, for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Ted" Inman, who died Oct. 4, 2008, one son, Ted R. Inman, and one brother, Robert Cline.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Shelly) Inman of South Haven; four grandchildren, Diana (Mike) Collins, David Inman, Stacia Goben and David (Kristy) Klock; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Pastors Jeff Malin and Dale Byers officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church.
Irene E. Sprouse
WATERVLIET - Irene E. Sprouse, 93, formerly of Watervliet, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at South Haven Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 13, at the Coloma Bible Church on Wilson Road. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are by the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma.
Irene was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Irwin and Carrie Knott. She married her husband, George Sprouse, in 1953, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1984. They were married for 31 years. She retired from Saluto Foods in 1978 after 10 years of employment. Irene enjoyed sewing, gardening and fishing. She was a Cubs fan. Irene also loved to do quilting with some of her friends, and one of Irene's quilts won 1st place in the Senior Division at the Berrien County Youth Fair. She was an active lady who did not hesitate speaking her mind.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Steven) Wilson of Coloma and Richard (Maria) Sprouse of Sun City, Calif.; her sisters, Wilma Mousel of Eau Claire, Wis., and Joanne Hamilton of Rogers, Ark.; her seven grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Jean Raschke in 2003; two grandsons, Don New and Steven Daniel Cromer; and a brother, Ralph Knott.
Glenda Clark
SISTER LAKES - Glenda Clark, 64, of Sister Lakes, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at Lakeland Hospital after a long, courageous battle with multiple illnesses.
She was born June 30, 1945, in Dyersburg, Tenn., to Lilly and Clarence Rogers. Although Glenda's time with us was cut short, she lived a full life in Tennessee, Texas and Michigan. Her passion for people was reflected in diverse career choices including beautician, interior designer and waitress.
Glenda loved to travel, especially to Cancun. She enjoyed cooking and assembled an impressive collection of cookbooks, cooking gadgets, and apple themed kitchen decor. When not in the kitchen, nothing made her happier than a cup of coffee and her computer games. She held a special affection for the elderly, children and animals, and was a fiercely proud mother and grandmother who never missed an opportunity to share her pride with others.
She is survived by her devoted partner, William "Bill" O'Meara of Sister Lakes; daughters - Cynthia (Bob) Bogner of Baroda and Crystal (Rudy) Romero of Coloma; her beloved granddaughters, Sonya and Hannah; sister, Bonnie (Jerry) Osborne of Dyersburg, Tenn.; sisters-in law - Lorene Rogers of Rensselaer, Ind., Sarah Rogers of Demotte, Ind., and Elaine Rogers of Alamo, Tenn.; brothers-in-law - G.C. Bishop of Bridge City, Texas, and Jerry Castellaw of Friendship, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. Glenda was also close to Bill's family who showed her much support and affection.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters - Rose Campbell, Betty Bishop and Ann Castellaw; and brothers - Glen, Charles and Craig Rogers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma, with Pastor Blair Hayward officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens. Those wishing to make donations in memory of Glenda may do so to Hospice At Home or Berrien County Cancer Service.
