David M. Draper
BRIDGMAN - David Mitchell Draper, 56, of Bridgman, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, at University of Chicago Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, with Deacon Mike Gallagher officiating. Friends may meet with the family on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
David was born Oct. 10, 1952, in St. Joseph, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Mitchell) Draper. He was a 1971 graduate of St. Joseph High School and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Siena Heights University at Lake Michigan College. On March 19, 1988, he married the former Sandra Smith. David worked for AEP for 26 years, leaving in 2006. He enjoyed running and bicycling and was a member of the Berrien County Woodworkers Guild.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Sandra; his son, Andrew Draper of St. Joseph; his brother, Thomas (Cathy) Draper of St. Joseph; a nephew, Sean Draper and family of Arizona; and a niece, Michelle Lindsey and family of Arizona.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Draper and Ruth Draper-Moyer.
Milton Z. Pounders
ST. JOSEPH - Milton Z. Pounders, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home.
Committal services celebrating his life will be held Monday, July 10, at 1 p.m., at Crystal Springs Memorial Park in Benton Harbor. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's research. Services provided by the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service.
Milton was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Franklin County, Ala., to Leonard and Lona Pounders. Milton married Armolean Watkins, and together they had four children. He worked for Whirlpool Corporation for 27 years prior to his retirement. Milton enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the NRA.
Milton is survived by his children - James (Liz) Pounders of Afreda, Ga., Steve (Mary) Pounders of Coloma, Sharon (Tim) Pazder of Buchanan and Kevin (Billie) Pounders of St. Joseph; 13 grandchildren - Eric, Nick, Shannon, Steve, Keith, Robert, Annie, Samantha, Kayla, Jenna, Zach, Jennifer and Chris; and by three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by his wife, Armolean on Jan. 15, 2000.
Emanuel von Koenig
ST. JOSEPH - Emanuel von Koenig, 82, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009, at his home in New Mexico. Manü (Manny), as he was affectionately known by his parents and sister, was born on March 16, 1927 in Munich, Germany to Ludwig and Elisubeth (Jadoul) von Koenig.
Manny immigrated to the United States in 1950 and became a U.S. citizen in 1956. He attended the University of Munich in Germany and earned a bachelor's degree in business science from the University of Minnesota. He was a World War II veteran and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Manny had a 36 year career with Whirlpool which started in the St. Paul Division in 1953. From St. Paul he joined the International Division in 1969. After two years in Brazil as the director of manufacturing at Brastemp, he moved to the Administration Center in 1971, was promoted to manager of licensing services in 1983 and retired as the vice president of Whirlpool do Brasil in 1989.
Manny is survived and missed by his wife of 19 years Judy Von Koenig and her family; four sons from a previous marriage: Doug (Joelene) von Koenig of Stevensville, Jeff (Nancy) von Koenig of Eau Claire, Ed (Lori) von Koenig of Stevensville, and Curt (Karla) von Koenig of St. Joseph. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jonathan, Alex, Sandy, Nick (Melanie), Ben and Elise von Koenig; and great-grandson Josiah von Koenig. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Dr. Wofhilde von Koenig.
Please join the family for a celebration of Manny's life which is being held at the DANK, 2651 Pipestone Road, on July 22, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Miranda Room. Manny donated on a regular basis to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Donald Lee Nickol
WATERVLIET - Donald Lee Nickol, 88, of Watervliet, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Community Hospital, Watervliet.
Donald was born on Nov. 3, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D. He was the son of Charles and Edith (Splinter) Nickol.
Donald served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II.
Donald married the former Shirley Berry on May 7, 1949. She survives, along with three daughters - Sandra (Dan) Nagalski of Warren, Deborah (John) Butcher of Grand Haven, Pamela (Robert) Klein of Hawks; a son, Steven (Jacqui) Nickol of Macomb; and nine grandchildren - Julie, Jessica, Christopher, Christie, Kathleen, Brian, Daniel, Robert and Gregory.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip Nickol.
As per Donald's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Donald's ashes will be placed in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Phillip Washington
BENTON HARBOR - Mr. Phillip Washington was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Osceola, Ark., to the union of George and Meta Washington.
He was employed by Auto Specialties in 1951 and retired after 29 years of service. He was a former member of the Christian Light Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Leonard Robinson.
Mr. Washington was united in holy matrimony to Ella Mae Brooks.
Phillip passed on July 4, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. He leaves precious memories in the hearts of his wife, Ella Mae Washington; three sons, Phillip C. Washington, Holland, Mich., Darryl (Lorraine) Washington, Memphis, Tenn., and Glen Washington, Benton Harbor; four daughters, Erma (L.D.) Kelley, Grand Rapids, Pamela Brooks, Caroline Sanders and Lisa Washington; one sister, Erma Lee Bailey, Tampa Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews, family and friends.
Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gary Washington, two sisters, Mearline Smith and Luella Baker, two brothers, Willie and George Jr. Washington; and one grandson, Glen Washington.
Services will be Monday, July 13, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, visitation at 11 a.m. and service at 12 p.m. Family Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Michael Hinch
DECATUR - Michael Hinch, 67, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at home.
Mike was born Dec. 20, 1941, in Paw Paw, the son of Andrew and Genevieve (Kinney) Hinch. He was owner of Hinch Refrigeration in Decatur for 41 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Shannon (Nick DeMaria) Thomas of Coloma; four sons, Michael James Hinch Jr. of Gautier, Miss., Chris Hinch of Panama City, Fla., James (Sheila) Hinch and Andrew Hinch, both of Decatur; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Andrea Chandler.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday at Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Michael Heflin officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Van Buren County.
A. Duane Knorst
WATERVLIET - A. Duane Knorst, 82, of Watervliet, formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed away July 8, 2009, at the Community Hospital, Watervliet.
Duane's life began Nov. 2, 1926, in Oak Park, Ill. He was born to Arthur and Ruth Knorst, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and immediately joined the United States Navy. After serving his country, Duane attended and graduated from the University of Michigan. Duane spent most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls, with summers at Paw Paw Lake. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Tadmor Temple in Akron. Duane had 32 years of service from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in their International Sales Department. He loved to play golf, boat on Paw Paw Lake, and cheer on the Cubs in his free time. In his later years Duane and his loving wife Winifred, whom he leaves behind, spent their winters in Ocala, Fla., and summers on Paw Paw Lake.
Duane's life will be celebrated Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home, Watervliet, with visitation prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Watervliet Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Duane's memory to Shriner's Hospital.
