Sara VanStrate
Sara Ballou VanStrate, 88, of Spring Lake died Monday, June 7, 1999 at her home.
She was born June 9, 1910 in Spring Lake to Gus and Charlotte (Day) Wilson and married George VanStrate, September 1, 1928 in Spring Lake. They had been married 54 years at the time of his death, Sep. 5, 1982.
Mrs. VanStrate was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of United Methodist Church of the Dunes and a member of the Ladies Guild. She was an avid antique dealer and also enjoyed reading.
Mrs. VanStrate is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Earl) Epplett, Spring Lake; and son, Gene (Violet) VanStrate, Spring Lake; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ann Wilson and Clarice Lincicum both of Spring Lake; and two brothers: Hazen (Jackie) Wilson and Tom (Rose) Wilson both of Spring Lake. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Hial Wilson.

Dorthy DenHerder
Dorthy E. DenHerder, 87, of Nunica died Thursday, May 6, 1999.
She was born Mary 1, 1912 in Conemaugh, Penn. to Harvey and Hazel (Neal) Wright and married Fred DenHerder, Feb. 6, 1943 in Grand Haven. They had been married 53 years at the time of his death, June 17, 1996.
Mrs. DenHerder earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and taught for the Conemaugh, Penn. Public School System until moving to Grand Haven at the time of her marriage.
She was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and was very active with the Mary Free Bed Guild and is remembered for the countless numbers of mittens and sweaters she knitted and donated to help raise funds.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Pat) Dornbos, Muskegon; and son, Jon (Diane) DenHerder, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a grandson, Dan Dornbos.

Ernie Wentzloff
Ernie Wentzloff, 64, of Grand Haven, died Sunday night at his home.

Robert Grindler
Robert C. Grindler, 72, of Holland (formerly Grand Haven) died Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1926 in Bay City to Daniel and Alvina (Mathis) Grindler.
Mr. Grindler served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and married Mary M. Zumbach. His wife preceded him in death, Dec. 29, 1989.
He retired from Consumers Power Company in 1988 after many years of service; and moved to Holland, from Grand Haven, in 1992. He was a member of BPO Elks USA-Holland Lodge #1315, a former member of the Grand Haven Elks, and a member of the Tri-Cities Supervisor Organization. His interests included stamp collecting, card playing, gardening, working on computers, traveling, golfing and watching most sports.
Mr. Grindler is survived by his daughter, Janice M. (Ronald D.) Streng, and son, Robert D. Grindler, both of Holland; three grandchildren: Tamara(Tom) Conrad, Spokane, Wash., Aimee DeJong, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Chad DeJong, Phoenix, Ariz.; 2 two sisters: Alice (Don) Schroeder and Anne Rexer both of Bay City; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret O'Farrell, and brother, Arthur Grindler.
There will be no service or visitation. Those desiring a memorial are
asked to consider American Cancer Society, research.

Ryan Paul Shepard
Ryan Paul Shepard, 21, of Norton Shores died Friday, April 30, 1999 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born Sept. 19, 1977 in Muskegon to Brent A. and Brenda L. (Bowman) Shepard and was a lifelong resident of Norton Shores. Ryan attended Hile School and graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1997. He was employed by Fisher Builders and Herald's Towing Service. He played baseball, starting out in Pee Wee's and played into his high school years and was on the wrestling team. His interests included music, hunting, working on his car and motorcycle and spending time with his friends.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Brenda (Joe) Jackson, Norton Shores; father, Brent (MaryLou) Shepard, Nunica; brothers, Adam (Donna) Shepard, Cloverville, Zachary Jackson, at home; sisters, Dana and Lindsay Shepard, Nunica; grandmother, Mary Ann Bowman, Muskegon; grandparents, Joe and Louise Jackson, Muskegon; nephews and niece, Jonathan Shepard, Karley Briggs; aunts and uncles, Linda and Charles Cihak, Sherri Bowman, John "Jay" Rogan, Jan and Ernie Whitlow, Sharon Shepard, Ken Shepard, Cricket and Paul Livers, Peggy Shepard; great-aunts and uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Walter and Elaine Shepard, and Ellis "Al" Bowman.

Henry Roossien
Henry W. Roossien, 89, Grand Haven died Monday, June 7, 1999 at his home.
He was born March 4, 1910 in Grand Haven to Harm and Emma (Koats) Roossien and married Henrietta Baker in 1941. They had been married 45 years at the time of her death in 1986.
Mr. Roossien was a lifelong area resident and worked for Gardner-Denver 32 years, retiring in 1975.
He is survived by a daughter, June Roossien, Grand Haven; two sons, Jack Roossien, Grand Haven, and Robert (Nancy) Roossien, Humble, Texas; a granddaughter, Robin Renee Roossien, and a sister-in-law, Ruth (Bryce) Gimmel, Holland.

Louise Warnke
Louise Mae Warnke, 83, of Spring Lake died Friday, June 4, 1999 at a local nursing home.
She was born March 10, 1916 in Grand Rapids to Dick and Grace (Walthouse) Draft and was married to Walter F. Warnke in 1938 at Allendale. Mrs. Warnke was an area resident most of her life.
She is survived by her husband Walter and a son, Jerry (Therese) Warnke of Odessa, Fla. and two grandchildren. Also a brother Howard (Wilma) Draft of Spring Lake.
She was preceded in death by a brother Lawrance.

The Memorial Service for Mrs. Louise Warnke was held today at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church. Interment will be in the Ottawa Center Cemetery. Memorials to a charity of choice are appreciated.
Edward Tokarczyk
Edward Joseph Tokarczyk, 79, of Fruitport died June 19, 1999.
He was born Feb. 7, 1920 in Cook County, Chicago, Ill. to Thomas and Anna (Majsterkirvicz) Tokarczyk. On May 4, 1944 he married Jacqueline Marie VerPlank of Spring Lake. They had been married 55 years at the time of her death, June 3, 1992.
Mr. Tokarczyk was a skilled tool and die maker, and master carpenter. He enjoyed tailoring, bird watching and gardening. Mr. Tokarcyzk was employed by Anderson Bolling, Brunswick and Hayworth Corp.
Survivors include his children, Judy Gardner, Fruitport; Jack (Corky) Tokarczyk, Grand Rapids; Sharon (Michael) Geistel, Spring Lake; Craig (Charlene) Tokarczyk, Fruitport; Anita (Craig) Orquist, Norton Shores, and Linda Tokarczyk, Fruitport; eight grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Irene Brown, Mary (Charles) Vogler, Grand Haven; Kasmer (Cassie) Tokarczyk; Joseph Tokarczyk and Chester Tokarczyk, Muskegon.

Herbert Schout
Herbert Schout, 87, of Coopersville died Sunday, June 20, 1999.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace in 1997.
He is survived by his family; Arlyn and Betty Schout, Shirley and Garth Fynewever, Linda and John De Young, Judy and Ray Gort all of Coopersville; 17 grandchildren, one great great grandson; brother, Preston (Helen) Schout of Allendale, sister, Jo (June) Glass of Borculo; brother and sister-in-law John and Minnie Stroven, also several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Herbert Schout will be held on Wednesday June 23, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Coopersville Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in the Coopersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.Tuesday at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville one hour prior to time of services Wednesday morning at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coopersville Association for Christian Education.
