Milford A. 'Bibb' Ott
STEVENSVILLE - Milford A. "Bibb" Ott, 82, of Stevensville passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Jordan's Nursing Home in Bridgman.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville, with the Rev. Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Stevensville American Legion Post 568. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevensville or Hospice at Home.
Mr. Ott was born March 8, 1927, in Bridgman to Albert and Mildred (Hemming) Ott. On June 22, 1957, he married the former Dorothy Horton in Benton Harbor. Milford served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1987 after 40 years of employment. Milford enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring and working on his Model A Fords, and helping his nephew on his farm. He was a member of the Stevensville American Legion Post 568.
Milford is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, David (Gabriele) Ott of Schlitz, Germany; three grandchildren, Marlene Wetch, Steven Ott and Lara Ott; his sister, Jeanette Ott of St. Joseph; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Ott on June 12, 2002.
Jean A. Mosley
SOUTH HAVEN - Jean A. Mosley, 76, of South Haven went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Sept.12, 2009, at her home.
She was born May 15, 1933, in Chicago to LaVelle and Willire (Ellington) Neal. Jean graduated from Covert High School in 1951. Jean married Ernest C. Mosley Sr. on April 29, 1951, in Hartford. Jean was always very active in the community. At one time she was the park director for Elkenburg Park and served on South Haven's Housing Commission. Jean had been a teacher's aide at Central Elementary School. Jean has also worked at different manufacturing jobs in South Haven. Her last employment was with Do It Corporation where she worked for eight years, retiring in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Mosley Sr., in 2001; three sons, Curtis, Dennis and Ernest C. Mosley Jr.; and her brother, LaVelle Neal Jr.
She is survived by one son, Darryl (Rebecca) Mosley of South Haven, four daughters, Doretha (Joe) Ardoin of Grand Rapids, Tracy (John) DeFrance of Atlanta, Donna (Glenn) Ford of Grand Rapids and Natalie (Steven) Cole of Zeeland, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Ollietha Mosley of South Haven; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Jordan of Chicago, Arlene Maddox of Fresno, Calif., Loretta Grier of Sacramento, Calif., and Patricia Whitfield of Ann Arbor; and one brother, Clarence Neal of Phoenix.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept.17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lee Township Cemetery in Pullman.
Alice M. LaBrecque
THREE OAKS - Alice M. LaBrecque, 86, of Canton, Mich., formerly of Three Oaks, died Sept. 14, 2009.
Beloved wife of the late Donald J. Loving mother of Donna (Mark) Duke, Leslie (Norman) Erickson, Jeannie and the late Shirley. Dearest grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 10.
Visitation today, Sept. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren (W of Sheldon), Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
Edythe Mable Ransom
SOUTH HAVEN - Edythe Mable Ransom, 91, of South Haven died Sunday, Sept.13, 2009, at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven.
She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in South Haven to Benjamin and Hazel (Norman) Parrish. Edythe married Clinton Boyde Ransom on Jan. 31, 1937, in Plymouth, Ind. Edythe loved to bird watch and enjoyed embroidering when she was able. She loved God - he was the number one thing in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C. Ransom, who died in 1993; and one sister, Dorothy Clark.
She is survived by two sons, Brent (Mavis) Ransom of St. Paul, Minn., and Dwight (Marsha) Ransom of South Haven; three daughters, Bonnie (David) Wilson of Goshen, Ind., Janice (Robert) Brown of Kalamazoo and Karen (Les) Dalrymple; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Radtke of South Haven.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.16, at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in McDowell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to South Haven's Hospice at Home.
Sylvester 'Sly' Krueger
DECATUR - Sylvester Ignatius "Sly" Krueger, 86, of Decatur passed away Sunday, Sept.13, 2009, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Sylvester was born May 11, 1923, in Cicero, Ill., the son of Ignatius and Helen (Witkowski) Krueger. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He came to Decatur in 1950, where he has farmed for several years. Sly was a lifetime member of the Decatur VFW Post 6248.
Survivors include a son, Gary (Nancy) of Decatur; two granddaughters, Ashley and Abbey of Decatur; three brothers, Ignatius of Decatur, Arthur (Kay) of Green Bay, Wis., and Robert (Marcia) of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; his parents; and a brother, Stanley.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept.17, at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, with James Abshagen officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans.
Dovie Mae Burbach
BENTON HARBOR - Dovie Mae (Lawson) Burbach, 92, of Benton Harbor went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at her home. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept.17, at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 245 W. Napier, Benton Harbor. Mausoleum entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.
Dovie was born on May 14, 1917, in Henrietta, Texas, to William and Lillian (Fields) Lawson. Dovie married Fredrick Burbach on June 6, 1942, in Walter, Okla., while he was stationed at Shepherds Field in Wichita Falls, Texas, serving our country during World War II. They made their home in Benton Harbor and started their electrical business, Burbach Electric, in 1946, where she worked in the office. She also enjoyed serving people in the retail business and worked at both Sears and J. C. Penney Co.
She loved to entertain; family and friends were always welcome in her home. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, sewing, and had a love for flowers, gardening, birds and the beauty of God's creation. Dovie loved teaching Sunday school; she taught the third grade girls class for more than 30 years. She was a member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church for 62 years. She was also active in their Women's Missionary Society, holding many offices.
Dovie is survived by her husband, Fred, and their daughter, Joy (Russ) Reschke of Benton Harbor. She is survived by three grandchildren, Brent (Jenefer) Reschke of Benton Harbor, Heather (Danny) Austin of Denver and Blake (Pollyanna) Reschke of Austin, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Estella Reschke. Dovie is also survived by her sister, Lorena Thomas, and her two brothers, William and Isaac Lawson, all residing in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian; two sisters, Mary Cloud and Frances Lawson; and five brothers, Everit, Orvil, Elmo, Arnold and Lester Lawson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Napier Parkview Baptist Church.
Daisy Jean Erwin
BENTON HARBOR - Daisy Jean Erwin, 79, passed away Sunday morning, Sept.13, 2009, at her home.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Services, 1053 E. Napier, Benton Harbor, with Pastor Marlo Fritzke officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society or to Hospice at Home.
Daisy Jean was born May 26, 1930, in Benton Harbor. She was one of three children born to Ernest and Rose Emma Hacker. On Feb. 2, 1952, Daisy Jean married Gerald Edward Erwin, and together they had six children.
She worked at Teledyne Peer and Robert Hall Clothing, and most recently was a bookkeeper for H & R Block. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing ceramics. Daisy Jean was an avid NASCAR fan. Most of all, Daisy Jean will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Daisy Jean "loved children and was considered to be a mother to many."
Daisy Jean is survived by her children, Devan (Karen) Erwin of Benton Harbor, Deborah (Carl) Slavings of Caufield, Mo., Gary Lee (Jane) Erwin of Worton, Ill., Jane (Mark) Wahl of Anna, Ohio, Gail Erwin of Adrian, Mich., and Gwinn (Marc) Skidmore of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Wendy (John), Gerald "Jerry" (Cari), Christopher (Sherrie), Gary Jr., Andrew, Andrea, Matthew, Joshua (Jewel), Donald, Nathan, Rebecca (Michael), Jeremiah and Sarah; 14 great-grandchildren; and by her special friend, Lynne Thompson.
In addition to her parents, Daisy Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and by her brothers, La Moyne "Bub" and Daniel Ray "Pat" Hacker.
