Dimpsy Lee (Garrett) Posey
BENTON HARBOR - Dimpsy Lee (Garrett) Posey was born Sep. 24, 1939, in Franklinton, La., to the union of Purvis and Mamie B. Garrett.
She worked for the Benton Harbor Area Schools food service program until Dec. 18, 2009.
She was a member of Golden Light Baptist Church.
Dimpsy passed at home in the presence of her family on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
She left precious memories in the hearts of her husband, McNeal Posey; her mother, Mamie B. Garret; four sons - Craig (Rhonda) Posey, Alfonso Posey, McNeal (Deborah) Posey Jr. and Ronnie (Tracey) Posey; three daughters - Willie M. Posey, Diane Adams and Glenda Kay Bell; one sister, Maxisure Garrett; two brothers - Eulice (Carolyn) Garrett and Ulysees Garrett; one goddaughter, J'Nai Garrett; 20 grandchildren; 22 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Dimpsy was preceded in death by her father, Purvis Garrett; one daughter, Yvette Burkalter; and one grandson, Delronn Adams.
Services will be Monday, Feb. 15, at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with family hour at 11 a.m. and service at noon.
Interment will be at Folsom Community Cemetery, in Folsom, La., on Thursday, Feb. 18.
Family Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert V. Wells
BENTON HARBOR - Robert V. "Nitro" Wells, 80, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away Feb. 6, 2010, in Zephyrhills.
He was born July 20, 1929, in Rock Island, Ill., to Victor and Hazel (Ferry) Wells.
Mr. Wells was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Sea Bees.
After returning home, he married his life-long partner, Marilyn J. (Hendrix) in 1951.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1137.
Robert retired from Whirlpool as a lift-truck driver in 1985.
In 1986, he began spending the winter months in Zephyrhills with his wife, Marilyn.
He loved to sing and play country music with his band "The Cellar Dwellers" (Michigan) and "Wee Three" (Florida).
He was also an avid horseshoe player known to many as Nitro.
For many years, Oak Shores Campground in Decatur was his summer home, where he will be missed by all, especially his family who enjoyed coming to camp and visit on the weekends.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn J. Wells of Zephyrhills; three sons, James Wells of Zephyrhills, Douglas (Deb) Wells of Benton Harbor, Michael (Barb) of Zephyrills; a daughter, Bonnie Brunson (Wells) of St. Joseph; a brother, Dan Wells of Niles; and a sister, Marsha Stillwell of Watervliet; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Cremation has taken place. Whitfield Funeral Home, Zephyrhills, in charge of arrangements.
Lee Ann Bartolucci
CALEDONIA, Mich. - Lee Ann Bartolucci departed this earth on Feb. 9, 2010, to join our Lord and previously passed loved ones.
Lee Ann was a caring and loving wife and mother who touched the hearts and lives of all those she came in contact with.
Despite a short 47 years of life, Lee Ann had a long list of achievements and met every goal she took on.
She was a very successful businesswoman who sacrificed her career to spend more time taking care of her family, a task which she selflessly pursued with the same vigor as her career and excelled at in the same fashion.
In addition to her intelligence, Lee Ann was also well known for her humor and wit.
She especially enjoyed visiting the lake cottage, where she enjoyed pontoon boat cruises and admiring the beauty of the lake from the porch.
Lee Ann was preceded in death by her father, Richard Servais of Augusta, Ga., and is survived by her husband, Dino, and 10-year old son Anthony of Caledonia; her mother and stepfather, Esther and George Dunaway of Augusta, Ga.; and her brother, Richard Servais of Sumter, S.C.
She leaves behind extended family members including nieces, Rachel and Rebecca Jacobs, and mother-in-law, Shirley Bartolucci, as well as a multitude of other relatives and friends who both loved and admired her.
Memorial services will be held on Feb. 18 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Caledonia, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services immediately following at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Lee Ann would have wanted any donations to go towards your charity of choice in her honor.
Joan D. Priebe
BENTON HARBOR - Joan "Joanie" D. Priebe, 67, of Benton Harbor went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at her home.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Crystal Springs Church of God, 1465 Pipestone St., Benton Harbor.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crystal Springs Church of God.
Joanie was born on Dec. 15, 1942, in Benton Harbor to Lewis and Dorothy (Hanes) Kiessling.
She later married Marvin Priebe on June 12, 1982, in Sodus.
Joanie is survived by her husband, Marvin, of Benton Harbor; her mother, Dorothy Hanes of St. Joseph; and her two sons, Alan Zachary of St. Joseph and Andrew (Linda) Zachary of Stevensville.
She is also survived by her three stepchildren, Douglas (Tonya) Priebe of Coloma, Terri (Dan) Ward of Hemstead, Texas, and Tamara Sperry of Franklin, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis; a brother, Donald Kiessling; and a son-in-law, Chris Sperry.
Donald Brewer
NILES - Donald Brewer, 77, of Niles, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and cherished friend, went home to meet the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at his home in Niles.
Don was born May 2, 1932, in Decatur to Robert and Helen Brewer.
On June 28, 1950, in Dowagiac, he married Doris Sandberg.
They have lived in the area since 1951.
Don was a member of Portage Road General Baptist Church in Niles.
Prior to Portage Road General Baptist, he was a member for 25 years at Bethel Baptist Church in Niles.
He was a salesman for 32 years, working for G&M; Appliances in Niles, Great Northern Distributors in South Bend and McGranahan Distributors in Toledo, Ohio.
He was involved with Habitat for Humanity and the Old Rugged Cross Foundation, drove for Dial-A-Ride, volunteered his time with the Salvation Army and Haunted House, and also worked with veterans.
He and Doris also sponsored eight foreign exchange students from Brazil, Poland, Russia and France.
Don loved to travel all over the world with his wife, Doris.
Don was a people person, a hand shaker with anyone he came in contact with.
He was a very kind and generous man.
He will be very much missed by his family and friends.
Surviving family includes his wife of 59 years, Doris; one son, Donald Allen Brewer; two daughters, Cheryl Brewer (Johnny) Solomon and Peggy Sue (Dan) Hamilton; eight grandchildren - Pedro John Rodriguez, Donald Allen (Joanne) Rodriguez, Melissa Sue (Mike) Hamilton, Justin Allen Brewer, Travis Allen (Shana) Brewer, Eric David Hamilton, Emily Ann Hamilton and Alexandria Chenez Brewer; eight great-grandchildren - Byron Allen Rodriguez, Olivia Nicole Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez, Destiny Bennett, Madeline Sue Young, Montgomery Shawn Young, Jaiden LeeAnn Hamilton and Ryan Rodriguez; two brothers, Harvey Brewer and Edward Brewer; one sister, Lydia Sherburn; many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a large extended family and many close friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Brewer of Decatur; four brothers - Kenneth, Elmer, Robert and Rolland Brewer; and a grandson, Raymond Robert Brewer of Niles.
Funeral services for Don will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 18, at Portage Road General Baptist Church, 1765 Portage Road, Niles, with Pastor Allan Poage officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
