Michael J. White
SOUTH BEND -- Michael J. White, 46, of South Bend, died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001.
A memorial celebration of Michael's life will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 17 at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend. There will be no visitation and cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County.
Michael was born March 21, 1955, in South Bend, to Ann Lippincott and the late Honorable William S. White. He married Alnetta Levy on Aug. 22, 1998. Michael worked as a juvenile officer for the Berrien County Juvenile Center as a youth specialist for the past 14 years. He graduated from Lake Forest Academy and attended Hillsdale College and Western Michigan University. Michael was a founding member and Captain of the "Walloonie Pirate Association". He was a devoted family man and a respected model for the area's troubled youth. He was loved by family, who will miss him.
Survivors include: his wife; three step-children; seven step-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Stuart White of Brighton, Mich.; two brothers -- Stuart Woodward White of Lansing and Stanley Lippincott White of Indianapolis; three nieces -- Kristen, Kathleen and Samantha.
Ola Mae Gray
BENTON HARBOR -- Ola Mae Gray, 84, formerly of Benton Harbor, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 5, at Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, Benton Harbor, where visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to noon Friday. Arrangements are by Fairplain Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, Benton Harbor. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Gray was born May 31, 1917, in Pheba, Miss. She had lived in this community since 1982. Mrs. Gray was retired from the Detroit Public Schools. She was a member of the Highland Seventh-day Adventist Church, Benton Harbor.
Survivors include: one son, Dr. Lynn (Dr. Deborah) Gray of Berrien Springs; four grandchildren -- George (Ayana) Gray of Detroit, Stephen (Jamie) Gray of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jennifer and Matthew Gray, both of Berrien Springs.
Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband, George, on May 20, 1997; and by one son, George Jr., on July 6, 1981.
Glen Arter
STEVENSVILLE - Glen Arter, 95, of Stevensville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.
A private family memorial service will be held Monday. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rick Hathcock Scholarship Fund, in care of Carol Wroblewski at Lakeshore High School, Stevensville.
Glen came on this earth July 15, 1904. On March 23, 1926, he married Bertha Shingledecker in South Bend, Ind. She preceded him in death Sept. 2, 1998. They raised three children, who survive them, Glenn Arter Jr. of Stevensville, Elizabeth (Chris) Krziza of Carlsbad, Calif., and Deatra (Ron) Hathcock of Stevensville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter-in-law, Nancy Arter, August 1998; and a grandson, Rick Hathcock, March 1986.
Glen witnessed two World Wars and three major conflicts. He survived the killer influenza outbreak of 1918, and the Great Depression. He was an avid ice fisherman and hunter. He worked 40 years for the Studebaker Corporation, where he helped form the workers union and held card No., in that union. Later in his life he reminisced about having seen Buffalo Bill Cody and his sideshow in Dowagiac. He had a full and rich life and will be greatly missed.
Deborah Ann Jackson
BERRIEN CENTER - Deborah Ann Jackson, 42, of Berrien Center, died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Dr. Ron P. Baker of Berrien Center Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
She was born June 21, 1957, in Niles, to Sylvia (Schadler) and Gale Stiles, and had lived most of her lifetime in this area. She was an office nurse for Dr. Ron P. Baker at Southwestern Medical Clinic, Berrien Center. She graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1975, and she received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1989, from Southwestern Michigan College. Mrs. Jackson also was a sales representative for Home Interiors.
Survivors include: a son, Michael Carl Jackson of Berrien Center; daughter, Christina Ann Jackson of Eau Claire; her mother, Sylvia Stiles of Berrien Center; a brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Keith Stiles of Berrien Springs.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gale Stiles, March 18, 1998.
Marcus A. McLauchlin
BERRIEN SPRINGS - Marcus A. McLauchlin, 89, of Berrien Springs, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the Berrien Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Berrien Springs United Methodist Church Fellowship Room. The family wishes memorials be made to the church. The Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mr. McLauchlin was born March 29, 1911, in Cassopolis to Albert and Emily Elizabeth Bartholomew McLauchlin. He had resided here since 1930, coming from Marcellus. Mr. McLauchlin established the McLauchlin Funeral Home in Berrien Springs in 1939 and operated it with his wife, Viletta, until 1975 when he retired. He was a charter member of the Order of the Rose, Berrien Springs-Eau Claire Rotary Club and had received the highest award, the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also a past member of the Berrien Springs Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star, a graduate of Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science in Detroit and was an active man in his community and his church. He will be missed by all.
On July 30, 1933, Marcus married Viletta Hoadley and she preceded him in death on April 1, 1993. He married Dorothy Stanton Mead on Sept. 10, 1994, in Berrien Springs and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters - Janet McLauchlin of Berrien Springs, Sylvia (Gary) Wallace of Berrien Springs, Jane (Tom) Acomb of Laguna Niguel, Calif. and Sally (Mike) Gaishin of St. Joseph; three sons - Howard (Jacquelyn) McLauchlin of Berrien Springs, Tom (Linda) Mead of Traverse City, and Richard (Rosemary) Mead of Willow Park, Texas; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence McLauchlin of Grand Haven. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerrold; a daughter, Jean; and four brothers - Ellery, Lemi, Myron and Glenn McLauchlin.
Andrew Thomas "Andy' Warren
Arvada, Colo. - Andy Warren, 13, of Arvada, Colo., died June 2, 2000, at his home in Arvada.
Funeral services were held June 8, at Olinger's Wadsworth Chapel in Lakewood, Colo. Pastor Joe D. Mayes of Foothills Community Church, where the family attended, officiated.
Andy was born Sept. 28, 1986, in Wheatridge, Colo. He was vice president of Fremont Student Council, in honors classes at Oberon Middle School, had played on the Arvada United Soccer team and also the Oberon Basketball team in 7th grade. Andy made everyone who knew him smile and he will be missed so very much by so many.
He is survived by his mother, Deborah Butler Kammer; stepfather, James A. Kammer; sister, Ali Nicole Warren; brother, Logan Butler Warren; father and wife Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence J. Warren; stepbrother, Patrick King; stepsister, Jennifer King; and both sets of grandparents, Julian J. and Dottie Warren of Burlington, Wis., and J. Thomas and Barbara Butler of St. Joseph.

Reva M. Goetz
NEW CARLISLE, Ind. - Reva M. Goetz, 88, of Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000.
Mrs. Goetz had been a homemaker in Clinton Township near Wanatah and was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Wanatah.
She was born July 27, 1912, in Westville, Ind., to Herbert and Ada (Smith) Cathcart. On Jan. 23, 1932, in Crown Point, Ind., she married George E. Goetz, who passed away Jan. 27, 1969. After her husband passed away, she moved to Michigan for 15 years, before returning to Indiana.
Survivors include: a son, Donald (Betty J.) Goetz of Stevensville; two daughters - Joyce (Craig) Deardorff of Westville, and Georgia (Ralph) Forsyth of Whitmore Lake, Mich.; six grandchildren; one foster grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Betty (Robert) Tiedeman of Michigan City, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son; her parents; two sisters and two brothers; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Craig Forwalter officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery of Wanatah. Memorials may be given to Salem United Church of Christ, 302 S. Main St., Wanatah, Ind. 46390. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 219-733-2313.
