Colleen Sellers Wheat

BRANDON, Miss. - Colleen Sellers Wheat, 50, of Brandon, Miss., died Friday morning, June 15, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson, Miss.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, followed with an 11 a.m. funeral service at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Brandon. Mark Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Freedonia Cemetery in Bald Knob, Ark., with Powell Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Mrs. Wheat, daughter of Floyd and Ruth Betts Sellers, was born in St. Joseph. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and Northeast Mississippi Junior College in Booneville, Miss. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, active in Abigail Circle, and "On the Lamb" Sunday School Class. She enjoyed oil painting, piano playing, and many family and church activities.

Husband, John Wheat of Brandon; daughter, Megan Wheat of Brandon; parents, Floyd and Ruth Betts Sellers of Benton Harbor; sisters - Jeanette Holloway (Elton) of Ridgeland, Miss.; Lydia Tabbey (Mike) of St. Joseph; a brother, Raymond Sellers (Sue) of Franklin, Wis.; three nieces and two nephews survive her.

Carolyn June Iler

ST. JOSEPH -- Carolyn June Iler, 80, of St. Joseph, formerly of California, died April 15, 2002, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Kerley & Starks Funeral Home, 802 Main St., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the family. Burial of cremains will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Calumet Park, Ill.

Mrs. Iler was born June 16, 1921, to Luther and Mary Margaret (Wilson) McGath in Rogan, Ind. Mrs. Iler was a marketing representative in the pharmaceutical industry.

She is survived by two daughters, Caroll Iler of St. Joseph and Marlene (Tony) Ludwig of San Clemente, Calif. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Bitters in 1968 and her second husband, John Iler in 1996; her brothers, Clair McGath, Robert McGath and William McGath; and a sister, Katherine Hashey.

She nurtured and loved both her family and her garden.

Harry A. Olson

HARBERT - Harry A. Olson, 96, of Harbert, died Friday morning, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Harbert Community Church, Harbert, with the Rev. Nathan Pawl officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Chikaming Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pobocik Funeral Home Connelly-Noble Chapel, Three Oaks, where a Masonic Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the River Valley Senior Center or to Harbert Community Church.

Mr. Olson was born Dec. 8, 1902, in the Pullman area of Chicago. He had been a resident of the Sawyer area for the past 92 years and always enjoyed sharing the history of Chikaming Township with others. On Sept. 19, 1934, he married Evelyn Seeder at their home in Harbert. Mr. Olson owned and operated the Olson Grocery Store in Sawyer for many years, and later was employed by Auto Specialties, St. Joseph, until his retirement. He was a dedicated employee, never missing a day of work, and never late for work, even after a mowing accident severed several of his toes. Mr. Olson was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 541, St. Joseph; a member of the Three Oaks F and AM No. 239 for over 73 years; and a member of Harbert Community Church. He enjoyed baseball and had managed the Sawyer Aces Baseball Team years ago. Mr. Olson loved nature and the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, gardening and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Olson of Harbert; sons - Harry (Lynda) Olson of Sawyer, and Jerry (Linda) Olson of Harbert; grandchildren - Carlton (Meagan) Olson of Harbert, and Robin (Don) Ennesser of Sister Lakes; great-grandchildren - Lexie, Annie, Reed, Lindsey and D.J.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Olson was preceded in death by his parents; and by brothers - John, Ray and Axner.

Mary Weber Metz

BERRIEN SPRINGS - Mary Weber Metz, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at The Old Farm Living Center, Berrien Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Berrien Springs. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran School for the Deaf or Hospice Services at Borgess Health Alliance.

The family would like to thank Patty Case and the staff at Old Farm Living Center and Borgess Health Alliance/Hospice services for the loving care they gave to their mother during her time of personal need and sickness.

Mary, a former Miss Baroda Blossom Queen, was born Oct. 23, 1914, to Henry and Barbara (Herman) Weber in Baroda. She resided most of her life in the Berrien Springs area. Mary's employment at Schug Drug Store and volunteering at Lakeland Specialty Hospital were among her long-time favorite activities.

Survivors include: three sons - Dennis (Lyla) of St. Joseph, Michael (Kathy) of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Craig (Tammy) of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Pamela (John) Bermen of Sandy, Utah; five grandchildren - Dennis Jr. (Brenda) of Hudsonville, Brent (Gwynne) of Philadelphia, Parry (Laurie) of Porter, Ind., Kristin and Katie of Raleigh; three step-grandchildren - Wade Weston (Tracy) of McHenry, Ill., Lisa (Mark) Treiber of Auburn, Mich. and Tamara Ball of Asheville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren - Kyle, Kelcie, Kaley and Lennon; four step-great-grandchildren - Aaron, Andrew and Sarah Treiber and Dylan Weston; a brother, Henry Weber Jr. of Baroda; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Metz, a son and sisters - Millie, Elizabeth, Christina and Molly.

Betty J. Craig

NILES - Betty J. Craig, 68, of Niles died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Robert M. Zagore of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles officiating. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Craig was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Baroda, to Reinhold and Bertha (Kriseine) Shafer, and lived in Niles since 1991, coming from Millburg. She was an employee of Revco Drug Store many years ago. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles, and a former longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph. She enjoyed reading books.

On July 1, 1961, in St. Joseph, she married Fred H. Craig, who survives. Also surviving: four daughters - Renee (Rodger) Holston and Rhonda (Kenny) Thompson, both of Niles, Kathy (Chuck) Angelo of Hagar Shores and Diane (Art) Smith of Allegan; sons - Joe (Brenda) Bryan of Sister Lakes, Larry Bryan, Larry (Andrea) Craig of Benton Harbor; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters - Helen Skrme of Holiday, Fla., Evelyn Humphrey of Conroe, Texas, and Marge Hein of Florida; and a brother, Larry Schadler of Fort Myers, Fla.

She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Bernard "B.J." Phillips

BENTON HARBOR - Bernard "B.J." Phillips, 27, of Benton Harbor died June 11, 2000.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at New Bethel Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, where visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Sodus Township. Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phillips was born Jan. 4, 1973, in Detroit. He formerly was employed as a heavy equipment operator for C&D; Asphalt Co. He was a member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Benton Harbor.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, the Rev. Walter Brown; and his father, John Rufus Smith.

Survivors include: his mother, Shirley Phillips of Benton Harbor; stepfather, Carl Perkins of Benton Harbor; sons - Kylon Keion Phillips of Benton Harbor and Camaray Harris of Virginia; daughter, Sierra Berna Phillips of Benton Harbor; grandparents, Mary Brown of Benton Harbor and Issac and Laura Perkins of Ridgeway, Va.; brothers - Elder Alton (Carol) Phillips Sr. and Carl Phillips, both of Benton Harbor; sister - Yvonne Phillips of Benton Harbor; aunts - Mary Ann Anderson of Sodus and Rosa Atterberry of Niles; uncle, Clyde Woodworth of Sodus; niece, Brittany Phillips of Benton Harbor; nephews - Alton Phillips Jr. and Jordan Phillips, both of Benton Harbor; host of cousins, other relatives and friends; and longtime special friends - Trina Harris of Virginia and Andrea Nicole Hairston of Benton Harbor.

Maxwell Brott

WATERVLIET - Maxwell Brott, 79, of Watervliet died Aug. 13, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Watervliet Free Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hutchins Funeral Home, Watervliet. Burial will be in Watervliet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

Mr. Brott was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Grand Rapids. He was employed as a custodian at Watervliet High School for 29 years. He was a member of Watervliet Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Florine; a sister-in-law, Erma Brott of Grand Rapids; nephew, Jack Brott of Jenison, Mich.; niece, Patricia Langerhorst of Alta, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Charles Frazier, Bruce (Geraldine) Frazier, Arvid (Henrietta) Frazier, Wilson (Beverly) Frazier and Vitas (Pat) Frazier; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Howard) Mundt, Nadell (Lester) Mundt and Lillian (John) Crumb; and many nieces and nephews in Watervliet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Leola (Pierce) Brott; and two brothers - Alfred and Jewell Brott.

Clarence J. Holloway Jr.

BENTON HARBOR - Clarence J. Holloway Jr., 52, of Benton Harbor, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Second Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, where visitation will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 21, 1948, in Blytheville, Ark., to the union of Clarence Holloway Sr. and Martha (Young) Holloway. Clarence Jr. was a member of the Straight Gate Pentecostal Power Church, Benton Harbor.

He was formerly employed by the Whirlpool Corporation for 22 years. He was a 1967 graduate of Benton Harbor High School and also attended Lake Michigan College.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Holloway of Benton Harbor; sisters - Magdelene (Earl) Smith, Willa (Jerry) Coleman, Annette Holloway, Nina Holloway and Linda (Carl) Kelly, all of Benton Harbor, Dorothy (Eddie) Jones of Covert and Theresa A. Holloway of Benton Harbor; brothers - Johnny (Sharon) Holloway, Charles Holloway, George Holloway and Tommie (Terry) Holloway, all of Benton Harbor; special aunts - Evelyn (Charles) Hill, Mandy Nash and Mary Williams; an uncle, Jerry Young; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Clarence Holloway Sr., in 1993.
