Joseph F. 'Sonny' Sliwa
STEVENSVILLE -- Joseph F. "Sonny" Sliwa, 75, of Stevensville, formerly of Michigan City, died Jan. 30, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CST Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, with the Rev. John Hogan officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. CST Monday, and 1 to 2 p.m. CST Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place Feb. 3 in the Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Berrien Co., Stevensville.
Mr. Sliwa was born March 19, 1928, in Michigan City to Valentine and Julia (Biernacki) Sliwa. He married Dona Moreland in Kalamazoo on June 26, 1971. He worked for his father, W. Sliwa, at the Grocery and Meat Market, Michigan City; then in 1970 he opened Joe's Shady Oaks Meat Market, Bridgman. He moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., where he worked in the Florida state prison system, returning in 1993 to the Bridgman area, where he then worked for Harding's Grocery and Meat Market. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 0225 Stevensville.
He is survived by his daughters -- Kim (Scott) Ashbaugh of Portage, Mich.; Debra Boehm of Florida; and Suzzane Neils of North Carolina; stepdaughters -- Maureen Grall of Stevensville, Mary Phares of Florida and Eileen (John) Schultz of St. Joseph; stepsons -- John Moreland of Indianapolis, Joseph Moreland of Florida, Thomas Moreland of Georgia and William (Debbie) Moreland of Chicago; sisters -- Helen Heuer and Jeanette King, both of Michigan City; brother, Edward (Joan) Sliwa of Michigan City; a sister-in-law, Jean Sliwa; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nephews and nieces.
Mr. Sliwa was preceded in death by his wife, Dona, in 1995; father and mother, Valentine and Julia Sliwa; sisters, Sophia Pahs and Catherine Keen; and brothers, Stanley and Valentine Sliwa.
Charles Renard Wysinger
BENTON HARBOR -- Charles Renard Wysinger, 50, of Benton Harbor died Jan. 26, 2004, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, with Pastor Steve Wooden officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m until the time of services. Burial will take place in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor.
Mr. Wysinger was born Feb. 21, 1953 in Benton Harbor. He was a life time resident and worked as a factory laborer at Whirlpool Corp.
Charles is survived by his mother, Geneva Wysinger of Benton Harbor; a special friend, Shari Lynn Lusk of Benton Harbor; son, Charles Renard (Tamara) Wysinger, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepson, Darrell Ledon (Syreeta) Lusk of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Charniesea De'Shell Lusk of Benton Harbor; brothers -- George (Ernestine), Larry, William and Ricky all of Benton Harbor; and Kenneth (Sharon) Wysinger of Kalamazoo; sisters -- Virginia (Elton) Bledsoe, Judith Pollard and Mary (Pastor Steve) Wooden; all of Benton Harbor; three grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hardie Wysinger; and a sister, Carol Sysinger.
Randall 'Randy' Edmonds
HARTFORD -- Randall "Randy" Lee Edmonds of New Blain, Ark., formerly of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly in Somerville, Tenn., on Jan. 30, 2004.
Born Dec. 17, 1955, in Watervliet to George and Jean (Stuckum) Edmonds. Randy attended Hartford Public Schools and had been employed as a truck driver for the past 30 years for various companies.
Randy enjoyed calling his family to share his many experiences along the road. He loved hunting and fishing and was anxiously anticipating returning to Michigan to share these activities with his beloved father, George.
God created Randy large in stature to encompass his huge heart. His greatest pleasure was helping others and he freely offered anything he possessed. To Randy, there were no strangers, only friends he had not yet met. His smile and laughter will always be remembered.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Randy' life will be scheduled at a later date.
Randy is survived by his father, George Edmonds; sister, Cathy (Pedro) Ontiveros; stepbrother, David (Norma) Bulat; and stepsister, Linda (Mark) Olds, all of Hartford; a stepsister, Sheryl (Steve) Ferguson of Lawton; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a large group of friends that were family in Randy's heart.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Jean; stepmother Betty; one sister and four brothers.
Randy's passing leaves a huge void in our lives that no one will ever fill, but his life has left us with memories that will always make us smile. Surely he is again on a Harley, seeking new friends.
Robert 'Bob' Myers
BARODA -- Robert "Bob" Myers, 62 of Baroda, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, from Lakeland Continuing Care Center in Berrien Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2673 John Beers Road, Stevensville. Burial will follow in Ruggles Cemetery, Baroda. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Mr. Myers was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Benton Harbor to Max and Anna (Klug) Myers. Bob attended St. Paul's Lutheran School, and has attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church all his life. He was employed at Paramount Die Casting in Stevensville for more than 20 years before their closing. Bob was employed by LeRoy's Trim Shop in Benton Harbor for several years until 1993, when he opened his own business -- Myer's Custom Canvas in Baroda.
On Oct. 20, 1979, he married Joyce Wohler in Stevensville. Bob was a member of the Michigan Small Business Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, boating, camping, fishing, and traveling.
Bob is survived by his wife Joyce; his son, Mike (Jackie) Myers of Bridgman; his daughter, Kelly (Dan) Headle of Estero, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Sharon (Jim) Krejci of Stevensville; his stepson, Ric (Laura) Wohler of Baroda; three grandchildren -- Ashley Sutcliffe, Jimmy Krejci, Allyson Krejci; three sisters -- Frances (Don) Young of Watervliet, Delores (Don Sabadin) Brunke of Stevensville and Joanne (Larry) Reifschneider of Baroda; and his beloved buddy Jed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max Myers, Anna Falak, and his stepfather, Adolph "Sonny" Falak.
Peggy Louise Reamer
BENTON HARBOR -- Peggy Louise Reamer, 64, of Doniphan, Mo. formerly of Elkhart, Ind. died Feb. 4, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Mo. with Pastor Wayne Bell. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Benton Heights Church of God, Benton Harbor. Burial will be later.
Peggy was born Jan. 16, 1940 in Friendship, Tenn. She formerly resided in Elkhart, Ind. She was a member of the Lady of the Moose in Elkhart.
Mrs. Reamer is survived by a son Bobby J. Stark of Doniphan; a sister, Mary Geraldaine Chamberlin of Jackson, Tenn.; a brother, Raymond Burness of Benton Harbor; five grandchildren -- Robert Stark of Doniphan, Shannon Stark of Elkhart, Ind., Shelley Rupp of Grandin, Mo., Melissa Stark, and Elizabeth Stark both of Doniphan; and four great-grandchildren.
Harold 'Sonny' Walters
BREEDSVILLE -- Harold "Sunny" Walters, 68, of Breedsville passed away Saturday Feb. 7, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of South Haven with Pastor Michael Schmid officiating. Memorials to go toward final expenses.
Sonny was born July 27, 1935, in Cook County, Ill. He has lived in the Breedsville area since 1976 and belonged to the Bangor American Legion Post.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene, whom he married Nov. 25, 1972; six children -- Charles Nozicka of Grand Rapids, Chris (Chuck) Wellington of Grand Junction, Joyce (Larry) Adams of Hartford, Bill Walters of Breedsville, G.C. Cannon of Mattawan, Andy Walters of Arkansas; six grandchildren; one brother, George (Carol) Walters of Kalaska; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry E. Oiler
SISTER LAKES -- Jerry Edward Oiler, 61, of Sister Lakes, passed away at his home in the company of his family on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004.
A wake will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11. Friends and family can pay their respects at his home at 31440 M-152, Dowagiac, Mich. 49047 (next to B.T's Pub).
Mr. Oiler was born June 21, 1942, in Jackson, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the USS Oriskany CVA-34. He was employed at Bendix-Allied Signal for 25 years and retired in 1994.
Mr. Oiler's love of gardening and devotion to his family were respected by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Mildred G. Oiler of Jackson, Ohio; his wife, Jackie; his son, Jerry Oiler Jr. of Santa Cruz, Calif.; daughters -- Jennifer (Marc) Van Patten of St. Joseph and Jodie (Ed) Herr of Eau Claire; three granddaughters -- Nichole, Ashley and Kaetlin "Katey Bug"; six brothers -- Rudy Oiler and Terry Oiler, both of Jackson, Johnny Oiler of London, Ohio, and Rodney Oiler of Napoleon, Ohio, Roger Oiler of Dowagiac and Paul Oiler of Benton Harbor; two sisters -- Vivian (Glen) Nichols and Dorene Rader, both of Jackson.
Mr. Oiler was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Oiler and Brian Oiler.
He will be deeply missed.
