Linda L. Winckel
STEVENSVILLE -- Linda L. Winckel, 51, of Stevensville died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, after a sudden heart attack on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dey-Florin Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Hinman Cemetery, Baroda Township. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Learning Center at Valley of Grand Rapids Scottish Rite.
Linda was born March 29, 1952, in Chicago. She was a member and former officer of the Elks Lodge, Benton Harbor. Most of the time she was a homemaker, but she did operate Countryside Catering on a part time basis. She loved cooking, the outdoors, landscaping and her flowers, but most important in her life were her grandchildren.

Survivors include: her husband, John Winckel; two daughters -- Tammy (Albert) Marvitz of Benton Harbor and Jamie (Brian) McNeany of Antioch, Ill.; two sons -- John "Scooter" (Kelly) Gollon and Robert "BJ" (Kristy) Winckel, both of Stevensville; two brothers -- James Ramage of Bryon, Ill., and Tommy Ramage of Zion, Ill.; two sisters -- Debbie Kral of Bryon and Karen Deathrage of Round Lake, Ill.; four grandchildren -- Hunter, age 4, Mikayla, age 4, Brice, age 3, and Westley, age 16 months.
James Eric 'Ric' Tanner
BENTON HARBOR -- James Eric "Ric" Tanner, 38, of Benton Harbor, a loving father of five children, was called upon by the Lord to go to a better place prepared for him by God on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Dey-Florin Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, St. Joseph, with the Rev. James Dunn officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes at a later date in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Tanner children scholarship fund at 5/3rd Bank or c/o the Dey-Florin Chapel.
Ric was born on July 12, 1965, to Jerry Ewing and Marlene (Akins) Accardi in St. Joseph.
He was raised in Watervliet and graduated from Watervliet High School in 1983.
Ric was employed in the plastics industry since high school and enjoyed the outdoors and camping with family.
He is survived by his beloved family, wife, Shannon, daughter, Heather, son Dylan Tanner; three stepsons -- Kyle, Jake and CJ Milliken; his devoted parents -- his mother, Marlene (Wayne) Accardi of Coloma; Jerry (Joan) Tanner of Hartford; Jerry (Mary) Ewing of Benton Harbor; sister, Tammy (Rob) Hayes of Bristol, Ind.; brothers -- Josh (Erika) Tanner of Coloma and Donnie (Linda) Tanner of St. Joseph; stepbrother, Troy (Joanie) Nevins of Hartford; stepsister, Nikki (Gary) Birkhead of Hartford; former wife, Sandy and her daughter, Stephanie Huff of Coloma; parents to wife Shannon, Clyde (Nita) Milliken; grandmother, Madeline Tanner of Bangor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

William S. 'Bill' MacCune
GRAND JUNCTION -- William S. "Bill" MacCune, 76, of Grand Junction died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Countryside Nursing Center, South Haven.
He was born April 3, 1927, in Yeme, Mo., to Johnnie George and Viola (Wilbanks) MacCune. Bill married Kaye Clark on Sept. 16, 1949, in South Bend, Ind. He worked for his father-in-law, Joe Clark, at C.M. Clark & Sons Saw Mill in Lacota. He then worked at International Furniture in Corona, Calif., for six years as an upholsterer. He also worked for Everett Piano Company from 1960, retiring in 1978. Bill attended the Lacota United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Junior MacCune and Eugene Jackson; and sisters, Virginia Plasterer and Katherine MacCune.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye MacCune of South Haven; sons -- William Allen (Kathe) MacCune of Lacota and Steven Clark (Mary) MacCune of Grand Junction; four grandchildren -- Karri (Saleem) Jellani, Douglas MacCune, Keyan MacCune and Kim (Neal) Compton; four great-grandchildren of Ohio; brother, Jim (Juanita) MacCune of Pullman; sisters -- Mae (Wesley) Gibson of Grand Junction, and Ruby Jackson of Pullman; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Feb. 3, at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Harold F. Filbrandt will officiate. Burial will be in Chambers Cemetery.
Philemon L. Mitchell
GRAND JUNCTION -- Philemon L. Mitchell, 80, of Grand Junction passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004, at his home.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the family residence, 19230 CR 681. Arrangements by Bangor Chapel, D.L. Miller Funeral Home.
Mr. Mitchell was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Okmulgee, Okla., the son of William and Barbara (Taylor) Mitchell, and had lived in the Grand Junction area for the past 51 years.
He retired from Bohn Aluminum, South Haven, in 1988; was a Little League coach in Bangor in the late '60s and early '70s.
In 1993, he was presented the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Van Buren County Mental Health Services and was also active in the EDC of Van Buren County for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne, whom he married June 21, 1943; 10 children -- Jeanne (Paul) Baraka-Love of Kalamazoo, Josephine Woods of Kalamazoo, Florence Mitchell of Allen, Texas, Naima (Najeeb) Abdul-Haqq of Bangor, Philemon (Eunice) Mitchell Jr. of Mattawan, Maurice (Maria) Mitchell of Allen, Dale (Teresa) Mitchell of Bangor, Veronica (Alton) Cook of Chicago, Marie (Donald Dunning) Elechi of Kalamazoo, Jill (Michael) Buford of Kalamazoo; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Geneva Bradley
COVERT -- Geneva Bradley, 87, of Covert went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at South Haven Health Care Centre.
She was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Moon Lake, Miss.
She leaves to mourn -- her husband, Robert Bradley of Covert. She raised two children, the Rev. Eddie (Mary) Swans of Covert and Geneva Prewitt, who preceded her in 2003; six grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Covert, with Pastor Henry Allen officiating.
A wake will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Covert Cemetery.
The family is being helped by the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven.
Kenneth Duane Smith
BUCHANAN -- Kenneth Duane Smith, 39, of Salisbury, N.C., former area resident, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C., of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Landmark United Pentecostal Church, Lexington, N.C., with the Rev. Kenneth Marshburn officiating. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury, and at other times family will be at the home. Memorials may be made to Landmark United Pentecostal Church, 208 Landmark Place, Lexington, N.C. 27292.
Kenneth was born Jan. 10, 1965, in Buchanan. He received his education at Buchanan High School and graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in 2003 with an associate degree in networking. He was employed with Freightliner in Cleveland and was previously employed with Fuch's Systems in Salisbury for 13 years. He was a member of Landmark United Pentecostal Church in Lexington.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Walters Smith, whom he married on Aug. 27, 1983; son, Alexander Duane Smith of the home; daughters -- Melissa S. Hagler of Faith, N.C., and Amanda Joy Smith of the home; his mother, Janie Wilkerson Reed of Dowagiac; his father, Wesley Dale Smith of Decatur; stepmother, Candace Freeze Smith of Decatur; brother, Scott Allen Smith of Salisbury; sisters -- Angela Lynette Walker of Dowagiac, Christy Ann Coons and Julie Marie Smith, both of Decatur; stepsisters -- Dianna Lynn Smith and Rebecca Sue Moore, both of Mishawaka, Ind.
Eugene Christner
WATERVLIET -- Eugene's life began July 29, 1927, in Niles. He was one of four children born to Simon and Dorothy (Vissor) Christner. Eugene spent his lifetime growing up and working in the area. At age 19, Eugene started driving truck, hauling Studebakers out of South Bend, Ind. His hobbies included traveling, motorcycles and nature. Eugene also shared a passion for model trains with his sons and grandsons.
Eugene's greatest love was his family, which includes: his wife, Lorraine (Siebarth) Christner; a daughter, Joyce and her husband, Mike Maynard of Zephyrhills, Fla., four sons -- Jerry of Watervliet, Jeff of Benton Harbor, Joe and his wife Cathy, and James and his wife Diane, both of Paw Paw; six grandchildren -- Amanda Christner, Josh Christner, Jacob Christner, Emily Christner, Michael Maynard and Michelle Maynard; two sisters -- Marlene and Joanne and her husband Pete Paris; brother, Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
Eugene died suddenly Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Community Hospital, Watervliet.
Friends may visit with Eugene's family from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, at Hutchins Funeral Home, Watervliet, where funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Eugene's family.
