Lila Iona Trulove
BENTON HARBOR -- Lila Iona Trulove, 79, of Benton Harbor, left this earth to be with our Lord in Heaven, on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, with Monsignor Eugene Sears as celebrant. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, in Coloma, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Cremation followed the services.
Lila was born on Aug. 10, 1924, in Flint, Mich., to Bessie (Purdy) and George Wickenhiser. She married George Trulove on Dec. 20, 1954, in Benton Harbor, where they made their home. Lila had a very active life. While her boys were growing up, she was very active in their extracurricular activities. She helped out with Little League, PTA, girls' softball and the Boy Scouts. Not only was she involved in their lives, but later, her two grandchildren's lives as well. There wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for either of them. Lila was very talented when it came to crocheting. She was always making things for her family and friends. In addition to these things, cooking was also one of her specialties. We will always remember the popcorn balls that she made us every year for Halloween and the apple pies she would bake. Lila also enjoyed gardening.
Lila is survived by her three sons -- Mike Trulove and Mark (Diane) Trulove of Benton Harbor, and Allen Trulove of Sodus; two grandchildren, Amanda Trulove of Benton Harbor and Jackie Trulove of Sodus; and many friends that she held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, George.
Her love is, and forever will be carried in our hearts.
Simon A. Gustafson
SODUS -- Simon A. Gustafson, 93, of Sodus died Sunday morning, June 13, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. The horse-drawn hearse of Bennetts Belgians will take Simon to his resting place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery following the service. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, and from 10 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the church. The family requests memorials be made to Chapel Hill Scholarship Fund of the Church.
Simon was born April 1, 1911, in Greenwood, Wis., to David and Selma (Johnson) Gustafson. He loved music and was an accomplished soloist, singing on various radio stations in Chicago in his early years and also at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. He worked for Farm Bureau Oil Company as a salesman and heating oil delivery man for many years as well as farming. He retired from Eau Claire Packing Company. Mr. Gustafson's enjoyments included gardening and chair caning, but he was definitely a farmer at heart and enjoyed his farm.
On Feb. 22, 1936, he married Elizabeth Burton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 2003.
Surviving are three daughters -- Mary (Tony) Lauricella of New Buffalo, Carole (John) Mehling of Lansing, Mich., and Susan (Jay) Harris of Plymouth, Mich.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Neutzhorn of Nixa, Mo.; and also a special niece, Rosiland Dohm.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Thom and Evelyn Case, and two brothers, Leonard and Edwin Gustafson.
Herman 'Herm' Herhold
COLOMA -- Herman "Herm" R. Herhold, 78, of Coloma passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Community Hospital, Watervliet.
A gathering of friends and family will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Davidson Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, Coloma. Services will be held in the chapel at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oak Terrace, Ill., on Friday, June 18, the time yet to be announced. Burial will immediately follow. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Mr. Herhold was born on Aug. 16, 1925, to Herman A. and Anna (Yaspelkis) Herhold in Maywood, Ill. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Lavonne Bandelow. He worked for R.R. Donnelly & Sons for 47 years and also retired from the Berkeley Fire Department in Berkeley, Ill., after 19 years as a volunteer fireman. Locally, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police 147 in Coloma. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Herhold is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lavonne Herhold of Coloma; three sons -- Daniel (Linda) Herhold of Berkeley, James (Jeannie) Herhold of Bellwood, Ill., and Randy (Kelly) Herhold of Villa Park, Ill.; three brothers -- Edward Herhold of Eureka, Mont., Allen Herhold of Tucson, Ariz., and Donald (Nancy) Herhold of Lake Zurich, Ill.; five grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jayn Antoinette Strunk
BENTON HARBOR -- Jayn Antoinette Strunk, 64, a homemaker of Lake Ann, Mich., died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
Born March 7, 1940, in Detroit, she was the daughter of John and Jayn (Lapham) LaBudda. On Aug. 26, 1961, in Flat Rock, she married John Strunk, who survives.
Formerly of Benton Harbor, Jayn moved to the Lake Ann area in 2002. She enjoyed all animals, especially dogs; raised horses, and was known as a kind of "horse whisperer." Jayn enjoyed sewing clothes for the family, crocheting, crafts and reading. She was also an avid lighthouse collector and enjoyed making cookies for the Barbershop Chorus. Jayn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen, a longtime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, and a member of Builders for Christ, where she and her husband traveled in their motor home to work sites.
Jayn will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Along with her husband John, Jayn is survived by her children, Martha Strunk of Benton Harbor, Emilie (Mark) McConnell of Conroe, Texas, Sarah (Rich) Pollard and Luke (Wendy) Strunk of Watervliet, Philip (Kristina) Strunk of Coloma; 12 grandchildren; brother, Steven LaBudda of Flat Rock. Mich.; and an aunt, Katherine Austin of Flat Rock.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1896 Rogers Road, Interlochen, Mich. 49643, on Wednesday, June 16, at 11 a.m., where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Pastor Timothy Mowry will officiate the service. Burial will be in Lake Ann Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to either Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Elsie Geminder
GALIEN -- Elsie Geminder, 85, formerly of Galien, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at her home in Lake City, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, with the Rev. John Kasper officiating. Interment will follow at Galien Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Cadillac for the purchase of needed equipment.
Mrs. Geminder was born Jan. 8, 1919, in New Troy, Mich., to Charles and Alma (Krumrie) Trapp. She married Mr. Loraine D. Geminder on Nov. 9, 1934, in LaPorte, Ind. They made their home in Galien. Mrs. Geminder enjoyed gardening and canning the produce she grew. She was a talented seamstress, sewing school clothing for her eight children, and sewing gifts of clothing for her grandchildren. Mrs. Geminder used her skills as a seamstress while employed at the Warren Featherbone Factory and later at Gerber Babywear, both in Three Oaks. She moved to Lake City, Mich., several years ago, and loved spending time fishing.
Survivors include her children -- Virgil Geminder, Elkhart, Ind.; Vivian (George) Koebel, Three Oaks; Paul (Ann) Geminder, Galien; Dolores (Jay) Stackhouse, Rochester, Ind.; Donna (Harold) Redding, Galien; Rita (Gary) Thompson, Maumee, Ohio; Jerri (Mike) Payne, Galien; and Barbara (Greg) Becker, Lake City, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters -- Edith Klemm of Stevensville, Mich., and Eleanor Reitz of Three Oaks; and her brother, Bob (Mary) Trapp of Galien.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 17, 1980; two grandchildren; sisters, Eva Richter and Alice Bronson. Brothers Kenneth, Albert and Leo also preceded her in death.

Phillip Lee
BENTON HARBOR -- Phillip Lee, 40, of Benton Harbor, died June 9, 2004, at Foote Hospital, Jackson, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, June 14, at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor. Cremation is scheduled to follow the service.
Mr. Lee was born June 14, 1963, in Portageville, Mo. to the union of Joseph and Millie (Davis) Lee. He was formerly employed as a laborer and truck service attendant.
He is survived by his father, Joseph Lee of Benton Harbor; sons -- Phillip Murray, Justin Shannon, and Johnathan Shannon all of Benton Harbor; daughter, Phyllis Lee of Kalamazoo; brothers -- Lewis (Michelle) Lee of Atlanta, Ga., Floyd (Rommietta) Lee of Benton Harbor, James Lee of Grand Rapids; sister, Ophelia Lee of Kalamazoo; special friends Sheila Lee and Meagan Lee both of Benton Harbor; stepsisters, Debra Wilderness and Mary Wilson both of Lilbourne, Mo.; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Millie Lee; brothers -- Joseph Lee, Nathaniel Lee, John Lee, David Lee, Clarence Lee, and Donald Lee.
