Nickolas Robert Stambek
DECATUR -- Nickolas Robert Stambek, 21, of Mattawan, formerly of Paw Paw and Decatur, went to be in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at LakeView Community Hospital, Paw Paw.
Nickolas was born Aug. 6, 1983, in Kalamazoo. He was a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Sherri (Mroczek) Stambek of Marcellus; two sisters -- Stephanie Stambek and Emily Stambek, both of Marcellus; maternal grandparents, Henry and Beverly Mroczek of Decatur; paternal grandparents, Robert and Emma Jean Stambek of Decatur; maternal great-grandmother, Josephine Daines of Paw Paw; aunts and uncles, Joel and Suzie Stambek and Mike and Vicki Mroczek, all of Decatur, Larry and Brenda Mroczek and Jeannie Mroczek, all of Marcellus, Dave and Laura Mroczek of Dowagiac and Tim and Nancy Loney of Naples, Italy; and several cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Decatur, with Father Robert F. Creagan as celebrant. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Archie C. Carpenter Sr.
BENTON HARBOR -- Archie Cevel Carpenter Sr., 71, of Benton Harbor passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Union Memorial AME Church, 911 South Crystal Ave., Benton Harbor, where visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor.
Archie was born April 10, 1933, in Tyronza, Ark., to the union of Luther Jasper and Adell (White) Carpenter.
He was a faithful member of Union Memorial AME since 1956. Archie was employed by the Benton Harbor Holiday Inn for 35 years and also was owner and operator of Carpenter TV, Antenna, and Snow Plowing Services for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Jasper and Adell Carpenter; three brothers -- Felix Carpenter, Luther King Carpenter, Cornelius Wilder Carpenter; and two sisters, Virgia Lee Hatchett and Bell Verdell Bell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby; daughter, Carolyn Carpenter-Grier; son, Archie (Bernadette) Carpenter Jr., all of Benton Harbor; and grandson, Alvin V. Grier of Detroit; three brothers -- Overtus (Blenda) Carpenter of Oak Park, Mich., Luther Jasper Carpenter Jr. of Detroit and Melvin (Mary) Carpenter of Benton Harbor; sister, Aldine (Willie) Burns of Detroit; sisters-in-law -- Elizabeth Ann Carpenter of Benton Harbor and Alter Carpenter of Berrien Springs; brother-in-law, Walter Roy Bell of Chicago; Godbrother, Vaughn (Jackie) Clement; and a host of relatives and friends.

Ruby Mae Hunt
BENTON HARBOR -- Ruby Mae Hunt, 68, of Benton Harbor died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Foot Hospital, Jackson, Mich., of natural causes.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at New Paradise Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, with the Rev. Willie T. Burton officiating. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the church.
Mrs. Hunt was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Wynne, Ark., and lived here since 1967, coming from Arkansas. She was a member of New Paradise Baptist Church, Benton Harbor. Ruby owned her own seamstress business.
On Aug. 8, 1983, she married Leroy Hunt, in Texarkana, Ark. He survives along with sons, Odell Brown of Earl, Ark., Dennis Brown of Benton Harbor and Glen Brown of South Bend, Ind.; daughters -- Maxine Turner, Ruby Brown, Vaeessa Johnson, Shirley Brown and Rose Brown, all of Benton Harbor; stepsons -- Leroy Hunt Jr. of Detroit, Greg Hunt of Benton Harbor, Melvin Hunt of Atlanta, Kenneth Hunt of Houston, Curtis Hunt of Benton Harbor and Rickey Hunt of Houston; stepdaughters -- Gloria Chenault and Rolonda Page, both of Houston; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; sisters -- Louise Steele of Wynne, Ark., Shirley Ward of West Memphis, Ark., Carolyn Coleman of Ennis, Texas, Okalto Cox of Wynne, Ark., Mae Alice Scott of Grand Rapids, Mae Ralice McFarland, Idel McFarland and Mary Ann Hughes, all of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Galtin and Annie (Stafford) Galtin.
Frances A. Hurbanis
BARODA -- Frances Agnes Hurbanis, 84, of Baroda passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Bridgman, with the Rev. Father Charles Page as Celebrant. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville. Frances was born March 2, 1920, in Ennis, Texas, the daughter of the late Anton and Marie Luksa. On Feb. 18, 1939, she married Emil Hurbanis, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1995.
Survivors include four children -- George Hurbanis of Benton Harbor, Emil A. (Sharon) Hurbanis of Kentwood, Mich., Pat (Ron) Kaley of Wyoming, Mich., and Janet (Rich) Macigewski of Baroda; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Frances was also preceded in death by an infant son, John, in 1955; and a sister, Anna Mikus, in 2004.
Robert R. Liskey
NEW TROY -- Robert R. Liskey, 83, of Mercedes, Texas, passed away Aug. 12, 2004, at Valley Baptist Hospital, Harlingen, Texas.
Robert was born Nov. 5, 1920, in New Troy, to Robert and Cleo Liskey.
He worked many years at Whirlpool Corp. and attended Western Michigan University while working and earned his master's degree in psychology. He then worked for the State of Florida and later for the State of Colorado.
Bob and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling and camping.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date at New Troy Cemetery. A memorial service was held in Mercedes, Texas.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary; children -- Robert Liskey Jr. of Anaheim, Calif., Cathy Liskey of Irondale, Ala., Amy Harper of Coloma, Bill (Sue) Liskey of Orlando, Fla., Mary Ann (Bill) Rodgers-Myers of San Antonio, Anne (Stacy) Rodgers-Hall of Salt Lake City, Suzanne (Ron) Townsend of Flowersville, Mich., and Warren (Barbara) Rodgers of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters -- Marian (Richard) Cutler of Jenison, Mich., and Marilyn (Robert) Kiel of Stevensville; and a brother-in-law, John Miller of Buchanan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Doris Blaney and Shirley Miller.
Richard C. Robbins Jr.
HARTFORD -- The loving family and many friends and acquaintances of Richard C. Robbins Jr., of Hartford, were shocked and saddened to learn of his sudden passing on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Community Hospital, Watervliet.
Dick was born on Aug. 14, 1940, to Richard C. and Velma (Newnum) Robbins Sr., in Arlington Township, Mich. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1958 and served six years in the U.S. Navy, both on active duty and in the reserves.
Dick married his devoted wife, Sharyn Michal (Keech) in 1961, and were subsequently the proud parents of Lisa (Tim) Morrow of Sawyer, and Richard "Gary" Robbins of St. Joseph. In addition to his immediate family, Dick is survived by his mother, Velma Robbins of South Haven, and stepmother, Danna Robbins of Hartford. Dick will be dearly missed by the light-of-his-life, granddaughter, Jayme Woodward of Sawyer, a student at River Valley High School. Dick is also survived by two brothers -- Thomas (Gail) Robbins of Zionsville, Ind., and Spence "Wally" (Anne) Robbins of Statesville, N.C.; two brothers-in-law -- Jim (Ruth) Keech of Keeler, Mich., and Richard (Barbara) Keech of Berrien Springs, along with several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
His father, Richard Cecil Robbins Sr., preceded him in death in 2003.
Dick spent most of his working career in the construction industry as both a driver and a master mechanic. He helped to set up the agriculture/diesel department of the Van Buren Vo-Tec Center and taught there for one year. Dick was an active member of the Hartford Fire Department for many years. He served the community of Hartford as a councilman and was currently a member of the Hartford Township Zoning Commission. Dick most recently retired and worked part time at Kellogg Hardware in Hartford.
Dick's "farm" was his passion where he also collected antique farming equipment. He loved the country life as it afforded him many opportunities to feed and observe birds, deer and local wildlife. Dick was always ready to lend a helping hand to his many good friends and neighbors, putting to use his years of experience to fix what had been broken, and improve what was lacking.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. The memorial service to honor Dick's memory will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Timothy Nyhuis of the Hartford Federated Church will officiate. Private burial of his ashes will be held later in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Those wishing to make a memorial in Dick's name may do so with the organization of their choice.
Kimberly Reed
EAU CLAIRE -- Kimberly Reed, 39, of Eau Claire, died Saturday morning, Aug. 28, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in a biplane accident in Port Edwards, Wis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, where visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Steven 'Steve-Man' Kimble
BENTON HARBOR -- Steven "Steve-Man" Kimble, 20, of Benton Harbor died Aug. 23, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 31 at the Brotherhood Church of God in Christ, Benton Harbor, with the Rev. James Atterberry officiating. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 31 at the church. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor.
Steven was born Jan. 7, 1984, in Kalamazoo to Guy Jones and Sully Ann Kimble, both of Benton Harbor. He is a lifetime resident of the area. He played basketball for Benton Harbor High School.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Guy and Tiffany Jones of Benton Harbor; mother and stepfather, Sully Ann Kimble and Leroy Williams, both of Benton Harbor; maternal grandmother, Marie Kimble of Benton Harbor; special friend, Solona Bridgeman of Benton Harbor; eight aunts -- Betty Beechum, Betty (Rev. Louis) Gordon, Rose Kimble, Ann (Austin) Reece, all of Benton Harbor, Barbara (David) Hunter of Minnesota, Baby Ruth Cooper of Missouri, Mary Ann Jerrnigan of Chicago and Rochelle Jerrnigan of Houston, Texas. Four uncles -- Freddie Kimble of Battle Creek, Mich., Larry Jones, Lucious Jerrnigan and George Jerrnigan, all of Chicago.
