Rev. Glen Bradford
Rev. Glen H. Bradford, 88, of Spring Lake Township died Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2001 at his residence.
Rev. Bradford was born March 9, 1913 in Winnepeg, Mo. to Herbert and Odelia MacFarland Bradford. In 1937, he was united in marriage to Dolly Marquess in Phoenix, Ariz. She preceded him in death in 1997. He then married Florence Herbert in 1998, who survives him.
Rev. Bradford was associated with the American Baptist Church graduating from Seminary in 1937. He served as an Army chaplain in WWII making over 30 crossings of the Atlantic Ocean on troop ships.
Following the war, he worked in Missions for the National Church, taught high school in Arizona and was academic dean of Denver University.
In addition to his wife, his survivors include a son, Tracy W. Bradford of Catawba Island, Ohio and Janet Bradford of Grand Haven; three grandchildren, Dee (Todd) Jones of Grand Haven; Ryan (Michelle) Bradford of Charlotte and Paige Bradford of Grand Haven.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Harvey M. Bradford as well as four brothers and one sister.
Arrangements are being handled by Alternative Funeral Services of Achterhoff.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1070 S. Quarterline Road, with Rev. John Brown officiating. Memorials may be made to the Family Center of First Baptist Church.
Doris Miller
Doris L. Miller, 75, of Montague died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001.
She was born Feb. 1, 1926 in Proctor, Minn. to Norman and Emily (Dixon) Gannon. She had lived in the White Lake area for the past 43 years, moving there from the Grand Haven area. She married Ivan S. Miller in Grand Haven on May 14, 1949. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2001.
Mrs. Miller had worked at Reichardt & Bennet Realty Co. and later had been co-owner of Miller's IGA in Montague with her husband. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the St. Jude Circle at church, the White Lake Area Sportfishing Association, and had served as a member of the Montague City Board of Review.
Survivors include her children: Michael (Karen) Miller of Grand Haven, Gail (John) Keller of South Lake, Tex., Steve Miller of Whitehall, Leta (Craig) Updegraff of Ada and Matthew Miller of Whitehall; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James (Marge) Gannon of Lake Forest, Ill.
Arrangements are being handled by Clock Funeral Home of White Lake.
A memorial service for Mrs. Miller will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., from St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Chris W. Rouech as Liturgist. A vigil for the deceased will be held Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Whitehall and 10 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the church in Montague. Visiting hours: Tuesday, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home in Whitehall. Memorial: Memorial Fund of St. James Catholic School, 5149 Dowling St., Montague 49437.
Kenneth Rowell
Kenneth Rowell, 32, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 in California after a long illness.
Born in Grand Haven, he moved to California 12 years ago.
Mr. Rowell is survived by his mother and stepfather, Bonnie and James Curry of Grand Haven; a brother, Kevin Stuhan of Grand Haven; several aunts and uncles and special friend Kevin Nichols of California.
Mr. Rowell was preceded in death by grandparents, Rose and Stanley Rowell of Grand Haven, and nephew Cameron Stuhan.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice.
Bernard Grahek
Bernard Michael Grahek, 75, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his son's home in Nunica. Mr. Grahek was born July 20, 1926 in Ely, Minn. to Steve B. and Kathryn (Mulerich) Grahek.
He retired from hospital administration in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was a graduate of Creighton University. He was a Veteran serving during World War II and was a very active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Phoenix, as well as being active in health care organizations across the country and the American Slovic Association in Phoenix.
Mr. Grahek is survived by two sons: Mark (Ann) Grahek of Nunica and Michael (Michele) Grahek of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Patricia (Steven) Grahek of Andover, Minn.; three grandchildren and a sister, Anne Marie Grahek of Ely, Minn., and his brother Dr. Larry (Inez) Grahek of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosella, in October of 2000, two brothers and a sister.

A Memorial Mass for Bernard M. Grahek will be held at a later date in Ely, Minn. Those desiring a memorial are asked to remember Esperanca (a Catholic charity), 1911 W. Earl Dr., Phoenix, Ariz 85014.
Christine Benedict
Christine Ella-Anna Benedict joined her husband in the presence of God on Monday, Nov. 12, 2001.
A lifelong Grand Haven resident, she was born here on Sept. 29, 1912 to William and Emma Ella (Yeske) Dense; and married Homer Wellman Benedict Jan. 13, 1933. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1976.
Mrs. Benedict was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. She enjoyed her association and was a member of the Advisory Board with the North Ottawa Council on Aging (Senior Center).
She served the Lord actively through involvement in mission projects including Helping Hands of Rest Haven Homes, Workers Together, Grand Haven Gospel Chapel Ladies Missionary Outreach, Forest Hills Bible Chapel/Romania Mission by knitting, crocheting and making gift awards.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth (James) Stutesman, Grand Haven; son, Richard (Sheryl) Benedict, Grand Haven; five grandchildren: Elizabeth (Phillip) Manning, Susanna Stutesman, Richelle (Daniel) Davis, Renae Benedict, Ryan Benedict; two great-grandchildren, Katlin and Nathan Ashcraft; and sister-in-law, Rose Dense, Spring Lake.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Donald and George Benedict, and her brother, Edward Dense.
A funeral service for Mrs. Benedict will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Mr. David Marvin officiating. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Western Michigan Teen Challenge or Forest Hills Bible Chapel/Romania Mission Fund.
Dorwin 'Cookie' Cook
Dorwin "Cookie" Cook, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in Muskegon.
Mr. Cook was born Dec. 12, 1919 in Grand Rapids to Earl and Maude (Hill) Cook.
On Sept. 5, 1941, he married the former Marjorie Kieft and she preceded him in death in 1987. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Winifred Wierenga and Genevieve Reuterdahl, and a grandson, Jimmy Moritz. On July 16, 1988, he married the former Virginia S. Northrop.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II (1944-46). Prior to his retirement, he worked in life insurance sales and as vice president of marketing for Federal Home Life. He was a member of Fruitport Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Virginia; his children, Judith (Fred) Moritz of Decatur, Ala., and Susan (Jim) Jones of Lafayette, Ind.; step-children, Janice (David) Clark of Spring Lake, and David (Sheryl) Northrop of Holland; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Barney of Scottsdale, Ariz., and one sister, Beatrice Bramer of Jenison.
Arrangements are being handled by Sytsema Funeral Home of Muskegon.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fruitport Bethel Baptist Church, 213 W. Oak, Fruitport, with Dr. Fred Moritz and Pastor Steve Worth officiating. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Visitation with Dorwin's family will be from 12 noon-1 p.m. Tuesday (one hour prior to the service). The family thanks the Christian Care staff and Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana, for all their kindness and care shown "Cookie" during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be given to Baptist World Mission, P.O. Box 2149, Decatur, AL 35602-2149 or the Christian Care Inc. of Muskegon.
John Lilley Jr.
John Keenan Lilley Jr., 89, of Spring Lake died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in Muskegon.
Born Oct. 14, 1912 in Flint to John K., and Elizabeth (Coots) Lilley, he married Jane Payette on Nov. 25, 1936 in Grand Rapids. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1982. He then married Rosemary DeBruin Austin on April 16 1986 in Grand Haven.
Mr. Lilley was retired from Industrial Sales and a graduate of Michigan State University. He was also a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and church activities, Spring Lake Country Club, Spring Lake Library Board and the Grand Haven Elks Lodge.
During WWII he served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He enjoyed golf, reading, gardening, bridge and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; three sons, John K. Lilley III of Dexter; Peter P. (Linda) Lilley of Penfield, NY and Thomas J. (Nancy) Lilley of Grand Haven; three step-children, Jayne Austin (Roger) Krese of Cascade; Don (Sandy) Austin and Jon (Carolyn) Austin both of Spring Lake; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a sister, Elizabeth Stealy of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward V. Lilley.

A funeral mass for John Keenan Lilley Jr. will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Vainavicz as celebrant. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Spring Lake funeral home where a Scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Those desiring a memorial are asked to remember St. Mary's church/school or Warner Baird Library.
