Charlotte Irene Smith
SOUTH HAVEN -- Charlotte Irene Smith, 100, of South Haven died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at South Haven Health Care Centre.
She was born June 1, 1904, in Rayburn, Ind., to Edwin C. and Gertrude (Moore) Holmes. She was Valedictorian of her class and graduated in 1924, from South Haven High School. Charlotte played the piano and enjoyed watching her soaps on TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William W. Henderson; her second husband, Harold "Duke" Smith; daughter, Diane June Aviles; and granddaughter, Lisa M. Rodriguez, in 1959; and a sister, Helen Bishop.
She is survived by a son, Steve (Debby) Henderson of South Haven; 10 grandchildren -- Lila (Jeff) Lewis, David Aviles, Jamie (Lynn) Bainbridge, Laura (Dennis) Pearce, Sarah Mills, Rebecca (Dean) Cook, Amber Henderson, Jennifer Mills, C. Scott Henderson and Troy Henderson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Lakeview Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Al-Van Humane Society.
The family is being helped by Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven.
Vicki E. Tapp
WATERVLIET -- Vicki E. Tapp, 59, of Watervliet died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Davidson Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, Coloma, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Cremation will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Vicki was born July 31, 1945, in Coloma, to Erna (Fankhaiser) and Hubert Thompson, who preceded her in death. She was employed some years ago as a bartender in several local establishments. Vicki was very outgoing, friendly and loved life. She struggled with multiple sclerosis the last few years of her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Carri Shimer and granddaughter, Alexis Shimer, both of Coloma, whom she adored and loved very much; and a brother, Dean (Jeannette) Thompson of New Buffalo.
Margaret Banyon
BENTON HARBOR -- Margaret Banyon, 91, of Benton Harbor passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home for the Lory Place.
Mrs. Banyon was born July 20, 1913, in Chicago, to Edward and Lillian (Cingros) Bland. On Oct. 21, 1950, she married John P. Banyon in Benton Harbor. Marge held executive secretary positions with Robinson Marine Construction Company and Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company. Marge enjoyed sewing and playing the piano and organ for social gatherings.
Mrs. Banyon is survived by her husband, John; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and a host of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Arthur Bland.
Ivan Eugene Mittan
CABALLO, N.M. -- Ivan Eugene Mittan, 92, a resident of Caballo, N.M., since 1998, died at his home on Aug. 9, 2004. Ivan was born in Michigan on July 16, 1912, to Robert and Louise (Stillwell) Mittan.
He was a retired master electrician and had worked for Ross Carrier and the Chrysler Corporation.
Mr. Mittan is survived by his daughter, Patricia L. Engle, and a son, Donald E. and wife, Rose Mittan, all of Caballo; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; his two sisters-in-law, Val Mittan of St. Joseph and Betty Klupp of Benton Harbor; and by his brother-in-law, Larry Carpenter of Benton Harbor.
Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at the Glendora Cemetery at a future date. Arrangements are by the Kirikos Family Funeral Home Inc., 303 N. Cedar St., Truth or Consequences, N.M.
Stella Allen
MADISON, Tenn. -- Stella Allen, 91, of Madison, Tenn., died Aug. 27, 2004. She was born Sept. 12, 1912.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred William Allen; two daughters; one son; five grandsons; her parents; one sister and one brother.
She is survived by daughters -- Marion Wilson (J.B.) of Portland, Tenn., Bonnie Anderson of Franklin, Ky., and Beverly Stanford (Chuck) of Greenbrier, Tenn.; sons -- Eddie Allen of Roscommon, Mich., Joe Allen of Elkhart, Ind., Doyle (Bill) Allen of Trinity, Texas, Jim Allen of Spring, Texas, Gerald Allen of Rawlins, Wyo., Kenny Allen of Dublin, Ga.; one sister, Jessie Shelly, and brother, Henry Glass, both of Hayti, Mo.; 39 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
One of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1950, Mrs. Allen attended the Kingdom Hall at 325 Slayton Drive, Madison, Tenn., where her memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 4. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made either to Jehovah's Witnesses or Imperial Manor, Activities Department, 306 W. Due West Ave., Madison, Tenn. 37115.
Maurice Lee Tamblin
NILES -- Maurice Lee Tamblin, 77, of Niles died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Silverbrook Manor, Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with the Rev. J. Dean Pickett of First Church of the Nazarene, St. Joseph, officiating. Burial will be in Bertrand Bible Church Cemetery, Niles. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Mr. Tamblin was born April 1, 1927, in Gouverneur, N.Y. He had lived in the Galien area for 28 years, coming from Indiana. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Tamblin retired from Buchanan Steel in 1989, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his loving wife and family. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, St. Joseph.
He is survived by his wife, Almarie Scherer-Tamblin, whom he married on March 28, 1992, in Niles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one stepgrandson, David Clements III.
Survivors include: a son, William Tamblin of Galien; stepdaughters -- Wanda (Dave) Clements of South Bend, Ind., Elaine Hendricks of Elkhart, Ind., Christine (Dave) Austin of South Bend, Carolyn (Jim) Palmer, Janie (Scott) Stratton, both of Lakeland, Fla.; one grandchild; eight stepgrandchildren; brother, Keith Tamblin of Fairport, N.Y.
Frank L. Sipes II
BLOOMINGDALE -- Frank L. Sipes II, 79, of Bloomingdale passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home.
There will be no public visitation. A private funeral service with interment in Spring Grove Cemetery will be held.
The family suggests memorials to the Bloomingdale Fire Department.

Mr. Sipes was born April 4, 1925, in Chicago, and resided here for more than 60 years, where he was a career truck driver with Clemons/Tucker Freight.
He served over 50 years on the Bloomingdale Fire Department including many years as Chief. He was a member of the Bloomingdale Masonic Lodge and the Van Buren County Sheriff's Posse. He loved being active with his grandchildren.
Surviving are six children -- Alyce (Richard Shedd) Sipes of Bloomingdale, Frank (Kathy) Sipes of Lawton, John (Susan) Sipes of Bloomingdale, Paula (Richard Vreeland) Sipes of Gobles, Laurie (Pat Hamilton) Sipes of Portage and George (Laura Trevino) Sipes of South Haven; eight grandchildren -- Timothy Yetzke, Jon and Maizy Sipes, Gray and Pierce Vreeland, Lauren and Anna Hamilton and Paisley Sipes; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; a son, Stevie; a brother, George Schrieber; and a sister, Genie Plaster.
Mary P. Miller
HARTFORD -- Mary P. Miller, 72, of Hartford passed away suddenly from her life on earth to eternity in heaven on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Mary was born on Aug. 12, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of Sergey and Katherine (Gajda) Pradon, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary married William John Miller on Aug. 30, 1952. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved to fish, cook and help those in need. She had been employed at the Harding's Market in Hartford since 1967.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 3, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. A service to honor her memory will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Those wishing to make a memorial may do so with the American Cancer Society.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (George Sibula) Miller of Coloma; son, Mark (Sherry) Miller of Hartford; grandchildren -- Jim, Eric and Anthony Kolenko and Kevin and Kacey Darling; brother, Paul (Donna) Pradon of Hartford; many nieces and nephews, and will be truly missed by her special friends, Bonna Vanderlyn, Irma Anderson, Ramona Pradon and Michelle Moore. Everyone who knew her will truly miss her.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William, who passed away on May 25, 1990; three sisters, Ann Pleyer, Josephine Rdzak and Eleanor Wilkens; and two brothers, George and Donald Pradon.
