Frederick R. Ward Jr.
HARTFORD - Frederick R. Ward Jr., 78, of Hartford passed away at home on Thursday, July 23, 2009.
Fred was born in Chicago on Dec. 11, 1930. He moved to Hartford in 1941, with his parents, Fred and Rose Ward. He was a 1948 graduate of Hartford High School. He married Arlene Hurley on March 1, 1949.
Fred was a State Farm agent in Hartford for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was active in his community, coaching youth baseball for many years, supporting all school events, and serving as president of the PTA. He was a member of the Friends of the Library and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Fred was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He taught Catechism classes, served as lector, and was on the Church Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Ward and Rose (Ward) Peters, stepfather, Neil Peters, stepbrothers, Neil, John and Don Peters, and stepsisters, Virginia VanOoy and Maxine Olvitt.
Fred is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Arlene; two sons, Frederick Ward III of Hartford, Ronald (Pamela) Ward of Hartford; daughter, Lauren Ward of Grand Ledge; two granddaughters, Leslie Ward of Chicago and Kim Ward of Los Angeles; sister-in-law, Phyllis Peters of Portage, and Jane Boze of Hartford, who became a part of his family.
Fred was a generous man who found joy in his friends and family.
A mass to celebrate his life will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. Father Robert Flickinger and Father Fabio Garzon will officiate. Calvin Funeral Home of Hartford is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hartford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hartford Public Library, South Haven Hospice at Home, or the Hartford Fire Department.
Glenn K. Snyder
DECATUR - Glenn K. Snyder, age 84, of Decatur passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, at Rose Arbor Residence, Kalamazoo.
Glenn was born July 19, 1924, in Kalamazoo, the son of Wilbur Oary and Lillian (Congdon) Snyder. He was a farmer in the area for several years, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Decatur or many years and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Glenn was formerly on the Volinia Township School Board, a life member of VFW Celery City Post 6248 of Decatur and a life member of Decatur Lodge 99 F&AM;, which merged with Peninsular Lodge 10 F&AM; of Dowagiac.
He married Evelyn "Tommy" Mohney on Nov. 20, 1944, in Newberg, N.Y., and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen (Edward) Perrine of Kalamazoo and Deborah "Debbie" (Lindsay) Harrington of Punta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret (Willis "Stub") Kinney of Lawton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard Snyder.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home, Decatur. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Charleston Cemetery, Volinia Township, with Masonic Rites conducted by Peninsular Lodge and military rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion Post 309, both of Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Glenn K. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is for students pursuing careers in agriculture or veterinary science.
Lillian (Sieroslawski) Heyn
BARODA - Lillian D. (Sieroslawski) Heyn, 85, of Baroda went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at home surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of her eternal life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Pastor Gerald Schroer officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. with burial following in Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevensville.
Lillian was born on Feb. 3, 1924, in Harvey, Ill., to Theodore and Anna (Demokowski) Sieroslawski, along with six brothers and a sister. She later married Edward Heyn on Oct. 19, 1940, in Stevensville. Together they raised five children on the Heyn Family homestead. After many years of helping with the farming, she took a job at Shepherd Casters as an inspector and retired after 29 years.
She worked hard in the grapes, baled hay and helped to get crops in. Gardening, bird-watching and working in her flower beds were her joys. She hosted many family events and reunions at the farm and entertained us with her accordion. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Lillian is survived by her two daughters, Ann (Michael) Duensing of St. Joseph and Patricia (John) Paydo of Birmingham, Ala., and her son, Robert (Mabel) Heyn of Baroda. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert of Florida and Donald of South Carolina, and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, one daughter, four brothers and one sister.
Mary B. Marosites
HAGAR SHORES - Mary B. Marosites, 83, of Hagar Shores, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2009, at Countryside Rehabilitation Center in South Haven.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Services, 249 E. Center St. in Coloma. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary was born July 27, 1925, in Spinks Corners, Mich., to William and Mamie Ellis. She married Louis Marosites. Mary worked as a school bus driver for the Coloma Public School System for many years. Later she drove for Careful Transit. Later she was a co-owner of R & M Foods. Mary was a world traveler who traveled to such places as China, Singapore, Italy and Mexico. She enjoyed cooking, barn parties and playing card games. Mary was most happy spending time with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her sons, Bernie Marosites of Benton Harbor and Bradley (Stacy) Marosites of Buchanan; daughter-in-law, Louise Marosites; grandchildren - Bernena Wier and Belinda Powell, both of Texas, Brandy (Chris) Travis of Oklahoma, Brett (Karen) Marosites of North Carolina, and Annette (Tony) Carter; step-grandchildren, Cindy and Peggy, both from Texas; seven great-grandchildren; numerous close and special friends and cousins in Michigan; special friend, Wayne Martin; and by her beloved dog, Sparky.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 1999; stepson, Bruce Marosites, killed in Vietnam in 1967; and by her great-grandson, Benny Marosites in 1976.
John R. Harner
ST. JOSEPH - John R. "Big John" Harner, 70, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, at the Dey-Florin Funeral Home, 2506 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Dean Pickett officiating. Military rites will conclude his service. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home.
John was born Nov. 26, 1938, in Benton Harbor to Jess Craft and Anna Harner. He married the "love of his life" Kay Clubb and together they had four children. He worked for Superior Steel, HyFirehammer, and P.R. Shell. John will be remembered for his sense of humor and for always sharing a joke. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazerene in St. Joseph. John cherished his family and they loved him dearly. What he loved most was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had many friends and will be greatly missed by many.
John is survived by his wife, Kay, of 49 years; children - Debra (Steve) Paul from Texas, Tamera (Mark Gawron of Rochester, NY, Greg Haron of St. Joseph, and Tina (Terry) Jaggers of Benton Harbor; nine grandchildren - Staci, T.J., Ashley, Stephanie, Amanda, Kimberly, Michael, Tony, and Courtney; three great-grandchildren - Michael, Kari, and James; sister, Marge Adams of Dowagiac; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his son, John R. Harner, Jr.; and by his brothers, Albert, Bob, Frank, Ed, and Chuck Craft; and by his sisters, Mildred Miles, June Weaver, and MaryAnn Krajecki.
Jefferson Davis Holton
BENTON HARBOR - Jefferson Davis Holton, 67, of Benton Harbor passed away June 11, 2009, at 3:18 p.m. in the loving care of his family.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. June 19, with visiting hour at 11 a.m. at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, 204 S. Fair Ave., Benton Harbor, Mich. 49022. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma.
Mr. Holton entered this life on March 20, 1942, to the union of Clemmie and Vonnie Lee Holton in Conehatta, Miss. Jeff came to Benton Harbor in the early 1950s. Jeff held a mixture of jobs. He retired from Special Cleaning Services in 2008, after becoming ill.
Jeff leaves to cherish his sweet memories his companion of 21 years, Barbara Jean Mosley; daughters, Sidney Taylor of Grand Rapids, Sharon (Troy) King of Yuma, Ariz., Vanessa Little of Benton Harbor; sons, Darrin (Tina) Taylor of South Bend, Ind., Troy (Crystal) Taylor of Morgantown, W.Va., DeShawn Welch and Willie Henley of Benton Harbor; sisters, Ida Marie McGee of Benton Harbor, Verna (Elliot) Ross of Milwaukee; brothers, T.H. (JoAnn) Holton, Jerry, Charles (Stickman) Harolson Holton, all of Benton Harbor, and Jimmy (Eddie) Holton of Grand Rapids. Jeff has 35 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are parents, Clemmie and Vonnie Holton; brothers, James and Mathis Holton; sister, Barbara Holton; son, Sylvester Little. Jeff has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts; very special friends, John Yankee and Carolyn Taylor; a very special sister-in-law, Ida Mae Holton whom spoke of often.

Kathy Ann Conlin
BENTON HARBOR - Kathy Ann Conlin, 51, of Benton Harbor died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at the St. Joseph Church of Christ on Niles Road. Cremation will follow the service and burial of the ashes will be held in Millburg Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Church. The Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor is in charge of the arrangements.
Kathy was born on Aug. 20, 1957, in St. Joseph to Varney and Thelma Trumps. Kathy married her husband, Michael Conlin. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Kathy was kind and beautiful person.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Hooper; her father, Varney Trumps of Benton Harbor; her brothers, Ron Trumps of Kalamazoo, Danny Trumps of Kalamazoo and Roger Trumps of Hartford; her sister, Sandy Hastings of Hartford; and her four grandchildren, Shoun Bostic, Breanna Kahn, Brandon Kahn and Dalton Kahn.
She was also preceded in death by her mother, Thelma, her brother, David, and her sister, Rosie.
