James Henry Eaton Sr.
December 1, 1939 - December 30, 2012
James Henry Eaton, Sr., 73, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 of cancer. He was born on December 1, 1939 in Bryan, Ohio to Oscar Ward Eaton and Winifred (Hutchinson) Eaton.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, January 11, 2013 at Westley United Methodist Church, 903 Center Street, Bryan Ohio with Reverend Jeff Motter officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will be in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan Ohio. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
Jim graduated from Bryan High School, Bryan Ohio, in 1957. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from The Ohio State University in 1962 and a Master of Science Degree from Columbia University in 1965. On August 16, 1957 he married Judith Ann Newell of Byan OH. Jim enjoyed his time with the Ohio State University Marching Band - TBDBITL, dotting the “I” three times. He enjoyed travel overseas, both for pleasure and employment.
Jim is survived by his wife, Natalia whom he married on May 22, 2009, and his two sons, Jim Jr. (MaLinda) Eaton of Stevensville and Joe (Janet) Eaton of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren Mike (Nina), Rachel and Allison. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Jean (AJ) Goldsmith of Bryan, Ohio.
Janet Marie (Janca) Jackson
April 10, 1944 - December 25, 2012
Janet Marie (Janca) Jackson, 68, of Bridgman passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center, MI.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4 PM - 7 PM at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman, MI. The family will gather at a later date for a private graveside service at Graceland cemetery in Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given towards the needs of the family.
Janet was born April 10, 1944 in Michigan City, Indiana the daughter of the late Raymond and Valerie (Malcer) Janca. Janet graduated from Lake Michigan Catholic High School. She retired from Hilltop Foods in St. Joseph.
Survivors include her children - Rene Jackson Timmons of Bridgman, Tom (Amanda) Jackson of Tennessee; dear friend - Veronica Haack of Michigan City, Indiana; grandchildren - TJ, Andrew and Kristopher Jackson, Robbie Timmons, Sean and Devon Jackson, Ashley Timmons, Erin Jackson; an expected grandchild in July of 2013; and a sister - Diana Crescenzo of Pennsylvania.
Janet was also preceded by a grandson - Shamus Jackson.
Danney Eugene Brown
May 25, 1949 - December 13, 2012
Danney Eugene Brown, 63, of Benton Harbor passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Dan was born on May 25, 1949 in South Haven, the son of James Andrew and Edna Louise Brown. He graduated from Benton Harbor High school in 1967 and shortly after joined the United States Navy, where he served from 1968 to 1970. In 1971 he married Lidia Uricchio. For most of Dan’s life he lived and worked in Anaheim, CA. His lifelong profession was being a respiratory therapist and in 2001 he moved back to this area and took a job at Lakeland Regional Medical center where he worked for several years. Dan also worked in Detroit and Kalamazoo before retiring in 2011.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his son and daughter-in law, watching the LA Kings play hockey, wrestling with his great nieces, and playing bingo with his mother. Dan was also an avid golfer who loved beating his brothers and friends every chance he got. He cherished time spent with his family and was also a member of the Bridgman American Legion.
Dan is survived by his son, Daniel and (Emily) Brown of Portola Hills, CA; two brothers Tom and (Ellen) Brown of Bridgman, MI, Terry Brown and his companion, Trish Hines of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Patricia Polaskey and her companion, Howard Hope of St Joseph, MI; his mother Edna Louise Brown of Benton Harbor, MI; his ex wife, Lidia Brown of Foothill Ranch, CA and many nieces and nephews.
A cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made, in his name to the Bridgman American Legion’s Memorial Fund.
Harold Eugene Heckathorn
Harold Eugene Heckathorn, 56, of Bridgman passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date.
Harold was born June 1, 1956 in Niles, Michigan the son of the late Charles Edward and Marge (Cox) Heckathorn. On December 3, 1977 he married Ruth Ellen Burgoyne Together they owned and operated Happer’s Mart in New Troy for over 20 years. Harold was known as “Happer”.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ruth; Child - Nicole M.(Tracy) Holt of Johnson City, TN; sister - Dollie (Larry) Mead of KY; brother - Bill (Charlette) Heckathorn of TX; and his faithful canine companion, Abby.
Phyllis Jean Jones
September 5, 1932 - December 7, 2012
Phyllis Jean Jones, 80 of Bridgman passed away surrounded by all her family on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 12 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3903 Lake Street, Bridgman, with Father Arthur Howard as Celebrant. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, from 6-8 PM, where a Rosary will be offered at 7 PM. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to the Berrien County Cancer Service.
Mrs. Jones was born September 5, 1932 in Lansing, Ohio the daughter of the late Wack and Victoria (Karwoski) Brumback. On August 7, 1954 she married Robert E. Jones, Sr. Phyllis was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Robert “Bob”; six children - Robert (Denise) Jones, Jr. of Epping, NH, Deborah (Lee) Roberts of Ann Arbor, John (Laurie) Jones of New Berlin, WI, Joseph (Kelly) Jones of New Carlisle, IN, Deanna (Brad) Davis of Bridgman and Michael (Tammy) Jones of Huntersville, NC; 19 grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren; three sisters - Virginia (Russ) Layne, Patricia Girts and Vivian Ritz all of Shadyside, Ohio
Phyllis was also preceded in death by two sisters - Irene Brumback and Eleanor Burns and a brother - Bernard Brumback.
Dr. Neal Gordon Smith
May 11, 1958 - August 31, 2012
Neal Gordon Smith D.D.S., 54, of Bridgman, graduated to heaven on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home after a long journey with illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Woodland Shores Baptist Church, 3555 Shawnee Road, Bridgman with Reverend James D. Liske officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman. Memorial contributions may be given to Storyline Mission Experience so others can serve those who need to hear about Jesus around the world.
Neal was born May 11, 1958 in St. Joseph to Dale and Bobbie Smith. Neal was blessed to marry the love of his life Patricia “Trish” Dial in 1980 who partnered with him to rear five children with the goal to impact their community.
He was a founding member of Woodland Shores Baptist Church and Storyline Church. One focus of his ministry was overseas dental missions to Russia where he set up seven dental clinics starting when it was part of the Soviet Union. He also taught and treated in Mexico, Romania, Singapore, and Zambia. The highlight was experiencing it with his family so others could directly experience the love of God.
Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School and returned home to wonderful Bridgman to join Dale in dental practice at Bridgman Family Dental Care in 1984. The practice grew to serve many and receive national awards. His joy was keeping people healthy and comfortable.
He is survived by his wife Trish, Britton (Michelle) Smith, Grant (Jenni) Smith, Whitney (Tyler) Luther, Karsten and Collin. He is blessed with four grandsons Lane, Corbin, Caleb and Eli. Also his parents Dale and Bobbie Smith and in laws Dwain and Ginny Dial as well as brother Karl (Jamie) Smith and sister Joan (David) Sorensen.
Evelyn Stark
May 18, 1912 - August 20, 2010
ST. JOSEPH - Evelyn Eleanor Stark, 98, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, at Royalton Manor.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, August 23, 2010 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Rev. B. Gordon Barry officiating. Friends may meet with the family on Monday from 1 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery.
Evelyn was born May 18, 1912 in Chicago the daughter of the late Otto and Amanda (Wicklund) Carlson. In the 1930's Evelyn owned/operated her own three chair beauty salon. She loved life and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with gusto.
Survivors include two children – Judy (Nick) Weingart of Stevensville and William (Martha) Stark of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren - Doug (Robin) Weingart of Bridgman, Gerald (Chris) and James (Dawn) Weingart of Elkhart, IN, Emily Ann Stark of Phoenix, AZ, and Alex Paul Stark of Cary, IL; and six great grandchildren - Andy, Ben, Ryan, Jenny, Nick and Cris.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her husband G. Herbert Stark, one brother - Robert O. Carlson and a sister Ruth Lindgren.
Lorraine Ann Vytiska
March 22, 1925 - September 11, 2014
Lorraine Ann Vytiska, 89, of New Buffalo passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman with Reverend Christopher Noffke officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10 - 11 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
Lorraine was born March 22, 1925 in Berwyn, Illinois, the only child of the late James J. and Anna (Petrak) Vytiska. Lorraine graduated from Morton High School in Cicero, Illinois and worked as a care giver most of her life for her mother. She summered in New Buffalo and the last twenty years has been a fulltime resident.
Survivors include her cousins.
