Lannie McAfee
BENTON HARBOR - Lannie McAfee passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at home. Lannie was born May 3, 1936, to Marshall and Lillie Johnson in Baker, La. Lannie and her family relocated to Eau Claire, in 1952. In 1957 she married Rev. W.L. McAfee. To this union there were four children. Lannie worked as a Nursing Assistant at Parkway Manor and retired from there in 1974. In 1974, Lannie united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she remained a faithful and a dedicated member.
She leaves to mourn her passing, five children, Carolyn (Tommie) Jones, Linda (Philip) Franklin, Rochelle (Melvin) Judson of Benton Harbor, Willard (Marthena) McAfee of Lithonia, Ga., and Donald Ray McAfee of Muskegon, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Geneva Colvin; six stepchildren, Johnnie (Diane) McAfee of Sacramento, Calif., Malita Brown, Stanley Stanford, Yolanda Brown and David (Emily) Stanford, all of Shreveport, La., and Rachel McAfee of Muskegon. Lannie raised eight of her nieces and nephews as her own, Sharon Townes, Joyce Hines, Eddie Glaspy, Dontae Long, Robert Johnson Jr., Patricia Doss, Larry Johnson Jr. and Fannie Ray.
Lannie was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert McAfee, two sisters; six brothers.
Lannie leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A viewing will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 10, a wake will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church Benton Harbor. Internment Crystal Springs Cemetery.
Margaret K. Labs
BANGOR - Margaret K. Labs, 90, of Bangor passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
She was born May 13, 1918, in Kalamazoo, to Herman and Illa (Buckley) Labs. Margaret lived in Kalamazoo for 25 years before she moved to the family farm where she lived for the rest of her life. Margaret enjoyed country living where she raised and loved many animals especially her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Illa Labs; brother, Carlos (Ann) Labs; sister, Dorothy (Bill) Johnson; and brother, Sonny Labs; and niece, Daryle Rassmuson.
She is survived by her sister, Helen (Bill) Rands; many nieces and nephews.

Charles B. O'Grady
LAKESIDE - Charles B. O'Grady, 61, of Lakeside died Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
Charles was born May 5, 1947, in St. Joseph. He graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1966 and continued his education at Ferris State University; Michigan State University; and by taking classes while he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Charles earned a degree in acting and took part in reenactments of the French / Indian War in his younger years. He was employed as a Private Investigator with Pinkerton's in Grand Rapids and Niles and later worked at Forest Lawn Landfill in Three Oaks. Charles was in the Merchant Marines for 10 years. He liked being on the water and was a Crewman on Columbus' Nina when it sailed the Great Lakes. Charles enjoyed good conversation, reading Pirate novels, and smoking White Owl miniatures.
He is survived by his best friend and loving companion, Vickie Magnuson; his stepsister, Mary Jane Carlson; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mildred (Nelson) O'Grady.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at Lakeside Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Gault officiating. Military Honors will be presented by Randall Couchman American Legion Post 204, Three Oaks.
Charlotte Schultz Gould
SOUTH HAVEN - Charlotte Schultz Gould, 83, of South Haven passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at South Haven Community Hospital.
She was born May 12, 1925, in Kibbie, Mich., to Charles and Eleanor (Shotz) Schultz. As a young girl, Charlotte was an outdoors girl enjoying hunting, trapping and fishing. As an adult Charlotte liked to camp with her daughter and friends, hunting mushrooms, agates and Petoskey stones. Charlotte was always a hard worker and independent. Charlotte worked at Bohn Aluminum during World War II. She also worked at S.E. Overton, Ashen's Steak House, The Party Basket and the Depot. After retiring, Charlotte enjoyed reading, crosswords, travel and her flower gardens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allan Gould; daughter, Linda Nelson; two brothers, Bill and Bud Schultz; and one sister, Lorraine Foley.
She is survived by one son, David (Beverly) Gould of Benton Harbor; daughter, Suzan (Gary) Sarabyn of Coloma; sister, Lenore McNees; son-in-law, Keith Nelson of South Haven; her extended family, the Kok's, Laura, Charlotte and Kristina of Jenison, Mich.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Burial will take place in Stephenson Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made Multiple Myeloma Foundation.
Doris Kelley
PLAINWELL - Doris Kelley of Plainwell passed away April 7, 2009, at Bronson Hospital. She was born March 4, 1913 in Kalamazoo, to the late Louis and Nellie Peters. Doris was united in marriage to John A. Kelley for a loving 48 years, who preceded her in death in 1982. She retired from Cadillac Overall Supply in 1978 after 20 years of service as a seamstress.
She was a member of the Kalamazoo Westside Lions Club for many years. She enjoyed her yard and garden. She also enjoyed working on many different craft projects.
Surviving Doris are her children, Richard "Dick" Kelley of Covert, Joan (Jim) Mallory of Kalamazoo and Jean (Eugene) Riggs of Battle Creek; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Andrew, Albert, Clarence and Donald Peters.
A visitation will be today, April 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, where services will also take place Friday at 1 p.m. Pastor Kevin Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in East Cooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Westside Lions Club or to Hospice of SW Michigan.
Robert Michael Dyer
BANGOR - Robert Michael Dyer, 52, of Bangor died Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Port Richey, Fla.
He was born July 27, 1956, in Watervliet, to Robert Charles and Mildred Lucille (Moore) Dyer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Charles Dyer.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Dyer and daughter, Theresa Dyer, both of Cassopolis; and his mother, Mildred Dyer of Covert.
There are no services scheduled at this time.

Mary E. Stewart
BENTON HARBOR - Mary Elizabeth Stewart, 90, of Elgin, Ill., formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away on April 4, 2009, in Elgin.
Mary was born Jan. 16, 1919, to the union of Dan and Mary Bell Knight in Ruth, Miss.
To cherish her memory are daughters, Dorothy Marshall, Missionary Alma George Butler, both of Benton Harbor, Armor (John) Stohol of Phoenix, Ariz., Ernestine (Leon) Williams of Elgin, Linda (Tyron) Harris of Rockford, Ill.; sons, Isiah (Barbara) Stewart of Elgin, Levon Stewart of Elgin, Larry (Carol) Stewart of Covert, Elder Cleath (Valerie) Stewart of Lansing, Ill.; 35 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; brother, Friday Knight of Springfield, Mo.; sisters, Corrine Broadnax of Chicago, Lurenza Knight of Shreveport, La., and Carrie Nickelberry of California.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Second Baptist Church, Elgin.
Ella LaMantia
BENTON HARBOR - Ella LaMantia, 102, of Benton Harbor died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Willows Assisted Living in St. Joseph.
A Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Benton Township with Fr. Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Arrangements are by the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph.
Ella was born on July 22, 1906, in Chicago to Leo and Carmilla Farina. She married her husband, Tony LaMantia, on Feb. 26, 1930, in Chicago.
He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2000.
Together they celebrated 70 years of marriage. She was a member of the St. John & Bernard Parish. Ella was a loving grandmother and great grandmother and had wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, Annette (John) Falkner of St. Joseph and John (Louise) LaMantia of St. Joseph; her six grandchildren, Anthony LaMantia, Lori (Don) DeWitt, Debbie (Pat) Curtis, Angie (Ben) Donaldson, Linda Christy, Kathy Christy; and her eight great-grandchildren.
