Leonard Hollar

Leonard G. Hollar, 81, of Spring Lake and Florida, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Fort Myers, Fla.
He was born April 17, 1922, to Bernard and Ida (Denhof) Hollar in Muskegon. He married his first wife, Doris, on July 18, 1946, in Spring Lake. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1984. He married Leona VanSlooten on Aug. 8, 1986, in Spring Lake.
Mr. Hollar spent his winters in Florida and summers in Spring Lake. He retired from Bastian Blessing. He was a charter member of the Ferrysburg Christian Reformed Church and recently transferred to Hope Reformed Church in Grand Haven. He was a lifetime member of the Scottville Clown Band, belonged to the Grand Haven American Legion Post and served his country during World War II with the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; two sons, Tom (Susan) Hollar of Muskegon and Terry (Shelley) Hollar of Grand Haven; step-children: Judi (Bob) Riemersma of Fountain, Scott (Sandy) VanSlooten of Hudsonville and Paul (Donna) VanSlooten of Holland; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Sam) Potratz of Fruitport; a brother, Nick (Myna) Hollar of Muskegon; and a sister-in-law, Bertie Dykema of Esteru, Fla.

A funeral service for Mr. Hollar will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Hope Reformed Church with Rev. Arnold VanBeek officiating. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday 5-9 p.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad in Grand Haven. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Donna Carskadon

Donna J. Carskadon, 71, of West Olive died Sunday July 27, 2003, in Grand Haven.
She was born Dec. 4, 1931, to Harold and Donnie (Chambers) Carskadon in Grand Haven.
She was a life resident and had worked as an L.P.N. at North Ottawa Community Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, former president of the Michigan L.P.N. Association and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two brothers: James (Sandra) Carskadon and Harold Carskadon, both of West Olive. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy.
Arrangements are being handled by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad of Grand Haven.
A memorial Mass for Donna will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. James Bozung as celebrant. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials to Cancer Society or St. Mary's Church are appreciated.

Brent R. Bolton, 34, of Spring Lake died unexpectedly Friday, July 25, 2003, in Milan, Mich.
He was born June 25, 1969, in Grand Haven to Richard and Beverly (Retzlaff) Bolton.
Mr. Bolton was formerly employed as assistant manager at the Grand Haven Burger King and prior to that as a landscaper at Grand Haven Garden House. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed music and writing, arts and crafts and had an interest in photography.
He is survived by his parents; Beverly (Jerry) Warner of Spring Lake and Richard (Sharon) Bolton of Grand Haven; two sisters, Amy (Brian) Churchill of North Muskegon and Dasha Bolton of Grand Haven; two brothers, Derek Bolton of Grand Haven and Adam Warner of Orlando, Fla. and also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service for Brent will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad in Grand Haven with Rev. Richard Rhem officiating. Friends may meet the family Monday 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorials to a charity of your choice are appreciated.

Johnathan Uhas
Played football with Tri-Cities Mariners League
Johnathan R. Uhas, 13, of Grand Haven died Friday, July 25, 2003 as a result of an auto accident.
He was born Nov. 11, 1989 to Allen and Laurie (Sweet) Uhas in Grand Rapids.
Johnathan was an 8th grade student at Lakeshore Middle School and played football with the Tri-Cities Mariners League. He enjoyed hunting, dirt bikes and paintball.
Survivors include his parents Allen and Laurie of Grand Haven, grandparents Marion Sweet of Grand Haven and Joann Uhas of Nanticoke, PA; two brothers, Allen and Jacob, both at home; two aunts; Linda (Ben) Pierceof Grand Haven and Kathy (Bob) Thompson of Kingston, Pa. and an uncle Steven (Susan) Uhas of Bear Creek, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Larry Sweet and Steven Uhas.

A funeral service for Johnathan will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Dan Duncan officiating. Joseph D. Jackson II, 56, of Muskegon died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 3, 1947, to Joseph D. and B. Louise (Moreland) Jackson in Anderson, Ind. He married Brenda L. (Bowman) Shepard on Feb. 29, 1984.
Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Utah State University in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in photography and marketing design. He worked as a national park ranger at the Grand Canyon's North Rim Park during the summer while attending college. He moved to Salt Lake City and was a manager for a large photo finishing lab, Aardvark & Sons, and also owned a photography studio. Mr. Jackson moved to Muskegon in 1981, where he worked for Radium Photo and later managed Photo Express. He opened his own studio in 1989, specializing in commercial work, and became well-known in the business community. Mr. Jackson was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and professional photographers associations. He taught photography classes at Muskegon Community College. He enjoyed nature photography, backpacking trips in the Grand Canyon and Utah, and family camping trips.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda; sons, Zachary, at home, and Adam (fiancee Amanda Tober) Shepard of Fruitport; grandson, Jonathan Shepard; granddaughter, Karley Briggs; parents, Joe and Louise Jackson of Muskegon; sister, Charleen "Cricket" (Paul) Livers of Muskegon, and their son, Matthew; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Bowman of Muskegon; sisters-in-law, Linda (Charles) Cihak of North Muskegon and Sherri Bowman of Dallas, Texas; two nephews; three nieces-in-law; former daughter-in-law, Donna Shepard of Muskegon; and many relatives in Kentucky and friends in Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ellis "Al" Bowman, in 1988; and son, Ryan Shepard, on April 30, 1999.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana County so they may continue the excellent care they provide families. Joe's family wishes to recognize his primary caregivers, Paula, Mary and Stephanie, for the loving care they provided.

Kenneth DeCan Served in the National Guard
Kenneth E. DeCan, 73, of Spring Lake died Monday, March 31, 2003, at a local hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1929, to Carl and Erma (Stark) DeCan in Nunica. He married Evelyn M. Zimmer in Marne on Nov. 9, 1949.
Mr. DeCan was an area resident most of his life and had served in the National Guard. He worked for Camfield's for nine years, Gardner-Denver for 25 years and Shape Corp. for eight years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a coach for the Tri-Cities Kids Little League for five years, and an umpire and president of the board of directors for the league for several years. His interests included fishing, hunting and trapping; and he was a fan of Spring Lake baseball and football teams.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evelyn; six daughters: Debra (Rich) Koschik of Kingwood, Texas, Denise Goven of Muskegon Heights, Darcie (Jeff) Timmins of Ferrysburg, Doreen (Larry) Muller of Nunica, Dawn (Rick) Lyons of Kapasvar, Hungary, and Darla (Tim) Ashcraft of Portage; his son, Kenneth E. (Lynda) DeCan Jr. of Holland; son-in-law, Tom (Shirley) Owen of Fruitport; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his mother, Erma Torok of Ferrysburg; mother-in-law, Alma Zimmer of Conklin; two sisters, Linda Murphy of Fruitport and Marie Van Oeffelen of Ravenna; two brothers, Harold (JoAnn) DeCan of Ferrysburg and Gordy (Vicki) DeCan of Nunica; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Owen; father, Carl DeCan; sister, Alice Aldred; and brothers: Lyle, Loyd and Clyde DeCan.
A funeral service for Mr. DeCan will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Anthony Vainavicz as celebrant. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
