JB Spruell
January 19, 1935 - June 11, 2010
JB Spruell, 75, of Hartford, passed away in the presence of his family at home on Friday, June 11, 2010.
JB was born January 19, 1935 in Marktree, Arkansas, the second of five children of Raymond and Myrtle (Williams) Spruell. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1955 where he had won a number of awards for his artwork. His love of drawing continued on throughout his life. He and the former Thelma Grayam were married on Sept. 4, 1970 and later renewed their vows on Aug. 28, 1993. JB worked as a conductor and loved his work on the railroad. He also enjoyed bowling.
Mr. Spruell is survived by his wife Thelma; daughter Jamie (Jon) Weber of St. Joseph, MI; sons Price (Judy) Bradshaw of Keeler, MI and Andrew (Tammy) Bradshaw of Hartford, MI; three sisters, Mary Coulter of Henderson, Nevada, Georgia Thomas of Benton Harbor, MI, and Nita (Clete) Brummel of St. Joseph, MI; brother-in-law Price Grayam, eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; two great grandchildren who are on their way and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother RC Spruell.
JB and the family sincerely appreciated the love, help and support they received from their friends at Hospice over the past several months. Special thanks go out to Kande, Mandy, Marjie, Nancy, Renee, Stephanie, Victoria, Whitney, Dr. Drake and Dr. Beckrow.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Rev. Richard Kiser will preside. Burial will follow in Keeler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or the Red Arrow General Baptist Church.
PAT LEFON
February 5, 1944 - June 8, 2010
Pat Lefon, 66 of Coloma passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her family.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Pat was born February 5, 1944 in Benton Harbor to William and Ruth (Dame) Fain. She was formerly employed by Wal-Mart in South Haven as Department Manager. Pat enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing crafts.
Survivors include her son Brian (Karen) Lefon of Covert; her daughter Kim (Mark) Ronderos of Coloma; four grandchildren, Jamie and Kandice Agee, Leah (Billy) Cochran, and Darrell Lefon; five great grandchildren, Lily Lefon and Konrad, Dominic, Logan and Zoey Cochran; three sisters Bonnie (Harold) Gast of Coloma, Alice Main of Coloma, Sandy (Lynn) Morris of Watervliet; and two brothers Charles (Mary) Fain of Watervliet and Carl (Charlene) Fain of Hartford.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband Darrell June 29, 2009, two brothers William and Robert Fain, and her parents.
Robert J. Rittmeyer
December 6, 1940 - December 15, 2009
Robert J. Rittmeyer, 69 of Coloma died Tuesday, December 15, at his residence.
Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, December 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St Joseph. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Coloma Cemetery. Following the committal service the family will receive friends at a luncheon provided in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran Church. Robert was born Dec 6, 1940 in Chicago to Ervin and Juanita (Bourne) Rittmeyer. He had served in the US Coast Guard and was employed by the Berrien County Health Dept, retiring in 2001. Bob was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Economics Club, and the Paw Paw Lake Yacht Club. He truly loved nature, the outdoors and being around his grandchildren, whether it was at one of their sporting events or fishing on Paw Paw Lake. Visiting national parks and traveling across the US with his wife was something he treasured.
Survivors include his wife Beverly whom he married May 24, 1996; four step sons, Terry (Kim) Barinka of St Joseph, Lou (Rachelle) Barinka of Dallas, Tim (Mary) Barinka of Austin, MN, Shawn (Lisa) Barinka of Mesa, AZ, and four step daughters, Jan (Mark) Booth of Mesa, AZ, Fay (Kevin) Keane of East Jordan, MI, Cathy (David) Schaffer of St Joseph, and Christine Schares of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving are 15 step grandchildren and good friends Felicia and Jim Healy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Betty.
Patricia Fay Wong
MARCH 17, 1959 - DECEMBER 9, 2009
Patricia Fay Wong, 50, of Coloma, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Cremation has taken place and a private family service has been held.
Patricia was born March 17, 1959 in New York City, NY to Robin and Carol (Ainsworth) Wong. She was baptized Seventh Day Adventist. Patricia earned her bachelors degree from Andrews University and worked locally as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Patricia is survived by her father, Robin (Nancy) Wong of Singapore; her mother Carol Wong of Berrien Springs, MI; her half-brother Ronald Wong of Singapore; her boyfriend, Douglas Fox Sr. and his children Wendy Fox, Angie Dalbec, Doug Fox Jr. and Jenny Fox.
She was preceded in death by her sister Noel Lynne Wong.
THOMAS M MULLER
November 26, 1951 - December 9, 2009
Thomas Michael Muller, 58 of Hartford went to be with His savior unexpectedly on December 9, 2009.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Visitation will be held Monday, December 14th from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Tom was born on November 26, 1951 in Benton Harbor to Michael and Evelyn (Schadler) Muller. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1969. Tom received an associate degree in Electrical Engineering from Lake Michigan College in 1971. He graduated in the top of his class.
Tom served his Country in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974. He was stationed in Key West, Florida and worked in the field of electronics. He married the love of his life, Pamala Carol Prince on June 28, 1975 in Hartford at the Federated Church. Tom was a foreman at AEP and was employed there for 34 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the NRA. Tom went to Alaska and Canada hunting and in 2007 he also went on a Safari to Africa for one month. It was a life long dream that he had. He enjoyed taking his boat out in Lake Michigan. In the winter months he especially loved ice fishing at Maple Lake in Paw Paw.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pam; his son, Michael (Maria) Muller of Hartford; daughter, Christine (David) Rainwater of Dowagiac; twin sister, Carol Cartwright of Hartford, four granddaughters, Cheyanne, Melissa, Emily and Allie and several nieces and nephews. Tom loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be missed by those who knew him.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Evelyn Muller.
Ernest Richard Hasselbring
November 21, 1926 - December 5, 2009
Ernest (Ernie) R. Hasselbring, passed away Saturday evening, December 5, 2009 at the age of 83.
He was the first child born to Ernest F. and Gertrude (Lenz), 21 November 1926 in Hammond, Indiana. He spent the majority of his living and going to school in the Hammond-Calumet City area. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. He married Carmen Redenour and together they raised two wonderful children, Kimberly and Ernest F. Ernie and Carmen parted after their children were grown. Sometime later, Ernie met Judy (Callendar) Kroening. They were married on March 28, 1978 and spent 31 years together.
Ernie worked in Hammond as Warehouse Manager for Edward C. Minas Department Stores. He was a member of the Teamsters. After his retirement, he moved to Michigan, where Judy resided. He worked at the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in downtown Coloma until he retired a second time in 1998, due to illness. Ernie was a Life Member of the Ameraican Legion Post in Coloma.
Before his illness in 1998, he was an avid golfer. Ernie learned to enjoy camping, fishing, reading license plates, and spending winters in Okeechobee, Florida, where he loved visiting with people from all over and fishing trips to the Upper Penninsula. His big joy was being with people. He loved his family, especially his two great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, sister Ruth Marquardt, brothers, Henry and Paul, his children, Kim Wadlington, Eva Markham, Ernest F. (Karen), Lynn (Ray) Griffin, Janet (Clinton) King, grandchildren- Hannah (Billie) Boone, H. C. Wadlington, Ernest F. Hasselbring III, Kristin Ann Hasselbring, Angie Wadlington, Heather, Nicholas, and Dennis Griffin, great grandson, H. C. (Tripp) Wadlington III, brothers-in-law Gary (Barbara) Callendar, Virgil (Jean) Callendar and a host of neices, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Frederick Hasselbring, sister-in-law, Joan Hasselbring, and a beloved granddaughter, Claudia Faye Wadlington and her very best friend, Riley Jane Lawrence.
In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from noon until 1:00 P.M. (EST) with a memorial service at 1:00 P.M. at Duffield & Pastrick Funeral home in Coloma, on Saturday, December 12. BETTY J. UMPHREY
December 12, 1937 - May 24, 2013
Betty J. Umphrey of Benton Harbor, went to be with her Lord after a lengthy illness on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St Joseph.

Betty was born December 12, 1937 in Benton Harbor to Chester and Alberta (Holmes) Munson. She was formerly employed by True Love Roses in Benton Harbor. Betty enjoyed quilting, crafts, crocheting, cooking, canning of fruits, vegetables, and jellies, playing cards, garage sales, computer games, collecting tea cups, and especially spending time with family in Upper Michigan during mushroom season which is now.
Survivors include her husband Duane whom she married May 11, 1957, a daughter Linda Westfall and two sons David and Darren Umphrey, all of Benton Harbor; five grandchildren, Todd and Amy Grassow, Julia, Hailey and Spencer Umphrey; a great granddaughter Kendra L. Gillan; three nieces, three nephews, and great family friends Rojane Jesper and Betty Zilke who helped with her care, .
She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Munson, sister Barbara Jennings, and sister in law and brother in law Joanne and Lindsay Rutter.
