Agnes G. 'Kitty' Loughmiller
ST. JOSEPH - God decided he needed another angel so he took Kitty, 83, home to rest on May 1, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Per Kitty's wishes, cremation will take place and there will be a private family burial at Riverview Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice at Home, St. Joseph.
Kitty was born to Albert and Grace Kitson on Aug. 31, 1925, in Methuen, Mass. On Sept. 28, 1946, she married the love of her life and soul mate, Jim Loughmiller. Together, they embarked on the life and adventures of being a career Navy family, eventually settling down in St. Joseph in June, 1962.
Kitty was a lifelong waitress and retired in 1989 from Tosi's Restaurant after working there as one of the original "Tosi gals" for 27 years. The greatest joy she received in life was being around her family; she was so devoted and proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved nothing better than to be at any family event, especially on holidays, surrounded by her family. The next best thing that Kitty loved to do was to play bingo and always got so excited to be able to yell "BINGO"!
She is survived by her children, James Keith (Peggy) Loughmiller II of Benton Harbor and Patricia (RJ) Ott of Sawyer; son-in-law, Russell Terwilliger of Ovid, Mich.; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jason) Patterson, James Keith (Amber Woods) Loughmiller III, Samantha Terwilliger and Chelsea Ott; great-grandchildren, Miranda Patterson, Gabriella Patterson and Alexander Loughmiller; sister, Grace Aldrich of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jim Loughmiller, on Dec. 31, 1993; and her daughter, Darlene Terwilliger, on Sept. 7, 2006.
Francis J. 'Frank' Lash
SOUTH HAVEN - Francis J. "Frank" Lash, 66, of South Haven died peacefully at home on May 2, 2009.
Frank was born on June 26, 1942, in Chicago to Frank and Marie Lash. Frank spent his early years of life in Chicago and met his love of his life Carol and married in 1962. In 1967 they moved to South Haven. Frank volunteered his time to entertain others with the accordion at the Warren Center, The Dank, Village Market "Fat Tuesday", Weddings and many other special occasions. Frank was also a member of the "Strudel Meisters" German band. Frank was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church and became the first Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the praise band called the Joyful Noise on the bluff. Frank was an active member of the Moose Lodge 697 for a number of years. Frank enjoyed dancing with his wife, coaching his children in sports to making polish pierogies.
Frank worked for the South Haven Rubber Company upon first arriving to South Haven, Michigan to retiring from the South Haven Post office after 30 years of service.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson.
Frank is survived by his wife, Carol Lash who just celebrated 47 years of marriage in February 2009, of South Haven. Frank has eight wonderful children with his wife Carol - Frank Lash, Karen (James) Schnake and Catherine (Rob) Lash Dillard, all of South Haven, Michigan, Debra (Todd) Holubar of Allegan, Theresa (Eric) Conroy of Jacksonville, Fla., Annette (Dewayne) Leadingham and Mark (Leslie) Lash, both of South Haven, and Carolyn (Robert) Brown of Grand Rapids; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He leaves behind one sister, Lottie Baker in McHenry, Ill.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Basil Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Basil Nights of Columbus or South Haven Moose Lodge 697.
Beverly Lynn Sullivan
NEW BUFFALO - Beverly Lynn Sullivan, 61, of New Buffalo, formerly of Chicago, died at LaPorte Hospital, Saturday, May 2, 2009. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home of New Buffalo.
Beverly was born May 9, 1947, in Evergreen Park, Ill., to Bert and Mary (Harrington) Jacobs. She moved to the New Buffalo area from Chicago in 1994. Beverly truly loved New Buffalo and its people. She was very active in town. Beverly was the owner and operator of the Clipper Ship Gallery. She as a member of the New Buffalo Planning Commission, and a Board member of the New Buffalo Business Association. She will be missed by many.
Beverly is survived by her son, Paul Sullivan of New Buffalo; her fiancé of many years, Burt Fry; a brother, Bert (Cathy) Jacobs of Western Springs, Ill.; and a sister, Joan (Jim) Ramp of LaGrange, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Mary, and her husband, Gary Paul Sullivan, in 1986.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 8, at 1 p.m., at the Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home in New Buffalo. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service.
Bentley K. Roberts
BUCHANAN - Bentley K. Roberts, 71, of Buchanan, died at 2:42 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, at home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Calvary Tabernacle, 606 North Elm Street, Three Oaks, with Pastor Brad Payne officiating. Burial will be in South Central Cemetery in Wisner, La. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Tabernacle. Memorials may be made to Calvary Tabernacle, Three Oaks.
Mr. Roberts was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Tallua, La., and lived here since 1967. He was an iron worker and a pastor and was a member of Iron Workers Union No. 292, South Bend, Ind. Bentley was a member of Calvary Tabernacle of Three Oaks and was involved in United Pentecostal Church International.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter C. Roberts and Leona Cobb Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Roberts, whom he married on May 3, 1968, in Union Pier, Mich.; five sons, Kenneth (Sunny) Roberts of Los Angeles, Kevin Roberts of Clear Water, Fla., Brian (Jaqueline) Roberts of Buchanan, Anthony (Ronica) Roberts of Dechard, Tenn., and Wayne (Connie) Davis of Hartford; six grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Roberts and Henry Roberts, both of Wisner; and five sisters, Velma Tuberville of Childersberg, Ala., Shirley Hoggett and Shelia Ferrington, both of Wisner, Carrie Mae Nolan of Jonesville, La., and Lou Giddens of Monroe, La.
Michael Hudson
BERRIEN CENTER - Michael Hudson, 62, of Berrien Center passed away April 27, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
Mr. Hudson was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Berrien Springs. He was employed at Accu Spec Inc., Stevensville.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Johnson, and his brother, Harold Johnson.
He leaves behind to mourn, his daughters, Lori Fowler and Michaelyn Nikki Fowler of Grand Rapids; his mother, Mamie Stegall of Benton Harbor; his brothers, Calvin (Henrietta) Stegall of Benton Harbor, Melvin Stegall of the Philippines, Charles "Pee Wee" Harris of Grand Rapids; sisters, Diane Fort and Alfreda Armstrong, both of Benton Harbor, Jackie (Charles) Archie and Roxann Crawford, both of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sam Rushtin of Murrieta, Calif., and Robbie Robbins of South Bend, Ind.
Services will be held at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor, Wednesday, May 6, at 11 a.m.
Cecile Van Eyk
ST. JOSEPH - Cecile Van Eyk, age 85, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of St. Joseph, died April 27, 2009, following a long and courageous battle with illness.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1923, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She graduated from nursing school during World War II, after which she married and settled in St. Joseph to raise her family. As a Registered Nurse, she worked both in hospitals and in private practice in the area. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in St. Joseph, and upon moving to Arizona in 1979, was welcomed as a member of the First Congregational Church of Tempe. She served on many church committees, however it was obvious that working in the nursery was her favorite.
Cecile is survived by her daughter, Gale (and her husband John) Kelemen; two grandchildren, John Kelemen and Gayle Snible; and her great-granddaughter, Charlotte Snible.
Cecile had chosen cremation with no memorial service. If desired, memorial donations may be sent to: The Orignial Endowment Fund, First Congregational Church UCC, 101 East 6th Street, Tempe, AZ 85281.
Stanley Steve Janco Sr.
ST. JOSEPH - Stanley Steve Janco Sr., age 81, formerly of St. Joseph, died at his home in Valrico, Fla., on April 6, 2009.
He retired from Whirlpool over 22 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army in his youth and was recently a faithful volunteer at the VFW in Brandon, Fla., for many years.
Stan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carrie of Valrico, Fla.; four children - Patricia Christopher (Paul) of Sawyer, Stanley Janco Jr. (Jane) of Kalamazoo, Mary Breach (Kevin) of Santee, Calif., and David Janco (Daniela) of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Nuccio of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dorothy Fountain (Louie) of South Haven.
Eugene 'Geno' F. Dulik Sr.
SOUTH HAVEN - Eugene "Geno" F. Dulik Sr., 83, of South Haven, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
He was born May 29, 1925, in New York, N.Y., to John and Catherine (Yurick) Dulik. He married Rose Capaccio on Nov. 8, 1952, in Chicago, Ill. Geno worked at South Haven Public Schools for 17 years as a custodian and a bus driver. Geno worked at South Haven Rubber Company from 1969 to 1979. He was a bridge tender for 21 years for the City of South Haven. Geno was very active in South Haven Community Sports as an umpire for baseball and softball and the first down crew. Geno was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He also was a member of the South Haven Moose Lodge. Geno was also an author of poems.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, who died May 8, 2008.
He is survived by his three sons - Eugene F. (Linda) Dulik Jr. of North Port, Fla., John A. Dulik of South Haven and Paul A. (Kieran) Dulik of Kouts, Ind.; two daughters, Barb A. Hulsey of Searcy, Ark., and Georgia J. Boyd of South Haven; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law - Clair Capaccio, Rose Mary Capaccio and Jennie Capaccio; brothers-in-law, Nick Capaccio and Joe Capaccio; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Basil Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place in McDowell Cemetery, Casco Township.
