Joseph A. Singleton
BENTON HARBOR - Joseph A. Singleton, 84, of Benton Harbor, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, following an illness.
A military graveside service is scheduled for 1:30 pm Monday, May 4, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Legacy Family Funeral Services - Matthew R. Joseph was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Louisiana. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He had resided in the Twin Cities area since the 1950s. He was talented in many trades and worked for several area contractors over the years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Benton Harbor.
Survivors include his four sons - Joseph A. Singleton Jr. of Flint, Mich., Jeremy Singleton of Bradford, Pa., James Singleton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ira Singleton of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters - Louise of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Leslie of Benton Harbor; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Donald A. Ross
PAW PAW - Don passed away Thursday evening, April 30, 2009, at Bronson LakeView Hospital, Paw Paw.
He was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Allegan, the son of the late Lee and Alvina (Freeman) Ross. Don was a veteran of the Korean War and wounded in action serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. Don was employed as an electrician at Duo-Tang Products, loved farming, hunting, the wildlife on his farm and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a member of the Paw Paw-Lawton Lodge 25 F&AM, and when he was able, he was a very active member of the Paw Paw Lions and Paw Paw Elks Lodge.
On Dec. 24, 1953, in Dowagiac, Don was united in marriage to Barbara J. Hiler, who preceded him in death on July 7, 1984. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur.
Surviving are a son, Bob (Lois) Ross of Lawrence; two daughters, Julie (Brian) Rumsey of Paw Paw and Cathy (Gary) Esman of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; sister, Virginia Owsiany of Paw Paw; and one niece and two nephews.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw, where funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Spackman of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Wildey Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
Mary Rose Hirsch
STEVENSVILLE - Mary Rose Hirsch, 85, of Stevensville, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial luncheon is planned at Roma's Restaurant, Michigan-139, St. Joseph, on Monday, May 4, from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association.
Mary Rose was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in Benton Harbor, to John and Florence (Hoban) Bury. She married Floyd Hirsch in Benton Harbor in August of 1945.
Mary Rose is survived by her son, William (Pamela) Hirsch of St. Joseph; her daughter, Joanne (Hirsch) Baker of Mountain View, Calif.; five grandchildren - Joseph (Debbie) Baker, Heather (James) Hirsch-Mann, Lisa Hirsch, Sarah Hirsch and Ryan (Katie) Hirsch; three great grandchildren - Alex Baker, Joshua Baker and Elizabeth Mann; and her sister, Anna Katherine Yugovich of Fond du Lac, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Jack and Glenn Bury.
Ricky Daniel Darr
HUDSON, Mich. - Ricky Daniel Darr, 60, of Hudson, passed away, Thursday, April 30, 2009, at his home.
He was born April 30, 1949, in Dowagiac, to Herman and Shirley
(Morland) Darr. On Dec. 31, 1977, he married Sally Fick in Tecumseh, and she survives. Ricky loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Morenci Sportsman Club and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Herman of Dowagiac; three daughters - Tracy Darr of Hudson, Amy Darr of Hudson and April Darr of Toledo; one brother, Randy (Laura) Darr of Paw Paw; four sisters - Sandy (Gary) Emrhein of Richmond, Va., Sherry (Rob) Barrett of Kalamazoo, Sue (Jeff) Waldron of Colorado, and Sally (Tony) Mermer of California; and seven grandchildren - Jordan, Rylie, Camden, Haley, Jackson, Trayton and Jewel.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Tiffany.
Funeral services for Ricky will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Michael Goble officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian with full military graveside services conducted by the V.F.W. Annis-Fint Post 1584. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.

Hossie T. Davis
BENTON HARBOR - Hossie T. Davis went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the age of 58. Hossie was born Dec. 25, 1950, in Henning, Tenn., to Lena Maxi and Hossie T. Anderson Sr. Hossie moved to Benton Harbor in 1968. He worked and retired from Benton Harbor Public Works Department as a heavy duty equipment operator. Hossie accepted Christ in his early 30s, under the Rev. Willie T. Burton of New Paradise Baptist Church.
Hossie leaves to cherish his memories, special friend, Carol Lewis and daughter, Lula Lewis of Benton Harbor; one son, Hossie (Melva) Davis III of California; one daughter, Angelia (Ron) Griffin of Detroit; one brother, Terry (Debra) Anderson of Benton Harbor; three sisters, Kathy (Ron) Nickens, Audrey (a.k.a. Cookie) Anderson of South Bend, Ind., Francis Louise Price of Atlanta; one granddaughter, Kandice Griffin of Detroit; two stepgrandchildren in California; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Hossie was preceded in death by his mother, Lena Maxie; father, Hossie Anderson; brothers, Willie Anderson and Bobbie Davis.
A Celebration of Hossie will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Robbins Brothers (Chapel) Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
Ke'Andre Williams
BENTON HARBOR - Ke'Andre Williams was born to the union of Shawniquia Bailey and Andre' Williams April 19, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, and passed April 19, 2009.
He leave precious memories in the hearts of his parents, maternal grandparents, Lachonda Branscumb and John Bailey, paternal grandmother, Judy Williams.
Memorial services will be held today at 12 p.m. at Family Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
Marjorie J. (Sloan) Reece
ST. JOSEPH - Marjorie J. (Sloan) Reece, 86, of St. Joseph, formerly of Marion, Ind., passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her home.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Estates of Serenity Cemetery in Marion with the Rev. Marcus Combs officiating. Memorials may be made to Women's Life Charitable Fund-St. Jude Cancer Research or Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
Mrs. Reece was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Marion, Ind., to Archibald and Clara (Brown) Sloan. She graduated from Marion High School in 1941. She was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone, retiring in 1979. Marjorie was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and in her spare time enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, shopping, and most of all, the time spent with her family especially her great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reece is survived by her children, Wendy Warren of St. Joseph, Nicholas (Barbara) VanLandingham of English, Ind., Becky (Bruce) Janko of Hilliard, Ohio; her daughter-in-law, Kanita Bendow of Marion; grandchildren, Laura (Jacob) Rowe, Joseph Janko, John (Patsy) VanLandingham, Suzie Newman, Jennifer (Matthew) Meyer, Julie (Gene) Doerr, Sabrina (Joshua) Hunt, Nicole Warren, Kelli Dean, Penny (Mitch) Smithson, Jodi Devine, Shelly, Brittany, Brandi and Scott; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth (Alene) Sloan of Marion; and two sisters, Louise Shinault of Fischers, Ind., and Madonna Hendy of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael VanLandingham Sr. in 2008, her grandson, Michael VanLandingham Jr., and three brothers, Charles, Archie and Max Sloan.
Jeanette Potts
ST. JOSEPH - Jeanette Potts, 86 of St. Joseph passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009, in Largo, Fla.
Jeanette was born on July 10, 1922, in Goodland, Ind., to Louise and Estella (Cain) Mathew.
She was educated in Newton County, IN. In 1945 she married Raymond Delos "Pottsie" Potts in Rensselaer; Ind. Jeanette was employed by Rimes Department store in St. Joseph as a salesperson and buyer. Jeanette and Pottsie owned and operated Meadow Grove Horse Farm on Cleveland Ave. boarding and raising show horses for many years. They were very active in Berrien County Youth Fair and chairman of Berrien County Youth Fair Horse Show for 20 years. Jeanette will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jeanette is survived by her brother, Delbert (Lolly) Mathew of Largo; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends from the farm and youth fair grounds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delos (Pottsie) in 1988; a sister, Pauline (Bart) Hamacker; two brothers, Byron (Gerry) and Delos (Ann) Mathew.
A celebration of Life services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Berrien County Youth Fair.
