Josephine Ann Naessens
Age 87 of St. Louis passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Mid-Michigan Regional Center in Midland, Michigan.
Hank and Jo owned and operated a farm in Bethany Township, Gratiot County for many years. Jo enjoyed tending her large flower garden and she was a very talented baker. She was also an avid reader and a loyal fan to the Detroit Tigers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 6, 2002 at 9:30 A.m. at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis. Rev. Fr. Jack Hammer will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Alward-Carter Chapel, St. Louis. There will be a prayer service Friday evening at 7:00 P.m.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 23, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Apolonia (Bochnia) Gredys. She was orphaned at the age of 16. On September 28, 1935 she married Henry Joseph Naessens in Saginaw, Michigan. He died December 28, 1986. She attended Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church. She resided most of her life in Bethany Township and she had also been a resident of Community Village Assisted Living in Saginaw Township for over 5 years and most recently lived at Mid-Michigan Stratford Village Nursing Home in Midland.
Survivors include 4 sons, Paul J. & Phyllis Naessens of Shelby, Montana, John H. & Nancy Naessens of St. Louis, H. David & Patricia Naessens of Midland, James M. & Susan Naessens of Rochester, Minnesota, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Celia Barrho of Saginaw Townhip, and Doris Lania of Detroit. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Russell J. Hatfield
Age 70 of Owosso, Michigan died Friday, March 29, 2002 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. He retired from F&E Manufacturing in 1991 and he also farmed. He was also member of UAW Local 708.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Pastor John Walworth will officiate with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-9 P.M. and Monday 2-9 P.M.
Russell was born on March 30, 1931 in Owosso, Michigan the son of Orval Eugene & Vina ( Abbot ) Hatfield. He attended Grayling Schools and on June 1, 1978 he married Lana Jean Roach in Owosso, Michigan. Russell enjoyed Camping & Hunting.
Survivors include, wife Lana Hatfield, Owosso, 3 sons, Jim & Debi Hatfield Swartz Creek, MI., Glenn & Bridget Hatfield of Genesee, MI., Mark & Sharon Hatfield Madison, AL., 1 daughter, Lori & Dave VanConant, Burton, MI., 9 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Violet Seabert, Alma, MI., Gloria & Oliver Anglemyer, Three Rivers, MI., 3 brothers, Forrest & Bev Hatfield, Leslie, MO., Ernest & Vera Hatfield, Grayling, MI., Sonny Hatfield, Three Rivers, MI., 3 sister-in-laws, Betty Hatfield, Fenton, MI., Rose & Robert Duncan, Burton, MI., Mona & Jerry Kramer, Bay City, MI., 2 brother-in-laws, Matt & Holly Roach, Corunna, MI., Mark Roach, Owosso, 2 loving pets Cherokee & Jack. Many nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews.

Lucille E. Bower
Age 84 of Elsie, Michigan died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing & quilting.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Fred Heath will officiate with burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flushing, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 4-8 P.m.
Lucille was born on December 26, 1917 in Mohawk, Michigan the daughter of John "Jack" & Bessie (Trewen) Rutter. She graduated from Central High School in Flint with the Class of 1934. She was married in 1937 to Thomas Bower in Flint, Michigan. He died in 1970. She was a Life member of O.E.S. in Flushing, a member of the Eagles Club, & T.O.P.S. in Owosso. She resided most of her life in Flushing & Elsie, Michigan.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra & Roger Hayen of Mt. Pleasant, three sons, Richard & Joy Bower of Idaho, Larry & Sharon Bower of Bancroft, and Ronald & Beverly Bower of Elsie, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, and two brothers, Bob & Ray Rutter of Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, two grandchildren, Jack & Chris, two great grandchildren, Chelsea & Richard, and one brother Stan. Memorials may be made to Charity of Donor’s Choice.
