Arnold J. Gurden
Age 89 of Corunna, Michigan passed away Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Durand Convalescent Center in Durand, Michigan. He was an Owner/Manager of Gurden's Food Market for 14 years. He was also an Office Manager of Olin Kraft/Georgia Pacific for 20 years, retiring in 1988.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Rev. Len Gamber will officiate with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday 5-8 P.M. and Monday 4-8 P.M.
Arnold was born April 26, 1913 in Bennington, Michigan the son of Alfred & Mattie Mae (Goss) Gurden. He graduated from Owosso High School. On September 5, 1936, he married Ethlynn Terry at her home. He loved to garden and to be outdoors. He was an avid golfer till he was 83 and he enjoyed going on Canadian fishing trips with his buddies. Arnold loved his family very much. He was a Member of First Unite Methodist Church of Corunna and he was an active Member of the Corunna Rotary. He was a past Member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and also a past Member of the Owosso Community Players.
Arnold resided most of his life in Corunna and spent 22 years in Florida during the winter. He is survived by his wife, Ethlynn Gurden of Corunna, son, Terry & Chanya Gurden of Owosso, daughter, Luanne & Roderick Cox of Bancroft, daughter, Trudy & William Mills of Corunna, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sister, Arlena Lawson of Syracuse, NY, sister, Minnie Gurden of Durand, brother, Rodney & Betty Gurden of Owosso, sister, Verlena & Hal Briand of Bennington and sister Boots & Charles Alexander of Mt. Pleasant. Arnold is predeceased by his parents, 1 sister, Creola Gurden and 1 grandchild, Kevin Mills.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Corunna Rotary Club. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.

Carol Beth Lewis
Age 41 of St. Louis, Michigan passed away Saturday, August 10, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. She owned and operated Little Rascals Daycare in St. Louis for approximately 10 years. She enjoyed and cared for the daycare children as if they were a part of her family.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Alward-Carter Chapel, St. Louis. Pastor Steve Bradshaw will officiate with burial at Riverdale Cemetery in Riverdale, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday & Wednesday from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Carol was born on August 17, 1960 in Alma, Michigan the daughter of Fredrick & Yvonne (Sherwood) Ewing. She attended and graduated from Alma High School with the Class of 1978. On May 30, 1997 she married Alan Lewis in Ithaca, Michigan. Carol was the Secretary of Abate Region #21, and also a Member of Region #10. She was a former Member of the Rolling Thunder Chapter 2. Carol was affiliated with the Christian Motorcycles Association. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, camping and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Carol resided most of her life in the Alma and St. Louis areas.
She is survived by her Husband, Alan Lewis of St. Louis, 3 daughters, Sarah & David Head of St. Louis, Karah & Ryan Shattuck of St. Louis, Crystal Barnes of St. Louis, 3 step-children, Travis Lewis of St. Louis, Tracie Lewis of Seattle, Washington, Tonya & Rob Carlson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 3 grandchildren, Ashlynn, Dylan and one on the way, 3 step grandchildren, Jainey, Brandon & Andrea, 2 sisters, Mary Ann & Jeffery Lovett of Connecticut, Kathy & Ken Cain of Newaygo, parents, Fred & Bonnie Ewing of Alma, several nieces & nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her daycare children. Carol is predeceased by her grandparents and aunts & uncles.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Alward-Carter Chapel, St. Louis.

Merville C. Moore
Age 88 of Caledonia Township, Michigan passed away Friday, August 9, 2002 at his home. He was a Stock Room Supervisor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at First United Methodist Church of Corunna, Corunna, Michigan. Rev. Clifford J. Furness will officiate with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery, Corunna, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
Merville was born on June 6, 1934 in Chapin Township, Michigan, the son of William Albert & Cora (Borden) Moore. He graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1934. On May 30, 1936 he married Helen Lucille Moore in Indiana. She passed away on June 10, 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Corunna. He enjoyed boats, Flying, and Stamp Collecting. He was a member of Owosso Masonic Temple and resided most of his life in Owosso
He is survived by three sons, Gene Moore of Downers Grove, IL, John & Anne Moore of Richmond, VA, and Bill & Shelley Moore of Traverse City, seven grandchildren, William, Holly, Katie, Carly, Chandler, Scott, and Elisabeth, one great grandchild, Chenoa, and one sister, Ara Badgero of Worthington, OH. He was predeceased by his parents, and wife.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Corunna in Corunna, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
