Marion I. West

Marion I. West of Eaton Rapids, age 62 died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at her residence with her family by her bedside, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 1, 1946 in Jackson Michigan, the daughter of Genevieve Nelson. Marion worked for over 30 years at the Abie’s Bar and Grill in Eaton Rapids. She was a former chairperson for “Relay For Life” in Eaton Rapids. Marion will be dearly missed by all who had known her as a mother, grandmother and a friend.

She is survived by he two sons, Michael (Cynthia) West and Philip (Nikki Wells) West all of Eaton Rapids; three grandchildren, Angel West of Rochester, MI, Dylan and Skylar West both of Eaton Rapids.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Ron Huston, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Raids. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to either the local Humane Society or Relay For Life in memory of Marion I. West. Dale A. White

Dale A. White of Eaton Rapids, age 74, passed away in Kentucky, Friday May 8, 2009. Dale was born September 23, 1934 in Oakland City, Indiana, the son of Luther and Agnas (Herbert) White. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering and also had a master’s degree. Dale retired from Eaton Technology in 1989. He married Marietta (Grant) in 1955 in Oakland City, Indiana. Dale was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lansing. He loved to play golf and enjoyed gardening. His specialty was growing strawberries, but he also loved to grow flowers and vegetables.

Dale is survived by his wife Marietta of Eaton Rapids; his children, Debra (Mark) Barrera of Eaton Rapids, donna (Kent) Miller of Boonville, Indiana, Mike (Teresa) White of New Baltimore, MI; grandchildren Jennifer Barrera, Jessica Barrera, Mark Barrera II, Heather Winiger, David Allen Miller, Mackenzie White and Emma White; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Carolyn) White of Oakland City, Indiana; sisters, Janey Burch and Joyce Harvison both of Princeton Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Dale to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center, 1500 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids. www.shellyodell.com.

Ronald Dean White

Ronald Dean White, of Mason, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the age of 73. Ronald was born July 11, 1935 to Roland White and Marian (White) Southwick in Eaton Rapids and lived in and around Mason his entire life.

Ronald worked and retired from Dental Art Laboratories where he worked as a delivery driver. Ronald was known to many as a sports enthusiast of all kinds; bowling and golf were two that he continued to play throughout the years.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Ronald leaves behind his two brothers, Gary White and Terry (Janet) Southwick; sister, Kay (David) Reglin; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 21, 2009 1 p.m. at Mason Community Church, 1000 E Columbia Rd., Mason. Arrangements were made through Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home.

Dianne Wilkinson

Dianne Joyce Wilkinson, daughter of Milton and Lucille Buck, passed away Nov. 25, 2009 in Oro Valley at the age of 74 following an extended illness. Dianne was born in San Bernardino, Calif., on Sept. 6, 1935.

During 40 years of marriage, Dianne and her family lived in Newport Beach, Calif.; Rochester, NY; Dallas, Texas and retired in Arizona. Dianne was employed for 30 years as an administrative assistant in major legal and industrial companies. She found joy in singing and in the creation of beautiful things. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Flory. Dianne is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Cristianna McUmber; grandson, Brandon, Bradley, Josh and C.J. and brother, Don Buck.

In lieu of a service, friends are asked to remember Dianne and her family in their thoughts and prayers.

D. Kent Williams

D. Kent Williams, 65, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Kent was born Feb. 22, 1944 in Charlotte, the son of Dale K. and Mary Ruth (Patterson) Williams and was a life resident of Charlotte. He was a 1962 graduate of Charlotte High school, was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois Glass Co. retiring in 2001 after 37 years of service and was a member of the Charlotte Eagles. He loved garage sales, flea markets and spending winters in Florida.

Surviving are: his wife, Olga “Augie” Williams; children, Becky (Carl) Eggleston of Charlotte, Ruth (Brian) Henry of Lansing, Michelle (Brian) Bartlett of Middleville, Melissa Ballard of Charlotte, Lynn Thornton of Missouri and Ron (Ashley Lewis) McConnell of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Karry McConnell of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Mary J. (Joe) Morey of Bellevue and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Williams and brother, Richard Williams.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Edwin Williams

Edwin Williams, 81, of Charlotte, died Monday, June 1, 2009. Funeral series were held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Mary Williams

Mary M. Williams, 70, of Haslett, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009. Ms.
Williams was born April 5, 1939 in Lansing, the daughter of Jonas and Clarissa (Mogg) Schroeder.

Mrs. Williams was a retired cosmetologist and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Haslett. She enjoyed collecting frogs and riding BMW motorcycles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ Williams; her parents, Jonas and Clarissa and sister, Berta.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Keith) McComber of Lansing and Kathy Brown; sons, Brian (Kim) Sterrett of Lansing, Sam Sterrett of Lansing, Joe (Debi) Sterrett of Morresville, NC, Dwayne Williams, Ron (Julie) Williams and Kirk Williams; sisters, Phyllis (Dave) Berry, Joann (Tom) Cooley and brother, Sam (Melanie) Beverly. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Terry LaDuke officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Wayne Williams

Wayne W. Williams, 80, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Eaton Rapids, passed away on Dec. 25, 2009. He attended Northern Illinois Teachers College 1947-1951 and was in the US Air Force 1951 till 1955.

He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. as a salesman in Michigan from 1957 till 1985. He was active in Eaton Rapids Jaycee’s and Eaton Rapids Lion Club. He moved to Florida in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne J. and Evelyn (Burd) Williams. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn; children, Kim Lowery, Wayne (Lori) Williams, Brett (Theresa) Williams; special friends, Randy and Robin Briggs. Memorials may be made to Eaton Rapids Public Library.

Hazel Willis

Hazel E. Willis, 92, of Bellevue, died February 2, 2009 at Marshall Tendercare.

Memorial services will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Bellevue Christian Center with Pastor Danesh Manik officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel in Bellevue.

Nellie Wilton

Nellie K. Wilton died at age 105 years and five months on July 27, 2009. She joined her dear friend, Jesus, who was her lifetime companion. He sustained her throughout all of her many trials and tribulations.

Nellie enjoyed life and found pleasure in the smallest things.

She was born Nellie Katherine Burton on March 4, 1904 in Kansas City, Mo. Her parents were Williams Henry and Blanch Amelia (Delemater) Burton.

Nellie married first to Leland Morton Shout. He died at an early age. She then married Owen Adolphus Wilton. She lived in Detroit with both of her husbands.

When Owen retired, they moved to Charlotte. Nellie played organ and piano for the Christian Scientist Church for most of her life. Her specialty was to accompany vocalists. In Charlotte, Nellie was very active in the Professional women’s Club and in Performing Arts. Her service will be held there at a later date sometime in August.

Nellie had no children. She dearly loved her five stepchildren, the children of Owen Wilton.

She had one sister, Dorothy who precedes her in death. Her nephew, brother-in-law and foster nephew, Gerald Sturgis, also preceded her in death. Two of Nellie’s stepsons, Carl and Gerald Wilton and a step-son-in-law, Chester Casari, also preceded Nellie in death as well as Chester Douglas and Renee Casari.

Those who mourn Nellie’s death are her remaining stepchildren, Robert and Nora Wilton, who cared for her (she died in their home), Audrey Casari, Janet and Carl Wilton and Corinne Moss as well as her three loyal aides, Barb, Sandra and Susan. Nellie leaves six step-grandchildren, 27 great step-grandchildren and a number of great-great step grandchildren.

Memorials for Nellie may be given to the Boston Christian Scientist Church, where prayers will be held for her. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chagnonth.com.
