Marceil D. Warren

Marceil D. Warren, age 79, of Eaton Rapids, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. She was born June 24, 1929 in Lansing, the daughter of Lyal and Marion (Merritt) Haigh. Marceil was a Sexton High School graduate, class of 1947.

Marceil loved dancing and started at the age of 6 at Virgiline Simmons Dance Studio in Lansing. It was there she met Robert “Jack” Warren as a student of ballroom dance and she was the instructor. His eyes met hers and on August 25, 1951 they were married. They moved to Eaton Rapids in 1957 and for several years taught dance in her home. Her dance school became so successful that in 1967 they moved to Main Street and became “Marceil’s Island City Dance Centre”. She taught dance to children and adults for over 50 years retiring in 2005. Marceil was a very active member of the Eaton Rapids Historical Society.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Robert “Jack” Warren; 2 children, Jeffrey (Shawn) Warren of Eaton Rapids and daughter, Lesley (Mario) Guerrero of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Nathaniel and Olivia Warren and Tony (Andrea) Guerrero; 2 great grandchildren, Arianna and Anthony Jr. Guerrero.

Memorial services will be Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday starting at noon. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to either the Eaton Rapids Historical Society or the Eaton Community Hospice, envelopes available at funeral home. Robert “Jack” Warren

Robert “Jack” Warren, age 86 of Eaton Rapids passed away Saturday, June 14, 2009. Born March 30, 1923 to Clare and Madge (DeLand) Warren. Jack was raised on a farm on Hatch Road in Meridian Township. He graduated from Okemos High School, class of 1941. Jack served in the Navy during WWII. An original member of the Epoufetter’s. Jack loved the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed coffee and ice cream at Miller’s. Preceding him in death was his wife, Marceil (Haigh) Warren; his parents; and siblings, Charlotte Hidy, Nancy Brown, George Warren.

He is survived by his 2 children, Jeff (Shawn) Warren of Eaton Rapids and daughter, Leslay (Mario) Guerrero of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Nathaniel and Olivia Warren and Tony (Andrea) Guerrero; 2 great grandchildren, Arianna and Anthony Jr. Guerrero.

Memorial Services will be Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Phyllis Webb

Phyllis Jean Webb, 79, of Charlotte, passed away on April 3, 2009. Mrs. Webb was born May 15, 1929 in Pontiac, Mich., the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Hicks) Pifer.

She enjoyed walks in the woods, long drives, watching her bird feeders and generally loved nature. Many enjoyable Sunday afternoons were spent at the cottage on Thornapple Lake with her family. She worked as a bookkeeper/secretary and was treasurer for Chester Township for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Brian Webb and brother, Wayne Pifer.

She is survived by her children, Roger Webb of Buffalo, Mo., and Angie (Tim O’Donnell) Merryfield of Portland; grandchildren, Brad and Quinton Webb, Shane Merryfield; sister, Janice (Dexter) Griffin of Charlotte and sisters-in-law, Marge Pifer of Myrtle Beach SC, Mary Barclay of Grand Ledge, Bonnie Webster of Oregon and many loving nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nashville Baptist Church.

Robert Edward Webb

Robert Edward Webb, better known as “Uncle Ed”, age 55 of Charlotte, left for this heavenly hone on June 5, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ed was born Aug. 12, 1953 in Lansing, son of Steward E. Webb and the late Jean A. Menzer. He was a graduate of Eastern High School. For the past 20 years, he has worked side by side with his brother, Stew Webb, at Stew’s Auto Trim in Eaton Rapids (formerly in Charlotte).

Ed will be deeply and sadly missed by his family, many friends, clients and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Menzer and sister, Judy Ridge. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Steward and Colleen Webb; daughters, Casey Webb; granddaughter, Brooklyn Dean; brother, Steward (Cindy) Webb; sister, Vickie (LeRoy) Dennis; nephews, Butch Dennis, Shane (Misook) Webb, Scott Taylor; nieces, Denise (Salim) Salim, Shonda (Daryl) Walker, Nikki (Robert) Mesko, Crystal (Greg) Phillips; 13 great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice.

Jean Weeks

Jean Madeline (Hanan) Weeks, of Charlotte, passed away to be with the Lord at the age of 83 on Oct. 11, 2009. Jean was born Feb. 8, 1926 in the small coal-mining town of Huron, Westmoreland County, Pa.

She loved to do crochet, embroidery, needlepoint and sewing. Jean lived with George in Bath until he retired from diamond Reo. They moved to Spartanburg, SC, and later to Wickenburg, Ariz. In 2006, Jean moved back to Charlotte to be near her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Madeline Hanan of Pennsylvania, and husband, George R. Weeks.

Jean is survived by her son, J. Bruce (Carolyn) Weeks.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at Maple Hill Cemetery with son, Bruce Weeks officiating.

Rex Welch

Rex A. Welch, 62, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. Mr. Welch was born July 11, 1947 in Plymouth, Mich., the son of Alvin and Peggy (Reed) Welch.

Mr. Welch was employed at Carefree windows of Charlotte. He is survived by his son, John Welch of Charlotte; daughters, Robin Welch of Charlotte and Susan Welch of East Lansing; brother, Dave Welch of Bellevue and sister, Jane King of North Carolina. Joseph L. Wells

Joseph L. Wells, 80 of Grand Ledge, passed away on June 14, 2009 at Hospice of Sparrow in Lansing.

He was one of nine children born to David and Freda Wells. Joseph retired from General Motors in 1990, after serving 39 years in plants 2 and 3 located in Lansing. He had many friends he acquired at GM. He was always there with a helping hand. Joseph was a very talented man and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Freda Wells; 2 sisters, Hazel (Fran deceased) Marsh, Nettie (Les deceased) Vanhorn of California; brother, Ben (Ruth surviving wife) Wells of Grand Ledge.

He is survived by his sisters, Lorena (George deceased) Washington, Opel (Edward) Thomas, Eleanor (Les deceased) Johnson, Judy (Darwin deceased) Colby and brother, Sam Wells aka David Sam Wells. His surviving six children are, Marilyn (Duane) Bishop of Bellevue, Gerald aka Spider (Cathy) Wells of Charlotte, Diana (Tom) Chaffee of Grand Ledge, Steven Wells of Roscommon, Cathy (John) Cannell of Wisconsin, and Michael Wells of Bellevue. Joseph leaves 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Kenneth Wells

Kenneth P. Wells, 86, of Charlotte, died Monday Nov. 9, 2009. Mr. wells was born May 24, 1923 in Brookfield Township, Mich., the son of Stanley and Foy (Parshall) Wells. Mr. Wells retired from Post Cereals in Battle Creek after 30 years in 1982. He enjoyed hunting and making maple syrup. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hilda David and Rosemary Phillips; brothers, Vaughn Wells, don Wells, Ronald Wells and Earl Wells. Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Marianna; son, Dennis (Donna) Wells of Charlotte; daughter, Joyce (Jerry) Bristol of Hastings; son, David (Pat) Wells of Charlotte; son, Jack (Dorleen) wells of Vermontville; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. No services will be held.

Michael Wendling

Family and friends of Michael (Mike) Alan Wendling, age 50, learned of his passing on April 25, 2009.

Mike was born December 22, 1958, in Lansing and made Eaton Rapids his home for the past 17 years.

His hobbies included coaching his children’s soccer teams; hunting and fishing; and training and taking care of local wild/stray animals. Mike also enjoyed rock-n-roll and playing drums.

Surviving are his four children; Desarae (Joe) Rogers, Shawna Wendling, Michael (Alex)

Wendling, and Robert Wendling; grandchildren Areonah, Easton, Michael, and Braiden; and siblings Sally Rameriz, Nancy Diaz, Daniel Wendling, and Jane Sullivan. He was loved and will be missed by an abundance of friends.

A memorial gathering was held at Howe Memorial Field near the Playground of Dreams on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Donations in Michael Wendling’s name may be made to the Skinner Funeral Home, 315 S. River St., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. The family appreciates all the donations that have been made thus far.

Shane Wertz

Shane Edward Wertz, 47, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009. Mr. Wertz was born Jan. 18, 1962 in Charlotte, the son of Faith (Britt) Morgan, and Darry (Dee) Wertz.

He was a graduate of Charlotte High School “Class of 1980” and was employed by Capital City International in the Service Department. Shane was passionate about finding and fabricating recycled metals into custom cars and yard art. He was an expert in transforming his ideas from beginning to end including his own custom paint jobs. An outdoor “extreme sports” enthusiast, he enjoyed spending his free time snowmobiling and quad riding in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula with the buys or with close family and friends at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (Tuckey) Wertz; sons, Zane and Spencer; his parents; brothers, Van (Mary) Wertz and Wade Wertz; step-sister, Shelly (Chris) Starr; step-brother, Britt Morgan, Jr.; mother-in-law, Lucille (Whitinger) Tuckey; brothers-in-law, Brian (Ronda) Tuckey, Steve Tuckey, Robert Tuckey, Ed (Carole) Tuckey; sisters-in-law, Sue Tuckey, Sara (Max) Powers; Chris Volz and an extremely large extended family.

A family affirmation service was held Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Cremation has already taken place.
