Claude L. Thelen
Claude L. Thelen of Lansing, formerly of Fowler, left this earth on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Claude was born Oct. 27, 1930 in Fowler, moved to Lansing, and was the owner of The Tractorhaus for many years.
He was proud in the fact that he graduated from Michigan State University during his later years. Life was important to Claude so that his concern for the oppressed was the total focus of his lifetime; the prisoners, the homeless, the hungry, the leper patients, and the lonely were reason that Jesus was concerned with his earthly three-year ministry.
The journey of the cross that Jesus traveled is the journey that Claude believed he should follow. The Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46 is the road map to eternal life. The attributes of Jesus were mercy, love, kindness, patience and forgiveness. His teachings were the spiritual motivators that motivated Claude. Claude spent countless hours helping with Volunteers of America and Cristo Rey Community center.
He was a devoted member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, teaching religious education and making countless rosaries for the Rosary Makers. Claude also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge 288, where he loved to dance.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin and Clem.
Claude is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Neil, Keith, Mary Beth, Lois, Lynn and Nancy; brother, Jerome; and sisters, Lucille Fox and Leona Kletner.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated Thursday, May 21 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Fr. John Byers as celebrant. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Volunteers of America or IHM Church in memory of Claude Thelen.
