Richard Lee Robbins
Richard Lee Robbins of Eaton Rapids, age 67, passed away at his home, October 10, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born in Eaton Rapids, March 27, 1942, the son of William and Norma (Hudson) Robbins. Richard was a US Navy veteran and served his country from 1960-1966. He worked for Pontiac from 1962-1971, Lee McGilvery in Haslett from 1971-1983 and Cooper Buege Chevrolet from 1983-1994 at which time, he retired. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and gun collecting, especially flint locks. He was a hunter safety instructor, a member of the NMLRA, the Eaton Raids Conservation Club and a member of the Three Fires.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley (Kelly) Robbins; sons, Ronald (Bianca) Robbins of Germany, Paul Robbins of Eaton Rapids, Brian Robbins of Chicago; grandchildren, Kevin and Vanessa Robbins; mother, Norma Grace Hudson-Walters of Kalamazoo; brothers, Howard (Barbara) Robbins, Randy (Yolanda) Johnson, Leroy (Diane) Johnson, Mike (Sandy) Johnson; his dogs, Cloi, Sara, Fawn and Olivia; a special thank you to his “brothers” Dean Mills, Dan Teigeler and Hospice Advantage. He was preceded in death by his father and brother Leon Robbins.
There will be a memorial service luncheon, 2 pm Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club, 4700 Freeman Rd. Eaton Rapids, MI. Jeffrey Lynn Rochester, Jr.
Jeffrey Lynn Rochester, Jr., 18, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 in Lansing. Jeff was born March 6, 1990, in Lansing, the son of Jeffrey Lynn, Sr. and Carol Jean (King) Rochester.
Jeff was a 2008 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. From the moment he was diagnosed with brain cancer in Oct. 2007, he was determined to live every day to the fullest. His mantra became "Every day's a bonus."
Jeff began playing baseball at age six and continued to play until July 2008. Jeff played his last nine months of baseball with cancer, rarely missing workouts or practice and never missing games even during his radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
He inspired many people with his determination to play, and he enjoyed his best pitching and hitting seasons during the spring and summer of 2008. He also refused to miss a moment of the time he had with his friends, and he remained a friend to all. He was voted "Best Shoulder to Lean On" by his graduating class.
Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Linda (Potter) Rochester.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Linda and Mariah Rochester; paternal grandparents, Merle and Daisy Rochester; maternal grandparents, Gary and Gracie King; nephew, Aiden Rochester, all of Eaton Rapids; aunt, Grace (Ronald) Grogan of St. Clair; aunt, Kathi (Barry) Hardin of Haslett; uncle, Charles Rochester of Eaton Rapids; aunt, Christine (Todd) Garrison of Eaton Rapids; uncle, Larry (Lori) Chesebro of Muskegon; uncle, Gary Chesebro of Morley; and many cousins.
A celebration of Jeff's life was held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids.
We will miss our blue-eyed boy who laughed out loud rarely but had a quick wit and a great sense of humor that made others laugh. He had a quick mind and knew what he wanted in life. It was his dream to graduate from Hope College with a dual major in business and Spanish, eventually marry and raise a family in Eaton Rapids.

John William Roden
John William “Jack” Roden Eaton Lansing, age 81, died August 9, 2009. He was born January 28, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of John Joseph and Lucille (Conners) Roden. Mr. Roden graduated from East Lansing High School and Michigan State University. He was a USAF Mosquito pilot in the Korean War and later flew for the Michigan Air National Guard. He looked forward to family time on Canadian-Minnesota border lakes, and his Dieter dogs. He joined Beech Aircraft as district sales manager and later owned a Volkswagen dealership in Marquette, Michigan. More recently he worked in commercial real estate investments and consulting.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; son, William Roden; daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Mooney, Mary Hamilton, Barbara Roden and Patricia Grogis; grandchildren, Allison Mooney, J.R. Mooney, Natalie Mooney, J.J. Grogis and Bobby Grogis.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 12, 2009, Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. The Rev. James Lothamer officiated. Lorraine Rolfe
Lorraine C. Rolfe, 83, of Lansing, passed away on Jan. 22, 2009. Lorraine was born Feb. 8, 1925, to parents Edward and Helen Steiner, and grew up in Potterville.
She gave 20 years of service as a nurse, retiring from Visiting Nurses in 1984.
She was a source of strength for her family as a wonderful mother and grandmother, sister, and friend.
He husband, Robert D. Rolfe of 52 years; her parents, Edward and Helen Steiner; in-laws, Fern and Stanley; and brother, Roderick preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters, Cathy and Judy; son, Bion (Nancy); grandchildren and great grandchildren, Darcie (Mackenzie and Delanie), Todd (Mitchell), Elbert, Bobby (Christian, Carol, Derek, Daryl, Elisecya), Jamie (Charity, Ricky, Shane, Tyler), Robin (Zack, Leigha), and Kelly (Jessica, Stephanie); and brother, Edward (Dot).
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating.

John Rose
John L. Rose, 65, Olivet, formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 after an extended illness. John was born April 21, 1944 in Lansing, the son of John Lorenzo and Juanita (Christensen) Rose and was a life resident of the area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, had been employed as a Tool and Die Maker for General Motors from where he retired after 39 years of service and was a member of the Lawrence Ave United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
Surviving are: his wife of 44 years, Gladys (McConnell) Rose; 4 children, John (Dianne) Rose of Ithaca, Mich., Mary (Tim) Smith of Boyne Falls, Mich., Amy (Brett) Gustafson of Ewen, Mich. and Sylvia (Jake) Burkett of Bellevue, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Juanita Rose of Charlotte and two brothers, Paul Rose of Charlotte and Bruce Rose of State Line, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Rose; sister, Judy Kozora and brother, David Rose. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, 210 E. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in the Bosworth Cemetery near Olivet. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice. David Rosenbrook Sr.
David Rosenbrook Sr. 54, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009. Mr. Rosenbrook was born March 29, 1955 in Charlotte, the son of Duane and Betty (Schmunsler) Rosenbrook.
He worked for A.E. Hoover, later becoming a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Rosenbrook Jr., in 1995 and father, Duane Rosenbrook in 1996.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Rosenbrook; mother, Betty Rosenbrook; longtime companion, Lisa Kinsey and her daughters, Heather and Heaven; brothers, Randolph (Cindy) Rosenbrook, Robby (Ronda) Rosenbrook, Jeffrey (Kathy) Rosenbrook and sister, Tamara Rosenbrook (Chris Line).
Services were held Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Verne Summers officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Peter John Rottenbucher III
Mr. Peter John Rottenbucher III was blessed to be united with his Loving Savoir and Lord on Tuesday, March 3,2009. He was preceded in death by his son David, in 2005 and his sister Terri Kay (Rottenbucher) Knowles of Monroe, Beth Ann (Rottenbucher) Scarpaci of Mesa Arizona, his brother, Brother James Rottenbucher C.S.C. of Monroe. He has 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He married Donna Jean LaVigne in 1956 in Monroe, and relocated to Eaton Rapids in 1961. they purchased Heaton’s Drug Store in 1962, and after 10 years renamed the store Rottenbucher Pharmacy. His random acts of kindness were contagious. He was respected and loved by many, for his caring and unselfish generosity for all. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Pharmacy, where he was both the vice president of his pharmacy class and member of the senior board. He was a member of the Eaton Rapids school board, Knights of Columbus and various pharmacy organizations. He provided pharmaceutical services for the Eaton Rapids community Hospital for many years.
The services were arranged by Skinner Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, March 7th, at St. Peter’s Church. Eugene Earl Russell
Eugene Earl Russell, 65, of Olivet, formerly of Tipton, Ind., passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Russell was born May 31, 1943 in Knoxville, Tenn.
Gene started his working career for Gus Tebbe, and later worked for the County Highway commission in Tipton, Ind., before moving to Michigan.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite pastime was spending quality time with his family.
Gene married the love of his life, Linda L. Shumaker on May 8, 1970, in Tipton, Ind. She survives.
He is survived by daughter, Tanya (Jared) Wonnacott of Olivet; grandchildren, Nathan and Elana of Olivet; mother, Pauline Perkins of Coldwater; brothers, Wayne (Donna) Russell of Dale, Ind., Tony (Diane) Hubbard of Bronson, Thomas (Kathy) Perkins of Battle Creek; sisters, Linda (Richard) Gillespie of Coldwater, Carolyn (Mark) Day of Tipton, Ind. and Robbin Perkins of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy (Perkins) Sayles; and infant nephew, Joey Sayles.

Joyce Russell
Joyce Ann Russell, 68, of Bellevue, died Feb. 3, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born May 15, 1940, the daughter of Lawrence and Beatrice L. (Samson) Russell in Battle Creek.
She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1958, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University and a Masters Degree from western Michigan University. She worked as a librarian for public schools in grand Rapids and Cleveland, Ohio. Joyce was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church. She loved to read and enjoyed teaching. She also enjoyed visiting with people.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice in Sept. 2008 and her father, Lawrence.
Joyce is survived by her brother, James Russell of Sioux Falls, SD; cousins, Ann (Rex) Croster of Mendon and Linda (Dan) Armey of Sturgis.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9 at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery.
