Mary Ellen Mortimer
Mary Ellen Mortimer of Springport, MI, age 88 died Sunday, August 24, 2009 at Maple Wood Adult Foster Care Home in Eaton Rapids. Born February 7, 1921 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Fisher) Leventry. Mrs. Mortimer married George Mortimer and together moved to the Albion area in the mid-1940’s. She loved the out-of-doors and being with family. Preceding her in death was her husband of 60 years, George on June 16, 1999; and a granddaughter, Tanya Michalcewicz.
She is survived by 3 children, Barbara Michalcewicz of Charlotte, Joan Call of Lake Otswego, OR, and Glenn Mortimer of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren,; 3 siblings, Ray Leventry of Johnstown, PA; sister, Ida Firm of Johnstown, PA and brother, Jack Leventry of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Ilene Mott
Ilene E. (Sharp) Mott, 69, of Battle Creek, formerly of Olivet, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at Tendercare of Marshall after a lengthy illness. Ilene was born Dec. 28, 1939 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Murl and Jessie (Heisler) Sharp and had lived in the Olivet area most of her life. She was a 1958 graduate of Olivet High School and received her Licensed Practical Nurse training at the Leila Hospital Sisters of Mercy Nursing School. She had been employed by several doctors in the area and with her husband had owned the Pineview Adult Foster Care Home near Olivet. She was a member of the Sonoma United Methodist Church of Battle Creek, former member of the Lee Center United Methodist Church, was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge No. 676 Women of the Moose, the Olivet Band and Athletic Boosters, Family Motor Coach Association, the Charloteers Camping Group and enjoyed animals and snowmobiling. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elaine Sharp; brother, Kenneth Sharp and infant brother, Gene. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, William E. Mott; daughter, Sylvia (Daniel) Fuller of Battle Creek; son, Dusty Mott of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Jeremy and Jaime Fuller and Dennis Mott; four sisters, Jane (Orlen) VanDriesche of Olivet, Joan (Joe) Harmon of Bellevue, Barbara (John) Henry of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Mary (Richard) Midlam of Olivet and sister-in-law, Joyce Sharp of Olivet. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Nancy Powers officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet. Memorial contributions are suggested to Dr. Beals Institute, Eaton Community Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
Kevin Lynn Mudgett Jr.
Kevin Lynn Mudgett Jr. of Eaton Rapids passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 21, 2009 at the age of 17. Born April 20, 1992 to Julie Hector and Kevin Mudgett Sr. in Charlotte. Kevin was a dearly loved son, brother, and nephew who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Kevin would have been entering his senior year to the Eaton Rapids High School in the fall. He was an employee of The English Inn since April of 2008. Kevin enjoyed riding quads, hanging out with his friends and listening to music. Kevin has now gone to heaven to see his loving dog Sysko.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Julie and Gary Hubbard of Eaton Rapids; father, Kevin Mudgett Sr. of Eaton Rapids; sister, Kelly (Luis) Reyes-Davila of Eaton Rapids; niece and nephew, Maya and Jose; grandparents, Gary and Ava Hector of Eaton Rapids, Bessie and Harry Rummins of Barryton; Richard French of Eaton Rapids; Ernie and Rose Baker of Eaton Rapids; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Marty Saunders of the Five Corners Church in Charlotte, officiating. Lois Myers
Lois J. Myers, 72, of Vermontville, died Thursday, March 26, 2009. Mrs. Myers was born April 25, 1936 in Charlotte, the daughter of Blake and Doris (Rogers) Makley. Mrs. Myers was an artist who loved her dog, Tessie. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons, Mike and Mark; daughter, Shelly; grandchildren, Bron, Bree, Brooke, Michael, Michelle, Nicholas, Tori and Angie; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Nona, Judy, Jerrie and Joyce. Robert Myers
Robert D. Myers, 83, of Olivet, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Tendercare of Marshall. Robert was born Oct. 17, 1926 in Olivet, the son of dale and Irene (Day) Myers and was a lifelong Olivet resident.
He was a graduate of Olivet High School, had served in the U.S. Army during World War Two, served as a Club Scout Cub master and had been employed at Post Cereals in Battle Creek from where he retired in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Thelma L. (Brendahl) Myers on Oct. 10, 2007.
Surviving are three son, Gordon (Tess) Myers of Glendale, Ariz., Glen (Lynne) Myers of Olivet and Gary (Deborah) Myers of South Haven, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Edward, Chadwick and Jordan Myers, Jason and Justin Myers, Phillip Hebenstreit, Kristy Huber and Kari Hebenstreit; nine great grandchildren; special friend and caregiver, Amber Leigh Smith and sister, Lois Maurer of Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Cory Myrie
Cory Douglas Myrie, 32, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 5, 2009 at the Harbor Hospice, Poppen Residence following a long illness. Cory was born in Lansing, on August 12, 1977 to Dorrell and Peggy L. )Pack) Myrie and spent the first 13 years of his life in the Lansing area before moving to Charlotte. He was a 1995 graduate of Charlotte H.S. and went on to Ferris State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Plastics Engineering in 2001. Cory was employed as a plastics engineer at the I.I. Stanley Co. in Battle Creek until health forced his premature retirement in 2007 and moving to Spring Lake. Cory loved sports and physical fitness. He played soccer and was an avid Ferris State Hockey fan. Music was a passion for Cory; he enjoyed playing guitar and performing karaoke.
Cory is survived by his mother, Peggy and step-father, Bobby Dennis of Spring Lake; aunts and uncles, Lori and Ed Waldo, Sandy and Gary Meldrum, Judy and Rick Meldrum and Larry and Marge Pack; step-sister Denise Dennis and a host of close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1995.
A memorial service celebrating Cory’s life will be held at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St. at noon on Saturday, November 7, 2009, Chaplain Marilyn Rottschaser officiating. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Roger Neufer
Roger Neufer of Eaton Rapids, age 73, passed away in Lansing, October 23, 2009. He was born in Concord, MI, July 6, 1936, the son of William and Annabelle (Settler) Neufer. Roger was a 1954 graduate from Albion High School. He married Louise Husted, October 24, 1959 in Eaton Rapids. They were married 49 years, 364 days. Roger worked for Fisher Body and retired in 1997 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 602 for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, playing cards and cutting wood. Spending time with his family was very important to him.
He is survived by his wife; his beloved dog Bubba; 4 children, Robin (Mark) Boyd of Dimondale, LouAnn (Max) Sagraves of Onondaga, Ronda (Mike Johnson) Tyler of Charlotte, Roger “Chip” (Mark Mattocks) Neufer of Myrtle Beach, SC; 8 grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer Cook) Boyd, Adam (Donna Miller) Boyd, Josh (Jane) Boyd, Ryan (Amanda Brooks) Tyler, Kiefer Tyler, Heather (Joe) Marsh, Theresa (Darin) Dodga, Micah (Trista) Sagraves; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Donald (Virginia) Neufer of Springport; sister, Mary (Tom) Wildt of Homer and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 pm, Tuesday, October 27,2 009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton RApids, with Pastor Scott Boles officiating. Interment will be at Springport Cemetery. Paula Newland-Orel
Paula R. Newland-Orel, 44, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Hospice Home of Alamance, NC.
A celebration of Paula’s life was held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel, Greensboro, NC. The Rev. Brian Cole, Rev. Terry Moore-Painter and Lance Hemric officiated. The interment will be at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Paula was born on January 16, 1965 in Lansing. She was the co-owner of the Greensboro and owner of the Winston-Salem branches of Two Men and A Truck franchise. Paula was very active in the community, participating with Elizabeth’s Close; American Cancer Society; Susan G. Komen 5K Walk Run; Gifts 2 Read; American Heart Association; Breast Cancer 5K Run; Triad Health Project; Cancer Services of Winston Salem and numerous other services.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Chase Orel. She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Orel and son, Hunter Joseph Ore; parents, Roy and Carole Wendel Bartlett of Charlotte, Mich.; brothers, Eric D. Bartlett and wife Angel of Bellevue, Shane E. Bartlett and wife Dawn of Charlotte, Mich., Quentin Bartlett; mother-in-law Donna M. Orel of Burlington; special cousin Tina Tedrow; father, William D. Newland; brother, Michael Newland; sister, Bethany Passick and husband, Jay; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Gordon Nicholas
Gordon R. Nicholas, 80, of Charlotte, died Thursday, July 16, 2009. Mr. Nicholas was born Aug. 4, 1928 in Howell, Mich., the son of Carleton and Doris (Phares) Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his cousin, Keith Phares.

Norma Nightengale
Norma Pauline Nightengale, 89, recently residing in Gaylord, Mich., formerly of Potterville and Lansing, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. Mrs. Nightengale was born Oct. 28, 1919 in Albion, Mich.
She graduated from Potterville High School and married Albert C. Nightengale in 1939. Norma owned and operated Norma’s Beauty Shoppe. She was an active bowling team sponsor at Char Lanes in Charlotte. Later in life, she moved to Ivan Woods Senior Apts., in Lansing, where she loved playing Bingo, singing at church, and being with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert C. Nightengale and sister, Betty Childs.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Mark) Smith of Atlanta, Mich.; sister, Donna Berg of Clearwater Fla.; brothers, Buel (Mary) Lockhart of Mt. Dora, Fla.; grandchildren, Travis Nightengale, Philip Hosey, both of Charlotte, Holly Henderson, Beth Pangburn, Margo Sharp, Amber Smith, all of Lansing; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment followed in Maple Hill Cemetery.
