Marcia Miller

Marcia E. (Farrier) Miller, 81, of Charlotte, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Miller was born Aug. 15, 1928 in Lansing, the daughter of Bert and Irene (Wight) Farrier and was a 60 year resident of Charlotte.

She was a Charlotte High School graduate and had been employed as a food service employee at Charlotte Public Schools from where she retired in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy D. Miller on Aug. 8, 2009; sister and brother-in-law, Hester and Duane Tuckey; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Harold Rose and brother-in-law, Raymond Ruthruff.

Surviving are her daughter, Diana Bosworth of Charlotte; two sons, Terry (Jorene) Miller of Longview, Texas and Robin Miller of Florida; six grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Ruthruff and Carla (Edward) Dunning and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Private family services will be held.

I lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Siren-Eaton Shelter, Eaton Community Hospice of the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Paul Earl Miller

Paul Earl Miller of Eaton Rapids, age 63, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 in Lansing. Paul was born May 30, 1945 in Charlotte, MI, the son of Fred Elmer and Laura (Ryan) Miller. He and his wife were the former owners/managers of Miller’s Art & Office Supply in Eaton Rapids. Paul had worked for the State Highway Department for 10 years, was a former member of Kiwanis Club, and the Jaycee’s in Eaton Rapids. He enjoyed genealogy and collecting sports cards and comics. Paul umpired and officiated at softball and basketball games for over 30 years in Eaton Rapids, Lansing and Delta Township. Preceded in death by his father, Fred Miller; and mother, Laura Serage.

Paul is survived by his wife, Cheryl Miller of Eaton Rapids; 2 daughters, Christy Miller of Eaton Rapids, Caren Miller of Holt; 1 son, Paul (Liana) Miller, Jr. of Bellevue, OH; 5 grandchildren, Logan, Mason, Kaden Miller, Sarah LeVasseur, and Irene LeVasseur; 2 sisters, Grace (Lonnie) Wolfe of Charlotte, Becky (Joe Hinton) Lane of Battle Creek; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 209 at the Assembly of God Church with Pastor Jim Riley officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church in memory of Paul Miller. www.shellyodell.com.

Peter Minier

Peter G. Minier, of Charlotte, born Jan. 18, 1920, the son of Herman and Rose Minier in Kane, Pa., passed away peacefully Nov. 15, 2009, at the age of 89. Peter proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. Trucks, trains and heavy equipment were his passion. He once owned his own trucking company, P.G. Minier Trucking, in Ridgeway, Pa. His favorite jobs were working with heavy equipment, especially the Manatwok Shovel! Peter liked to stay busy tinkering around the house and spending time with family.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; son, Peter Minier and sister, Martha Sestena. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Helen; children, Jeanne Minier of Charlotte, Larry (Rose) Huhn of Eagle, Wayne (Tanya) Huhn of DeWitt, Diane Mominee of Charlotte, Joann (Tom) Carpenter of Charlotte and John (Sue) Minier of NY, and 212 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren; and two nieces. A memorial service to celebrate Pete’s life was held Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Charlotte Church of Christ, 64 Vansickle Dr., Charlotte, with Pastor John Bailey officiating. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Papa Pete’s special caregivers, Gary, Judy and the rest of the staff at Eaton Community Hospice. You are truly a blessing.

Clarance Minix

Clarance Scott Minix, of Lansing, died Friday, July 10, 2009. Clarance was the infant son of Surena Minix.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Ella Moore

Ella K. Moore, 83, of Olivet, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 at her residence. Ella was born Jan. 11, 1926 in Agar, SD, the daughter of Hio and Anna (Harms) Heien and had been an Olivet resident since 1956, coming from Charlotte.

She was a graduate of Pierre, SD High School and had served as bookkeeper in the family owned business, top Notch Heating & Plumbing of Olivet.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Charlotte where she had taught Vacation Bible School for many years and was a member of the Maple City Post #2406 V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Warren “Mike” Moore in 2005; sisters, Alma, Lenice, Ethel and her twin, Helen and brothers, Donny and Alvin.

Surviving are her three children, Darlene Moore of Tampa, Fla., Chris Moore of Olivet and Charlene (Bob) Miller of Traverse City, Mich., and one sister, Lauretta Scott of Vivian, SD.

Memorial services were held Monday, July 20, 2009 at the First Lutheran Church in Charlotte with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Lutheran Church or Great Lakes Hospice. Envelopes available at the funeral home and church.

Julius Moore

Julius Richard "Dick" Moore went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 1, 2009 at his home in Potterville surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 24, 1922 to Richard and Anna (Dagg) Moore in Newberry, Mich.

He owned his own plumbing and heating business in Cadillac, Mich., until 1971 when he moved to the Lansing area. He was the maintenance engineer for Provincial Nursing Homes, Longs Banquet Center and retired in 1987 from Great Lakes Christian College. After retirement, he drove the school bus for Potterville Public School for several years. He was known in the Cadillac area for holding up the "excursion scenic train" running between Lake City and Cadillac Michigan. He also rode in the rodeo at Cheyenne, Wyoming and Calgary Stampede and numerous horse shows around the Cadillac area. He was also actively involved with the Cadillac Fair Board.

Later in life, he enjoyed working at the Eaton County Fair as gate man and helping kids with their horses. He was an active member of the West Lansing Church of Christ and the Grand Ledge Church of Christ where he was known as the "candy man" to all the children.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deana; a combined family of five sons, Daniel (Sandy) Moore, Kenneth (Mary) Moore, Keith (Jheri) Moore, Lewis (Cindy) VanTuyl, and Charles (Taressa) VanTuyl; two daughters, Virginia (Thomas) White and Susan (Robert) Pena; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor William Horton officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Ledge Church of Christ building fund in Grand Ledge.

Stanley W. Moore Jr.

Stanley W. Moore Jr., 67, of Springport, formerly of Seward Penn., passed away at his home in Springport, July 27, 2009. Stanley was born in Harmonyville, Penn. on Feb. 20, 1943, the son of Stanley W. Sr. and Grace (Seese) Moore.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1964. Stanley worked for Bethlehem Steel in Penn., Great Lakes Steel and Maci in Michigan, where he worked as a master electrician in the maintenance department. He was a member of Griffith United Methodist Church since 2004. Stanley was a jack of all trades and a handyman. He collected model trains and had a pole barn full of his collections.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Thelma (McGinnis); daughters, Cindy (Wayne) Woodson of Hagerston, Md., Sheri (Ronald) Vargo of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; son, Stanley Wilbert Moore III of Gilbraltar, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; one great grandson; brother, William (Ruth) Moore; sisters, Elly (Tom) Prigmore, Betty Roth and Jane Shannon, all of Penn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held 11 am Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Cynthia Morency

Cynthia Joann (Hoffman) Morency, 46 of Westland, Mich., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009. Cindy was born May 9, 1962 in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Roy Hoffman and Patricia Jones Baker.

Cindy was a waitress at various local restaurants.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Angela Baker; grandfather, Homer Jones and grandparents, Dorothy and Dewey Dull.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; son, Michael (Stacey) Ripley; granddaughter, Brooke; brothers, William Hoffman, Christopher Hoffman, Scott Baker and Brad Baker; sister, Reda Hoffman; grandmother, Opal Jones; stepfather, Jerry Baker.

Memorial Services were held Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Reverend Rich Mitterling officiating.

William “Bill” Gust Morey

William ”Bill” Gust Morey, 86, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Lansing, passed away in Eaton Rapids Sept. 3, 2009. He was born in Lansing March 7, 1923, the son of William and Mabel (Higland) Morey. Bill joined the Navy in WWII. He worked for General Motors at the Oldsmobile plant for 35 years and retired in 1975. He was a longtime member of the UAW Local 652. Bill enjoyed motorcycling with the Pigeon Inn motorcycle club, hunting, golfing, and boating. Bill is survived by two daughters, Grace Jones of Eaton Rapids, and Karen Partee of Holt; his companion, Grace Smith; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Swan of Dimondale. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; siblings, Harold Morey, Ruth Olin, Grace Smock and Warren Morey. Services for Bill will be at 1 p.m., Sept. 26, 2009 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Rd. Lansing, MI. Arrangements were entrusted to the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Linda Morgan

Linda Marie Morgan, 61, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 5, 1947, the daughter of the late Jim and Marilyn Morgan of Dearborn, Mich.

Linda was a graduate of Michigan State University and remained a loyal MSU sports fan, flying her MSU flag for every game. Linda retired in 2002 from the Michigan Department of State Police with 25 years of service, the majority of her career in traffic services and later as a computer analyst with CJIC.

Surviving are three brothers, Carl (Mary Ann), Paul, and Evan Morgan; nephew, Andrew and nieces, Rachel and Angela; many caring friends, and her special companion, "Chep."

A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at the Palmer Bush Funeral Home, Delta Chapel. In her final days, Linda was lovingly cared for by family, friends, and Eaton Community Hospice.
