Everett Dale Mahan
Everett Dale Mahan, 87, of Charlotte, formerly an Oldsmobile General Supervisor of Product Engineering Specifications and Reproductions & New Car Specifications Coordinator, passed away on Aug. 16, 2009 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Eaton County on June 1, 1922, to Elmer and Murlie (Bryan) Mahan. He graduated from Olivet High School in 1940 and immediately got a position at Oldsmobile, completing further degrees and course studies in engineering. He retired after 40 years. During WWII he served with the U.S. Army in Europe with the 787 Field Artillery in two major campaigns, earning EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Germany Occupation Ribbon.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey (Parr), and four children: Kathy Rice (Minnesota), Terri Mahan (Arizona), Jeff Mahan (Michigan), Greg (Ginger) Mahan (Arizona), five grandchildren and two great grandchildren all of whom he was exceedingly proud. He also always cherished the love of in-laws Keith and Barbara French, Max and Mary Lou Powers, Janette Johns, Ila Mae Young and their children.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Mahan, and sister-in-law, Florence. Special niece and nephew, Marilyn and Bruce Hart are his only living Mahan relatives.
He was a very avid hunter, fisherman, and athlete who enjoyed all sports, especially golf, which he was secretary of many leagues after retirement. Dale and Audrey spent 26 years of winter retirement in Florida where they had many wonderful friends and great times. Dale was a Past Patron and Life Member of Maple City Chapter #218, O.E.S. and a Past Master and Life Member of Charlotte Masonic Lodge #120. He was also a proud member and an Ambassador of the Grand Rapids Saladin Shrine Temple and a member and Past President of the Eaton County Shrine Club. He was a life member of VFW Post #2406 in Charlotte and a member of the American Legion Post #42.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make contributions to the Shriners Crippled Children Fund or Charlotte Lodge Masonic Lodge #120.
Beverly Main
Beverly passed away with her family at her side July 27,2009 after a strong battle with lung cancer. She was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Mason to George W. and Sadie I. Smail.
She moved to Eaton Rapids and completed high school in 1953, and she continued to be involved in the class of ’53 reunions. She has been an active member of Women of the Moose 116, Lansing, for over 30 years, Sarasota, Fla. Elks, and Lansing Eagles 1039, active member of Capitol City Old Car Club for over 35 years, Charter member of Palm Lake Social Club in the Gardens, in Parrish, Fla., where she planned many events. She loved to plan events and entertain her friends and family.
She helped her husband Gordon D. Main build Main Electronics Company to a well known Standard Calibration Lab, from which they both retired. She was involved with antique cars and car shows, and camping at the drag races with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon D. Main; grandparents; parents; brothers, Joey Jean Smail, Harold Smail; sister, Ella Jane Higdon; and grandson, M. Sample.
She is survived by her son, Randall Turner, and daughter-in-law, Monica; daughter Renae Sample; grandson, Scott (Colleen) Turner; granddaughters, Stephanie Turner and Tina Kisor; and four great granddaughters.
The family received friends at Skinner Funeral Home on Thursday July 30 with services held on Friday at the funeral home.

Janet Marcus
Janet Sue (Krusell) Marcus, 53, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at her residence. Jan was born March 6, 1956 in Charlotte, the daughter of Hilding and Betty (Montgomery) Krusell and had lived most of her life in Charlotte. She was mainly a homemaker and had been employed for many years at the Tri-County Community Mental Health Agency. She was an active member of the Eaton County Humane Society.
Surviving are: her husband of more than 15 years, Peter Marcus; her loyal dogs, Ziggy and Pippin; brother, Jim Krusell; sister, Julie Krusell; niece, Sally Krusell and sister-in-law, Jill Krusell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per Jan’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Paul E. Marietta
Paul E. Marietta, 77, of Eaton Rapids, born June 19, 1932 in Charlesworth, passed away at home on Sept. 21, 2009.
Paul was a former farmer; retired from General Motors Corp. in 1982 and was owner of Miller’s Old Mill Restaurant in Eaton Rapids. He enjoyed fishing, camping, Tiger baseball and his dog Peanuts. His wife of 51 years, Joyce, predeceased him.
He is survived by his children: Tom (Teresa) Marietta, Kathy (Vance) Saunders, Debbie Canfield and Steve Marietta, all of Eaton Rapids; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Mary) Marietta of Eaton Rapids; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sharon (Terry) Perkins of Chippewa Lake, Phyllis (Tom) Murray of Grand Ledge, Esther Harris of Eaton Rapids, and Duane (Linda) Harris of Eaton Rapids; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Hamlin Twp., Eaton County.

Wilbur Marsh
Wilbur C. Marsh, 90, of Vermontville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at home, surrounded by his family. Wilbur was born Aug. 16, 1919 in Albion, the son of Wilbur and Fern (Dunn) Marsh, Sr. Wilbur graduated from Litchfield High School and Wayne State Mortuary College in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
At 14, he started working for his father at the Marsh Funeral Home in Litchfield, Mich. After becoming a licensed mortician. he worked for Leonard’s Funeral Home in Hastings and then moved to Vermontville where he managed the Vogt Funeral Home for many years. After retiring as a mortician, he worked for Stanton’s Real Estate and Auctioneering and then as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hastings for 60 years. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.
Surviving are: his wife, Kay, daughter, Becky (Dennis) Marsh Day; son, Tom Marsh; son-in-law, Alan Hamlin; grandson, Mark (Cindy) Hamlin; two great grandson, Devin and Aaron Hamlin; sister, Marjorie Whitehead and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Hamlin; two sisters, Dorothy (Harvey) Griffiths and Verl (Bob) Young and a brother, Fay (Madge) Marsh.
My husband, my father, my friend will be greatly missed for his kind heart, ready smile and quick wit.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church. Friends are invited to visit with the family before, as well as after, the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Pennock Hospice, Hastings, Eaton Community Hospice, Charlotte or Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Carol Marshall
Carol S. Marshall, 59, of Vermontville, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Eaton Community Hospice House from cancer. Carol was born March 3, 1950 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Robert and Vera (Roberts) Cronk. Loving the medical field, her jobs consisted of being a medical assistant, Hospice volunteer and an EMT for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Ruth (Adam) Jackson of Galion, Ohio; mom, Vera Cronk of Charlotte, brothers, Jim (Sharon) Cronk of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter and several brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 2007 and dad, Bob Cronk in 1999; daughter, Linda (Eugene) Emery in 2004.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Chris Cronk, nephew officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Anna Martens
Anna M. Martens, 66, of Charlotte, on Tuesday, March 17, 209 rejoined her husband after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Mrs. Martens was born Feb. 14, 1943 in Charlotte, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Redfield) Brandt.
Mrs. Martens enjoyed sewing, painting, crafts and home decorating. She was most proud of her grandchildren and lived knowing that “God has always been on my shoulder”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; brother, Victor and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri (Frank) Combs; son, Keith (Sue) Martens; three grandchildren, Shawdai, Kailee and Kari; great grandchild, Kelsie; brothers, Floyd (Connie) Brandt; Frank (Corinne) Brandt, Jr., and John (Susie) Brandt; sisters, Mary Davis; Judy (Jim) Hanson and Teresa Hammond.
Funeral services were to be held Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing.

Donald Martin
Donald J. Martin, 81, of Vermontville, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009 following a brief, but valiant battle with cancer, at the home of his daughter.
Don was born in Lansing on Jan. 2, 1928, the son of the late Jay and Myrna (Mingus) Martin. He was raised in the Grand Ledge area and attended area school there graduating from Grand Ledge High School in 1947.
Don was married to his beloved wife, Esther (Meister) Martin for 61 years, after meeting her at a youth fellowship event in Delta Mills. They made their home in the Lansing area until Don entered the Army in 1952. After returning home, the couple moved to Vermontville where they raised their family together.
Don was employed at the GM Fisher Body in Lansing for over 40 years until retiring in 1987. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go hunting, fishing and camping. He also dabbled in woodworking and always had a remodeling project in progress in their home. Don was a member of the Peace United Methodist Church of Nashville, the American Legion of Vermontville; Lion’s Club for over 30 years and was a Cub Scout leader and Cub Master in Vermontville for over 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Parker and Leloa Martin; and his brother, Wayne Martin.
Don is survived by his best friend and wife, Esther (Suzie); two daughters, Gail (Bruce) Hulbert of Lansing, Lois (Wayne) Hammonds of Vermontville; a son, Donald J. (Lori) Martin II of Montrose; and a sister, Ila Sealy of Grand Ledge. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren
Funeral services were held at the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville on Wednesday March 11, 2009 with Pastor Susan Olsen officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Peace United Methodist Church, 6043 E. M79 Hwy., Nashville, MI 49073 or to the Adult Handicapped Program C/O Eaton Intermediate 1790 E. Packard, Charlotte, MI 48813. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
Sharon Mason
Sharon Elaine Mason, 61, of Vermontville, died Sunday April 12, 2009 following a lengthy illness. Sharon was born March 4, 1948 in Battle Creek, to her parents Franklyn and Helen (Conine) Richmond.
Many will remember her as a cashier at the local K-Mart store in Charlotte. Sharon was a member of the Vermontville Congregational Church Ladies Christian Association and the Order of the eastern Star. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing time with friends and family over a game of cards. Over the years she learned a great deal about the world by opening her home to foreign-exchange students.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bill; daughters, Tamira (Kurt) Mockridge of Jackson, Tenn., and Rebecca Mason of Vermontville; three grandchildren, Kylynne, Kayla, and Dylan Mockridge; and two step-brothers, Charles (Connie) Corbin, and Robert (Sherri) Corbin, both of Battle Creek.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 17 at the First Congregational Church of Vermontville with Rev. Israel Young and Rev. Sally Nolan officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.
