Rose C. Laraway
Rose C. Laraway of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Hudson, NY, died Sunday, Aug. 30 at Dimondale Nursing Center in Windsor Twp. at the age of 97. She was born July 2, 1912 in Hudson, the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Manchuck) Parchuck. Rose was a weaver for A.D. Jouliard Mill sin Stottville, and was the widow of Joseph Kaczanowcke who died in 1971.
Surviving are her son, William and (Sandra) Kaczanowcke of Eaton Rapids, MI, two grandchildren, Christina Lynn Noyes and Joseph William Kaczanowcke; and two great grandchildren, Caylee and Robert Noyes.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by brothers, Martin, Edward, Joseph and Frank Parchuck; and sisters, Agnes Sereikis, Martha Tuczynski and Agnes Doviskie. Funeral services were Friday Sept. 3 at the funeral home with Deacon Charles O’Neill officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.

Michael Larkins
On Oct. 3, 2009, two days after his 56th birthday and seven days before his first anniversary, Michael (Mike) J. Larkins went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a short courageous battle with a rare form of gastric cancer. Mike was the eldest son of Harold (Dar) Larkins and Loraine Larkins (Pete Hills) of Mason.
Mike graduated from Mason High School with the class of 1971. Mike hired in a MSU in their computer department right after high school and worked there until he was drafted into the Army in 1972. After serving in the military as a Chaplin’s assistant at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, he returned to MSU until he was hired by NCR. At NCR, Mike taught every course offered in the Teradata curriculum and gained a reputation as one of the best Teradata utility and SQL experts in the business. He retired from NCR in April of 2000 after 18 years of service.
In retirement, Mike joined Thomas Coffing of Coffing Data Warehousing of Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Coffing called Mike “a genius”, and a pioneer in the world wide data warehouse world.
Mike had the privilege of traveling all over the world teaching major corporations about Teradata. He was highly sought after by corporations such as BCBS, Boeing and Verizon. Mike, along with Tom Coffing wrote the highly sought after book “Teradata Unleash the Power”, which employees have found to be so beneficial that offices often told them that their copies often mysteriously disappear from their desks.
Mike was not only a great business man, he had a heart for people. One of his greatest pleasures was serving weekly at the Lansing City Rescue Mission over the last eight years. He also served with the Holt Food Bank, The American Legion Posts of Mason and Holt and in many areas at his church.
Mike is survived by both parents, his loving wife, Kolleen; her children, Kenneth (Heather) Scott, Christian Scott; two grandchildren, Ravyn and Marley; his brother, Steven (Shannon); sister, Patricia Haindel; brother, Thomas (Tammy); grandmother, Neva Strickling and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a military graveside service at Markham Cemetery on Grovenburg Road on Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m.; a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church on Dunckel. Donations can be made to the Lansing Rescue Mission or the Trinity Community Food Drive

Ronald C. “Ron” Larkins
Ronald C. “Ron” Larkins, age 77 of Eaton Rapids died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte following a terminal illness. Born November 5, 1931 in Ingham County, MI the son of Carl and Muriel (Holtz) Larkins. Following graduation of high school Ron enlisted in the Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #15 in Eaton Rapids. Ron retired with 25 years of service as a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan working on labor farms and driving bus, retiring in 1991. He was a Fireman and former Captain of the City of Eaton Rapids Fire Department and area for over 27 years. Currently Ron was a member of the First Congregational Church and had served on many boards. Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Lou; parents, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sons, Gordon (Amy) Larkins and Gregory (Tammy) Larkins; 4 grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah, Jarrett and Gabrielle; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapid with burial following in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church at 300 S. Wayne Lennon
Wayne Bernard Lennon, 85, of Bellevue, died peacefully Jan. 13, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 24, 1923, the son of Bernard and Zelma (Pierce) Lennon in Bellevue.
He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1940 and retired from Kellogg’s after 35 years of service. As a life-long member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Wayne was involved in all aspects of parish ministries.
He was also a longtime member of Bellevue Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year in 2005, a member of the Kellogg’s 25 Year Club and the Secular Order of the Franciscans. Wayne enjoyed gatherings with his family and friends; his coffee-klatch group which included his sisters, their spouses and his very good friend, Dewey Lewis. He also enjoyed woodworking, remodeling his children’s homes and mowing his lawn with his 1978 John Deere tractor. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Julia (Sulyok) Lennon in 2003; his parents and sister, Doris (Leon) Samulak.
He is survived by his sons, James (Linda) Lennon of Elmhurst, Ill., Michael (Karen) Lennon of Delton; daughters, Deborah (Steve) Green of Bellevue, Connie Lennon of Bellevue, Mary Moreland of Galesburg and Martha (Don) Otto of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five foster great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret (Frank) Price and Bernice (Jack) Woods, all of Battle Creek and his faithful dog, Emmie Sue.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. James Lothamer, officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may go to St. Ann Catholic Church or Bellevue Lion’s Club.

Arthur Lied
Arthur Leland Lied Sr., 85, of Charlotte, passed away on Dec. 26, 2009. Mr. Lied was born April 8, 1924 in Escanaba, Mich., the son of Walter and Ruth (Johnson) Lied.
Arthur served in the United States Air Force as Corporal in the Quartermaster’s Supply Corp during WWII.
He worked for the family dairy, Lied’s Dairy in Gladstone and Escanaba, being quite proud of his Best Blue Moon Ice Cream. After the dairy was sold, he was employed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
He was a member of The Knights of Columbus as well as St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte. Arthur was an organizer and a leader.
He also loved gardening and was well known for his beautiful roses. Hunting and fishing were things he also enjoyed, especially organizing Canadian fishing trips with his son Arthur.
He was preceded in death by brother, Marvin Lied and granddaughter, Christine Wonch.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona; daughter, Judy (Norm) Wonch of Charlotte; son, Arthur (Becky) Lied Jr. of Swartz Creek, Mich.; sisters, Joyce (Eugene) Casanova of Green Bay, Wis., and Shirley Lied of Calif.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Father Francis Mossholder officiating.

Jacqueline Faye Lilly
Jacqueline Faye Lilly of Eaton Rapids, age 63, passed away in Lansing October 3, 2009. She was born in Charlotte, December 10, 1945, the daughter of Alfred and Mable (Ebright) Byron, Jacqueline was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High school. She was a homemaker most of her life and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed the company of all her CB radio friends, bird watching, feeding the birds and squirrels. Her grandchildren were a very special part of her life.
Jacqueline is survived by her daughters, Sherri Ann Hernandez of Eaton Rapids, Dawn Marie Canfield of Eaton Rapids; sons, Larry Jenkins of Akron, OH, Kenneth Michael Lilly Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Arthur Jay Lilly of Eaton Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Nicole Hernandez of Greenville, SC, Tyler Jenkins of Akron, OH, Leah Canfield of Eaton Rapids, Kameron Jenkins of Akron, OH; brother, Alfred “Sonny”; sisters, Lois, Linda and Penny. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be 1 pm Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Church of the Nazarene, 2225 S. Michigan St. Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Dallas McFarlane officiating. Harold Locke
Harold Richard “Dick” Locke, 81, of Eaton Rapids, passed away peacefully at home Monday, December 14, 2009. One of five children, Dick was born June 3, 1928 to Clarence and Ruth Locke. He retired from General Motors in 1982 after 35 years of service as a millwright. He enjoyed spending time with family, relaxing at his cabin near Ludington, fishing and working on cars.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Preston of Eaton Rapids; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Larry Locke; sister, NaDean Onley; daughter-in-law, Doris Locke and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Joan Ottney for her many years of caring.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Shirley (Roth) Locke; son, Terry Locke; sister, Mary Jane Terwilliger and a brother, Bill Locke.

David Michael Long
David Michael Long of Eaton Rapids, age 62, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in Charlotte. David was born July 19, 1946 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Max and Beverly (Sadler) Long. He retired from Jackson Prison, where he worked as a corrections officer for 24 years. David loved going to the casinos, auctions and spending time with his family David always had an upbeat attitude and never gave up hope or complained during his courageous battle with brain cancer GBM).
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sharon M. (Breeden) Long; daughter, Mary (Bryan) Crandall of Eaton Rapids, son David (Niki) Long II of Charlotte, stepsons, Justin (Shelley) Shipman of Houston, Texas and Jason (Yvonne) Shipman of Lansing; brother, James Long of Eaton Rapids; 11 grandchildren; special brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Larry and Shirley Bennett. David was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services were held on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids.
Dean E. Long
Dean E. Long, 65, of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his residence while under the care of his family and the Eaton Community Hospice. He was born March 18, 1943 in Eaton Rapids the son of George and Beatrice (Peck) Long.
Dean was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1961. He had worked for the Eaton Stamping Co. in Eaton Rapids as a general foreman retiring after 42 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a master at woodworking. Dean was fascinated with bald eagles and possessed a beautiful collection of eagle figurines.
Preceding him in death are his father, George and sister, Kit. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Shug; two daughters, Michelle (Bob) Kinch of Pleasant Lake and Teresa (Jon) Stanton of Duck Lake; two grandchildren, Shawn Elston and Kristin (Rob Olson) Elston; mother, Bea Long of Dimondale; sister, Pat (Jerry) Slentz of Eaton Rapids; brother, Victor Long of Eaton Rapids; son-in-law, Rick Elston of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews and faithful companion and lap dog, Zanders.
Memorial services were March 11 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. John Metcalf, officiating.
