Jean G. Halsey
Jean G. Halsey of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, age 87 died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte. Burn August 15, 1921 in Hamlin Township, the daughter of Loyt and Bernice (Lindley) Snoke. Jean was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1938. She was a member of the Griffith United Methodist Church and a member of the Eaton Rapids Senior Center. She worked for 19 years as a floral arranger for Hastay’s Greenhouse in Eaton Rapids. She loved to work and nurture flowers and was an avid fisherman with her husband Allen. Preceding her in death was her husband, Allen in 1998; brother, M. Vere Snoke and sister, Betty Palmer.
She is survived by her 3 children, Gordon (Evelyn) Halsey of Rosedale, IN, Debra Halsey of Eaton Rapids and Connie (Paul) Dassance of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 11, 2009 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. The Rev. Michael Baker-Streevy of the Griffith United Methodist Church, officiated. Duane Hamilton
Duane Allen Hamilton, 72 ½, of Nashville, went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2009 while surrounded by his wife and children. He fought a brief but determined battle against pancreatic cancer. Duane was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Hastings, the son of Emmett and Hazel (Hollister) Hamilton.
He graduated from Nashville High, then married Ruth Ann Ford on Nov. 6, 1954. As a teenager, Duane worked in his father’s lime, marl, and dragline business. In 1955, at the age of 19, he purchased his first bulldozer and established Duane Hamilton Excavating, which continues today. For the next 54 years, he did what he truly loved.
Duane served on the Maple Grove Township Board as a trustee from 1970 to 1984. He attended Maple Grove Bible Church for 60 years. His favorite past-time was watching his children and grandchildren participate in all of their sporting activities.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, and stepmother, Minnie Hamilton; step-brother, Pastor Leonard Radtke of Aurora, Minn.; father and mother-in-law, Maurice and Hannah Ford.
Duane will be sadly missed by his caring, devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Ann and their seven children, Steven (Teresa) Hamilton, Shelley (Rick) Winegar, Gary (Tonja) Hamilton, Mike (Julie) Hamilton, Alan (Eva) Hamilton, Jeff (Suzi) Hamilton, Joy (Craig) Hamp; 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one brother, Darrell (Claudette) Hamilton; brother and sister-in-law, Russel (Linda) Ford; Aunt Marion Hamilton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Duane’s life will take place at Nashville Baptist Church on Saturday, Mary 21 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Grove Bible Church, Pennock Hospice or to the Maple Valley Scholarship Association in the names of Duane and Ruth Ann Hamilton.
Evalyn Hamlin
Evalyn Anne (Simpson) Hamlin, 68, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Dimondale Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Hamlin was born May 16, 19841 in Detroit, the daughter of Robert and Evalyn (Knight) Simpson.
She had been a Charlotte resident for 23 years coming from Texas where she had lived for a short time. Prior to that, she was a Detroit area resident. She was a 1959 graduate of Roseville High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are four children, David (Kristy) Hamlin of Montgomery, Texas, Gordon Hamlin of Clio, Mich., Melissa Hamlin of Charlotte and Jamie (Linda) Hamlin of Tomball, Texas; one grandchild, Austin Blakney; three sisters, Charlotte (Willie) Williams of Charlotte, Audrey Simpson of Grand Ledge, and Roberta Clodfelter of Clinton Township and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. An interment services was held Friday, June 26 at the Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Chapel in Clinton Township, Mich.

Edna Hammond
Edna B. Hammond, 91, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. She was born July 15, 1918 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of George and Alma (Schultz) Zanger. Edna was a lab technician for Optometrist Dr. Chapman and Dr. Britten in Charlotte. She was a member of the Church Circle at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, a Den Mother and Blue Birds leader. She loved to read, sew clothes for her grandkids, go snowmobiling and taking rips to Florida.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Ron) Kolodica of Albion and Lynda (Cork) Sweezey of Charlotte; son, Kirk (Jackie) Hammond of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Chuck Zanger, Jack Garner, Don Swart, Clarence Zanger and John Zanger and sisters, Esther Sloan, Mary Morrison, Verna Ratliff, Sherry Burton and Lillian Dowding.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arland Hammond in 2005; brothers, Tiny DePew, Floyd Jackson and Gene VanNostrand and sister, Marjorie Pedjac.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.

Gayle F. Hammond
Gayle F. Hammond died September 9, 2009 of Cardiac Arrest in Texas. He had been battling cancer. Hammond was born Sept. 19, 1958 in Marshall to Betty Dahlem and George F. Hammond. He was a truck driver and mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, daughter Angela and stepson Thomas (Duzi). He is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Edward and Betty Goostrey, his father George and Lillian Hammond and his brother Reverend Douglas (Nancy) Hammond, he had four stepbrothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Reverend Steven Hammond and sister Dawn.
Wilma Hanson
Wilma L. Hanson, 89 of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was born April 20, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of the late William S. and Edvena (Olsen) Sinclair. On May 7, 1950, in Benzonia, she married Wallace A. Hanson who preceded her in death on April 12, 2003.
Formerly of Charlotte, Wilma had been a resident of the Traverse City and Benzonia area since 1980. She was a very active member for 25 years of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Most recently, she was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City and the First Congregational Church in Benzonia.
Wilma was a graduate of Central Michigan University who, prior to her career as wife and mother, taught at the Reed City High School and General Motors Institute. She continued her quest for knowledge reading voraciously throughout her life. Although traveling was hard for her she saw the world through her books.
Wilma is survived by her children, Alan Hanson, Elizabeth (Dan) Marois, both of Traverse City, and Christine (Rich) Miller of Savannah, GA; sisters, Jean Hanson of Mt. Pleasant, Marjorie (Royal) Call of Beulah and Mary Hopkins of Benzonia; grandchildren Laura (Dan) Eaton, Melissa Hanson, Holly and Joshua Mellinger, Boone and Calvin Marois and LeeAnne (Mike) Whilden; great-granddaughter, Emily Whilden; and sister-in-law, Norma Hanson of Lansing.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wilma's many special caregivers, who surrounded her with much love and comfort through-out the past several years.
Memorial services will be held at a later date, at which time arrangements will be announced.

Eleanor Elizabeth Harmon
Eleanor Elizabeth Harmon, age 80, of Springport, MI passed away Friday April 17, 2009 in Springport, MI. She was born July 17, 1928 in Lansing, MI to Carl J. and Lillian (Brush) Ebright. Eleanor married Boyden Junior Harmon in November of 1946. She enjoyed her cats, gardening, crocheting and watching WWF wrestling.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Boyden Junior Harmon; brother, Thomas Ebright; four sisters: Ronnie (Kenneth) Goodnoe, Delores Nichols, Carrie Nelson, and Lorraine Miller; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Ruth Ebright.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday May 2, 2009 at the VFW Hall in Springport, MI. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Marie Harmon
Marie J. (Uhl) Harmon, 80, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at the Eaton Community Hospice House, Charlotte. Marie was born June 24, 1929 in Charlotte, the daughter of Leon and Vera (Reed) Uhl and had lived most of her life in the Charlotte area.
She was the former operator of the Trad-In Post in Potterville and with her late husband, Robert Harmon had operated the Harmon Strawberry Farm on Millerburg Road.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Harmon; daughter, Roxanne Harmon; sons, Robert II, Charles, Jack and Byron Harmon and brothers, Chuck, LeRoy, Darrel, L.J. and Harold Uhl.
Surviving are her sons and daughters, Lonnie (Jane) Harmon of Minnesota, Penny (Bob) Granger of Charlotte, Jeff (Molly) Harmon of Missouri, Dean (Cindy) Harmon of Charlotte, David Harmon of Charlotte, Dawn (James) Morse of Charlotte, Christopher (Leisa) Harmon of Charlotte and Erick (Holly) Harmon of Lansing; numerous grand and great grandchildren and her brother, Richard (Betty) Uhl of Phoenix, Ariz.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or services.
Memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice. The family extends a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Eaton Community Hospice.

Doris Harris
Doris J. Harris, 86, of Howell, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Howell. Doris was born October 29, 1922, in Riverdale Mich., the daughter of the late Jessie W. and Bertha (Baxter) Harris. She met her husband, Dub, at Redmond’s factory in Owosso and married him on May 12, 1944 in Rolla Miss. They lived in Charlotte for 26 years, later moving to Howell, closer to their children. Doris was very loving and supportive to Dub and her family. She read her bible every day, enjoyed games with Dub and cooking with Gerri. She was always working a quilt or cross stitching in her lap, all the while her sweet spirit showing through. While living at Patty Lewis Care Home she made many good friends among staff and residents. She loved her beautiful view overlooking the pond and woods. Doris also loved getting out with her family for dinner or ice cream. She loved to visit Mark and Gerri’s home, reminiscing over the antiques and old dishes.
She is survived by her sons, Doug and Mark (Geralyn); grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Zachary, Joseph, Shannon; great grandchildren, DaeLynn, Avery; siblings, Robert (Janet) Harrison and Helen Songer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dub Harris on February 24, 2006 and sisters, Irene and Cecil. Funeral services were held Friday, October 16, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Charlotte. Interment was at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Bradley Harvey
Bradley Gayle Harvey, 35, of Dimondale, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2009 resulting from a hit and run accident. Mr. Harvey was born Jan. 31, 1974 in Lansing, a son of Nellie A. Harvey.
He was a 1992 graduate of Charlotte High School and was a mechanic.
Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Paul Ray Bergman.
Bradley will be greatly missed by his mother, Nellie; his beloved Beth Hall; two sisters, Erika (Duston) Twichell of Lansing and Autumn Harvey (Nickolas Plunkett) of Lansing; two half-brothers, Ronnie Borgman of Charlotte and Mark (Beth) Redfield of Grand Ledge; special niece, Ella Twichell; other nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles, Laura Harvey of Potterville, Tina (Brentnell) Johnson of Battle Creek, Robert Bodo of Charlotte, Shannon Bodo of Alaska and Roger Borgman of Olivet; cousins and friends.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 21 at the Charlotte Church of Christ with Chuck Jenson officiating.
