Ruby Green

Ruby Josephine Green “Jo” (Cady), of Jackson, formerly of Leslie, 94, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility. Ruby (Jo) was born Aug. 27, 1914 in Lansing, a daughter to Edward and Bertha (King) Judson.

She was raised in Mason and graduated in 1934 from Mason High School. In June 1934, she married Eben Paul Cady and they moved to their home in Leslie and raised a family of five children and a step-daughter, Virginia Rose Cady Sands, deceased. They were married 16 years when Eben passed away in 1950. Ruby (Jo) married Raymond C. Green in 1957 and he passed away on Sept. 12, 2002 after 45 years of marriage.

Rudy (Jo) retired from the Canteen Corporation Cafeteria at Consumers Power Parnall Road Building in 1986 after 25 years of service as the cashier. Ruby (Jo) was a member of the Order of the Amaranth Flint Court 2, Order of Easter Star, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and AARP.

Ruby (Jo) had three sisters and two brothers, all predeceased. Viola Judson (Edward), sister-in-law is the only survivor. She is survived by two sons, Paul D. Cady (Anna) and Eben D. Cady (Naomi) and one daughter, Pauline M. Cady, all of the Jackson area.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan E. Hill (Larry) of Leslie and daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Graydon Garfield of Battees Lake.

Also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

Funeral services for Ruby (Jo) were held at the J.C. Adams Funeral Home Leslie Chapel on Monday, May 18, 2009 with Pastor Toby Teague officiating.

Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jackson County Medical Care Facility’s Bingo Fund which was Rudy (Jo) favorite pastime.

The family gives a very special thank you to the staff and care CNN’s at Jackson County Medical Care Facility for their compassionate care and love expressed to Ruby. Her family is deeply appreciative to you all.

The family also gives a special thank you to hospice of Allegiance Health for their special attention and services.

Dorothy M. Greenman

Dorothy M. Greenman, 97, of Vicksburg passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. Dorothy was born on Jan. 19, 1912, in Fulton. She was the oldest daughter of Leon and Mary (Burns) Roberts.

She graduated from Union City High School in 1930.

On March 4, 1939 she married Leslie “Bill” Greenman. She was a member of the Fulton Christian Church, charter member of Michigan Farm Bureau Woman Association, Lotus Lily United 262 Order of Eastern Star Michigan, past matron of Fulton Chapter 331 and Lotus Lily United, Grand representative of Michigan in New Hampshire Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two children, James L. (Noreene) Greenman of Olivet and Jeanette Ridgley of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Diane (Robert) Fletter, Nancy Ridgley of Grand Rapids, Rachael (Tony) Eye of Bellevue, and Chad (Stephanie) Greenman of Olivet; seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brother-in-laws, Raymond Hill of Owosso and William Harrison of Climax.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie in 1966; two sisters, Jean Graham and Roberta Hill; and one son-in-law, John W. Ridgley II.

Bobbie Dianne (Waite) Gregg

Bobbie Dianne (Waite) Gregg of Eaton Rapids, age 63, passed away in Eaton Rapids, November 19, 2009. She was born in Bath, MI, May 13, 1946. Bobbie was a 1964 graduate of Bath High School. She married Richard Gregg on July 31, 1965 in East Lansing. Bobbie was a talented crafter and a flower gardener. She was a wonderful, loving homemaker to her husband and their 3 daughters.

Bobbie is survived by her husband Richard Michael James Gregg of Eaton Rapids; daughters, Tracy Lynn (Steven) Weston of Eaton Rapids, Barbara Dee (Meg Grow) Gregg of Minneapolis, MN, Jeanette Marie (Michael) Lane of Traverse City, MI; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca and Lukas Weston, Katelyn and Thomas Lane; 5 brothers and sisters, Dianne (Doug) David, Bonnie Duskey, Barry Waite, Bernie (Mickey) Bierschbach and Beckie Bierschbach. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Leone Squires; sister, Brenda Waite and sister-in-law, Joan Waite.

Memorial services were held November 22, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. www.shellyodell.com.

Mildred Griest

Mildred A. Griest, 93, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. Special gratitude is given to Dawn, the Hospice Nurse, for helping to fulfill her wish to die at home. Mildred was born July 25, 1916 in Leslie and was raised by Willard and Minnie Shaver. She was a lifelong Charlotte area resident.

Surviving are: two daughters, Carolyn Griest Makin of Orlando, Fla. and Kristine (Jerry) Haley of Charlotte; stepson, Michael “Skip” Griest of New York; stepdaughters, Patricia Lavengood of New Mexico, Faith “Peggy” Ah Puck of Hawaii and Diane Wright of Nevada; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and brother, Verlin (Virginia) Shaver of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Minnie Shaver; her husband, Estel E. Griest; stepdaughters, Marjorie Rowland and Kae Foote; sisters, Gladys Ward and Doris Kelley; brothers, Merlin, Arlo and Merton Miller and Dale and Lloyd Shaver and great-great granddaughter, Lillian Loveall.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Andy Shaver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte, MI 48813.

Kenneth Gullett

Kenneth Lee Gullett, of Lansing, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and true and loyal friend, has been freed from his life of pain after a very long and courageous battle with ankylosing spondylitis arthritis and lung disease. He was born in Blue Diamond, Ky., on July 9, 1945.

He graduated from Charlotte High School. He retired from General Motors after 28 years of service. Ken was a free spirit and independent thinker with an insatiable quest for knowledge and books. A self taught accomplished musician and singer, Ken could spend days without sleep playing his guitar and singing. Ken loved and treasured life, even in pain to the very end of his. His endurance was profound.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Lee Gullett and nephew, Brian Lee Oliver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Joan Gullett and Sandy Goodson; one adopted daughter, Sandy (Blair) Hutchinson; three step sons, Dale, Mark and Jody (Ann).; two step daughters, Angie and Kim; 11 grandchildren, Summer Lynn, Cody, Josh, Jarred, Justin, Brandi, Cyrstal, Kimberly, Brook, Zachary and Jestin; two great-grandchildren, Logan D. and Isaq; mother, Geneva "Jenny" Gullett; four sisters, Linda (John) Keyhoe, Carol (Mikell) Schneckenberger, Dawn (Mark) Van Port Fleet and Crystal Gullett and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Winford Collins officiating. Interment in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial contributions may go to the charity of one's choice.

Harriette Haag

Harriette Louise Haag, 92, of Potterville, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Mrs. Haag was born May 11, 1917, in Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of Harry B. and Gertrude L. (Lavan) Hall.

Mrs. Haag was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star. she loved her family and was very proud of them.

She was preceded in death by husband, Hubert Haag in 2007; and brothers, Lawrence and Howard Hall.

She is survived by daughter, Judith L. (Ken) Loper of North Liberty, Ind.; sons, Richard J. (Edda) Haag of League City, Texas, Michael D. (Marcy) Haag of Vermontville, Timothy A. (Kim) Haag of Mason; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Dale) Bovee of Alma, Mich.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lansing.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.

Adrian Hackworth

Adrian Hackworth, born Nov. 26, 1932 in Prestonsburg, Ky., passed away Oct. 22, 2009 in Aberdeen, SD.

He was preceded in death by his father, John, mother, Effie; and brother, Robert.

He is survived by wife June of Aberdeen, SD; three children, Carol Ann Valenzuela of Holt, Joe and Roger Hackworth (wife Connie) of Harrison; sister, Sharon Collins (husband Aaron) of Potterville; two brothers, Bob (wife Dee) of Florida and Ray (wife Joan) of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Charlotte Church of Christ with John Bailey officiating.

Catherine Halbeisen

Catherine W. Halbeisen, 93, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009. Mrs. Halbeisen was born May 31, 1915 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Ellis and Flossie (Gillett-Turner) Henry.

Mrs. Halbeisen was a member of the West Carmel Congregational Church Ladies Circle and MSU Extension and served many years as a 4-H leader. As a young adult she was a Sunday school teacher at the VFW home.

She enjoyed knitting hats for the Eaton/Siren Shelter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Halbeisen; son, Dennis Halbeisen; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Halbeisen and granddaughter, Bethany Rene Halbeisen.

She is survived by her son, Stephen (Valli) Halbeisen; daughter, Mary Ann Halbeisen; daughter, Kathleen (Doug) Shumaker; son, Ian Halbeisen; all of Charlotte; son, Alan (Linda) Halbeisen of Adam Mich.; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday April 3, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.

Dennis Halbeisen

Dennis L. Halbeisen, 59, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. Mr. Halbeisen was born June 24, 1949 in Charlotte, the son of Donald and Catherine (Henry) Halbeisen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie in 2005 and daughter, Bethany Rene in 1999.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Halbeisen; mother, Catherine Halbeisen; brother, Stephen (Valli) Halbeisen; sister, Mary Ann Halbeisen; sister, Katy (Doug) Shumaker; brother, Ian Halbeisen all of Charlotte; brother, Alan Halbeisen of Ada, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 2,2 009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment was in West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.

Elwood Halsey

Elwood Robert Halsey, 74, of Little Oak, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2008 in Birmingham.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Halsey of Little Oak; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bryan and Juanita Halsey of Pensacola, Stanley Halsey of Little Oak and Neil Halsey of Little Oak; grandsons, Robert and Stephen Halsey of Pensacola; sisters and brother-in-law, Ava and Merle Burdick of Michigan and Valerie Lee of California; sister-in-law, Esther Van Dam of Dade City, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy, Ala. Burial will follow in the Little Oak Cemetery. Dillard Funeral Home in Troy, Ala., directs.
