Clara French

Clara Elizabeth French, 102, of Lake Odessa, had her prayers answered and was taken home on Saturday morning, Aug. 15, 2009. Clara was born in Hume Twp., Mich., on May 27, 1907 to George and Clara (Randall) Ruth. She was a graduate of Bay City High School. Clara was united in marriage to Ernest French on Nov. 3, 1928.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Jean French; son-in-law, Charles Joseph Jr.; and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Rita Joseph of Potterville, and Donald and Janice French of Battle Creek; 14 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. A service of committal was held on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Odessa Library, or the First Congregational Church of Lake Odessa. Memories and messages may be left at www.koopsfc.com.

Vergie Fueri

Vergie Marcella Fueri, 99, of Nashville, Mich., passed away on March 13, 2009. Mrs. Fueri was born May 5, 1909 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Vern and Maude (Bollman) Cox.

Mrs. Fueri was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Raymond Fueri, Sr.; sons, Robert Raymond Fueri Jr., Gordon Eugene Fueri and James Edward Fueri; daughter, Virginia Carol Fueri; son-in-law, Hugh (Lennie) Maurer and daughter-in-law, Judy Fueri. Services will be 10:00 a.m.

She is survived by daughters, Lois Ann Maurer of Maryville, Tenn., and Janet Garner (Don Cook) of Charlotte; son, Paul V. Fueri of Astatula, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Mary Fueri of Nashville, Mich.; 16 grandchildren and blessed with many great and great-great grandchildren; special friends, Harold Nelson, Ron Walden, Lori Green, Troy and Parady Murray, Roger and Yvonne Beals and many brothers and sisters from various Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Halls.

Services were held Monday, March 16,2 009 at Pray Funeral Home with Troy Murray officiating. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Castleton, Nashville, Maple Grove EMS or Charlotte Area EMS.

Glenn A. “Mr. Fit It” Fuller

Glenn A. “Mr. Fix It” Fuller of Springport, age 46, passed away in Lansing, October 9, 2009. He was born in Seattle, Washington, August 17, 1963, the son of William and Coralee (Glenn) Fuller. Glenn was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School class of 1982. He enjoyed fixing cars for his friends and family and donated many cars to the Volunteers of America. Glenn also enjoyed drag racing, and helping stranded motorists on the side of the road. He was a man with a big heart.

Glenn is survived by his daughters, Kelsey and Morgan Fuller of Eaton Rapids; his significant other, Cathy Towsley; stepchildren, Courtney Towsley of Eaton Rapids, Kevin (Amanda) Dilsaver of Marshall, Jeff Rossman of Charlotte, NC; the mother of his children, Heather French of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Jakyob, Melysa, Charity; his VFW foster family, Wilma Bailey (mom), Renee Evans, Suzanne O’Brien, Patrick Rich; brother, Terry Fuller; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Judy Morgan. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, Lorraine and Frosty Glenn.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 with Pastor Dallas McFarland officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Volunteers of America, 430 N. Larch Lansing, MI 48901. www.shellyodell.com.

Mary Jane Galvin

Mary Jane Galvin, 87, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte. She was born July 29, 1921 in Jackson the daughter of William and Florence (Adams) Krumm.

Mary Jane was a former secretary for the Eaton Stamping Co. in Eaton Rapids. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lansing and the Lansing Business University. She was a very active member of Alpha Iota Sorority and the St. Peter Catholic Church. She was a lover of cats and enjoyed traveling and was a collector of angels and Hummel figurines.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Elis, Jesse and Donald Krumm; nephew, James Krumm.

Surviving are nieces and nephew, Kathleen (Edwin LeButt) Krumm of Jackson, Kay Krumm of Eaton Rapids and Robert (Carol) Krumm of Wyoming; sister-in-law, Emily Krumm of Eaton Rapids and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 25 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine as celebrant. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.

Rosemary Garn

Rosemary Garn, 80, Alanson, Mich., formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009. She was born July 12, 1929 in Charlotte, the daughter of Howard and Ursula (Hastings) Riley. Rosemary was a homemaker and she also taught at the Evangel Christian School North of Charlotte, she graduated from high school at the age of 16. She had a strong faith and desired that people would come to know the Lord. She made sure that her children had a background in music and she was very active in the Maple Valley Band Boosters. She supported her children in 4-H and she was always there to help people.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Doug; sons, riley (Anne) Garn of DeWitt, Randy (Roberta “Bobbie”) Garn of North Pole, Alaska, Rorey “Gregg” (Desarae) Garn of Alanson and Ricky (Jill) Garn of Charlotte; 30 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and sister, Betty Underhill of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ursula Riley; brother; Donald Riley; sister, Dorotha Mulholland and great grandson, Daniel Carr Garn.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Vance officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Crosspoint Christian Fellowship. Glen Gearhart

Glen, 76, passed away May 29, 2009 at the Angela Hospice House in Livonia, Mich. Glen graduated from Western Michigan University and was a dedicated teacher for 48 years, finishing his career at North Farmington High School and Lawrence Technological University. He, with his wife, owned Kaye Britton Travel Agency in Farmington Hills. He was an active part of the Gearhart Maple Syrup Business and his passion was his beautiful flower gardens and traveling the world with his beloved wife, Karen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Fern (Briggs) Gearhart and brother Karl E. Gearhart.

He is survived by his wife Karen; brother, Larry Gearhart; and sister, Janis (Douglas) Lowe and many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Tim Gearhart

Tim Gearhart, 46, Hastings, Mich., formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009. Mr. Gearhart was born Jan. 29, 1962 in Coldwater, Mich., the son of Marilyn (William) Hosey, and Larry Gearhart.

Tim was a salesman for Spartan Motors, able to incorporate his love of traveling with his job. He was a former Olivet firefighter, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries 3552 of Charlotte, and the Moose Lodge of Charlotte. He helped his family with their maple syrup business for many years and enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles.

He is survived by his parents; son, Brandon Gearhart; daughter, Aria Gearhart; granddaughter, Averie Converse; brothers, Todd Gearhart, and Tal Gearhart; and stepsons, Ben and Blake Greiner.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18,2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Jenson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eagles or Eaton Community Hospice.

Louise George

Louise A. (Johnson) George, 72, of Gun Lake, Middleville, Mich., formerly of Roscommon, Grand Ledge and Charlotte, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at the Pennock Hospital in Hastings after a long illness. Louise was born July 13, 1937 in Battle Creek, the daughter of John and Ada (Gage) Johnson. She had lived at the Gun Lake address for about three years, prior to that had been a resident of Roscommon for 35 years and prior to that had lived in Grand Ledge and Charlotte. She was a 1955 graduate of Charlotte High School where she was a member of the band, having played the saxophone. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and a former member of the Grand Ledge Jaycee Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, camping, making crafts, chair caning, cooking and most of all enjoyed being with her family.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Thomas J. George; children, Mark (Pamela) George of East Lansing, Michael (Betsy) George of Albany, Wis., and Ragene (Ronald) Catrell of Overland Park, Kan.; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and her sister, Carolyn (Duane) Carey of Charlotte.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Lung Association. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Phillip P. Gibbs

Phillip P. Gibbs, age 30, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, May 2, 2009. He was born January 21, 1979 in Eaton Rapids, the son of John Alexander Gibbs Sr. and Lynn Carew. Phillip was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1997 and a graduate of Criminal Justice in Corrections from LCC in Lansing. Phillip worked for the State of Michigan as a Corrections Officer in Jackson for the past 11 years. He was a member of the Michigan Corrections Organization AFL-CIO Local #526.

He loved spending time with his son Drew. Phillip also enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on and collecting trucks as well as doing home improvements. Preceding him in death was a brother, Steven Gibbs in 1993.

Surviving him are his son, drew Michael Gibbs; parents, Lynn (Bill) Carew of Eaton Rapids and John (Gerry) Gibbs Sr. of Marshall; grandmother, Lorraine Waite of Muskegon; 5 brothers and sister; John (Deb) Gibbs Jr. of St. Johns, Gary (Tammy) Gibbs of Avon, IN, twin sister, Becky (Jason) Mrazek of Eaton Rapids, David (Debbie) Carew of Buchannan, MI and Chris (Christy) Carew of Kalamazoo; 10 nieces and nephews; several aunts and uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Hofmann of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends t the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Barbara K. Gier

Barbara K. Gier of Eaton Rapids, MI, age 61 of Eaton Rapids died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at a Lansing hospital. Born July 12, 1948 in Bay City, the daughter of Harold and Thora (McConnell) Harris. Barbara formerly worked as a Secretary for the State of Michigan. She was a collector of Frog figurines with around 2,000 and was fondly referred to as the “Frog Princess”. Preceding her in death was her father, Harold; and two sisters, Bonnie and Beverly Harris.

She is survived by her husband Wilson of Eaton Rapids; mother, Thora Harris and sister, Brenda Melton; 4 nieces and 1 nephew all of Atlanta, GA.
