Jean E. Edgerly

Jean E. Edgerly, 72, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte. Mrs. Edgerly was born Nov. 13, 1936 in Orange Township, Ionia County, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Payne) Reeder and had been a Charlotte resident since 1976, coming from Belding.

She was a 1954 graduate of Carson City High School and was a retired employee of the Michigan Department of Corrections.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, the Ionia County Genealogical Society and the Courthouse Square Association of Charlotte.

She was a member of the Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital Courtesy Volunteers and did volunteer work at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Her hobbies were quilting and sending birthday cards to friends and family.

Surviving are her husband, Gaylord Edgerly; children, Helen (Darwyn) Simms, Jeffery (Debra) Cook, Gailen (Laura) Edgerly, Susan (Kelven) Lutterloh and Karen Jones; sisters, Joyce (Donald) Paulsen and Jackie (Richard) Christiansen; sister-in-laws, Shirley Reeder and Gigi English; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Wanetta Edgerly; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Reeder and John Reeder; and sister, Kathleen VanHeck.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, Charlotte with Ryan Manning officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eaton Community Hospice or the First Baptist Church, both of Charlotte.

Mary Lou Edington

Mary Lou Edington, 77, of Vermontville, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, 2009, in Lansing following a long illness. Mrs. Edington was born July 15, 1932 in Detroit and was employed in hospital housekeeping service.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph W. Eaton in 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Sue Partridge of Nashville and Vicki Jewell of DeWitt; one son, Rick Eaton of Vermontville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Services were held Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Pastor Don Woolum officiating. Interment was in Meadowbrook Cemetery.

Amos R. Ellsworth

Amos R. Ellsworth, 85, of Lansing, born June 17, 1924 in Watts, Calif., died Aug. 20, 2009.

He was a retired oil land leaser.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 23 years, Shirley (Beals) Ellsworth; his daughter Delphine (Joe) Bobinar of Indiana; sister, Mary (Harold) Thompson of Howell and brother, Jack of Florida; step-daughters, Marcia (Larry) Hicks, Pam (Ted) Buehler and Shirley (Duane Hall); many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews and many sisters and brothers-in-law.

Memorial was held at Olivet Baptist Church Aug. 29 with Pastor Ed Owens officiating.

Bruce Robert Elston

Bruce Robert Elston of Eaton Rapids, age 53, passed away in Lansing, September 7, 2009. He was born in Lansing, December 29, 1955, the son of Robert and Hilda (Getter) Elston. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1974. Bruce married Shirley Hablitzel on March 3, 1979 in Eaton Rapids. He worked as a welder most of his life. Bruce enjoyed working on cars, fishing, woodworking, watching the Red Wings and wrestling.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter Amber (Benjamin) Fritzler of Saginaw; son, Robert Elston of Eaton Rapids; brother, Herman (Shirley) Elston of Evart; sisters, Brenda Elston of Eaton Rapids, Linda (Gary) Brininstool of Eaton Rapids and Janice Elston of Brighton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Douglas Elston Sr., Jerry Wayne Elston.

Funeral services were held Saturday September 12, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. Pastor Daniel Hofmann officiated. Beaty Erhard

Beaty Erhard, born on December 19, 1930 in Michigan Center, Michigan died on December 17, 2009 in Redlands, California at the age of 78. Beaty was the wife of Dr. O. Stewart Erhard, a family practice physician who practiced in Eaton Rapids from 1959 to 1979. They moved to Loma Linda, California where they have lived for 30 years, still considering Eaton Rapids their home town.

Beaty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stew. They have four daughters, Dianne Jarrard, Karen Jones, Jody Wright, and Wendy Nelson; ten grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Beaty enjoyed swimming, tennis, snow skiing, running and gardening. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother to which she devoted her life.

Beaty valiantly fought Parkinson’s disease for nearly 40 years without ever losing her incredibly optimistic outlook. She was a member of the Loma Linda University Seventh-day Adventist Church. Nancy Ernst

Nancy A. Ernst, 81, of Galion, Ohio, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Altercare of Bucyrus. She was born April 20, 1928 in Ashland, the daughter of the late Buerhl Myers and Dorothy (Chandler) Myers.

Nancy graduated from Galion High School in 1946 and was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to raising four children, she and her husband owned and operated Bernie’s Place, a restaurant on South Market Street in Galion, where Nancy was a cook.

She also worked at Bernie’s Market, a small grocery they owned on Harding Way East.

She then worked at the former North Electric Company and later as a real estate agent for Jumm Realty and then Sluss Realty.

Nancy was proud of her Scottish heritage and will be remembered for being feisty and full of energy, always keeping busy. She was an accomplished artist and loved to read. She belonged to the Friends of the Galion Public Library and played bridge in the YMCA Bridge Club. Nancy most especially enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death on Dec. 1, 2005 by her husband of 59 years, Bernard W. “Bernie” Ernst, whom she married on Dec. 28, 1946.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jenny and James Lamb of Charlotte, Penny and Steve Truitt of Columbus, and Mary and John Dioguardi of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul T. and Donna Ernst of Newberry; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert Myers of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Lee and Bonnie Myers of Tucson, Ariz.

A mass for Nancy’s family in her memory will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

No calling hours will be held. An anatomical gift has been made to the Ohio State University School of Medicine.

Robert Fajnor

Robert Alan Fajnor, 59, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at a Lansing hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1950 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Sam and Florence (Wade) Fajnor Jr.

Bob was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate class of 1968, and was an avid pilot that was licensed at the age of 16. Bob’s passion was farming and he took over the family farm in Brookfield Township. He was a member of the Eaton County Farm Bureau, the NRA and he loved to hunt and fish -- a great out-doors-man.

He was preceded in death by son, Jeremy; father, Sam Jr.; two brothers, Sammy and Jerry; uncle, Maurice Wade and son-in-law, Josh Widenhofer.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta Noss of Eaton Rapids; three daughters, Jessica Fajnor of Nashville, Mich., Jennifer Fajnor-Mitchell of Vermontville and Kristin Greenman of Nashville; five grandchildren, Brandon, Hana Ivy, Wade, Patience and Grace; mother, Florence Fajnor of Eton Rapids; sister, Kathy Owens of Lansing and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Harold Allen Fancher

Harold Allen Fancher of Dimondale went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the age of 70, after a long and courageous battle against bladder cancer. Harold loved life, miniature golf with his “baby cakes”, watching the skydivers, his family, and was so very proud to have served in the United States Air Force. Harold also felt loved and blessed to be a member of the Central Free Methodist Church. He retired with many years of service from Green Bay Foods “The Pickle Plant” in Eaton Rapids. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Helen (Horner) Fancher; wife, Shirley; brother-in-law, Gerald Reeve; grandson, Matthew Beasley; and son-in-law, Willie Croskey.

Survived by wife, Barb; daughter, Kim Bryant (Billie) of Virginia; son, Tommy Fancher (Jennifer) of New Jersey; stepchildren, Trish Croskey of Lansing, Jim Shaw (Becky) of Indiana; grandchildren, Cortney, Jacob, Victoria and Ethan; sisters, Dody Reeve of Lansing, Cookie Hamilton (Robert) of Texas, Billie Owen (Dave) of Lansing; dear friends, Charlie and Annette Turbyfill of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Central Free Methodist Church at 828 N. Washington Lansing 48906. The service was officiated by Pastor Bruce Cromwell and Pastor Sue Alvera. Burial will follow at the Dimondale Cemetery. Edward Farlin

Edward E. Farlin, 72, of Charlotte, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Ingham Regional Medical Center, Greenlawn Campus in Lansing. Ed was born February 22, 1937 in Charlotte, the son of Carl B. and Wilma (Stofflet) Farlin. He was a 1955 graduate of Charlotte High School and had been employed by the McDonald’s Dairy and Country Fresh Dairy of Flint form where he retired after 43 years of service. He had lived in Flint for 38 years, returning to Charlotte eight years ago. While in Flint he had been a member of the Third Ave. Baptist Church for 25 years and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte. He had served as President of the McDonald Dairy Credit Union and was currently a member of the Eaton County Buck Club. Ed was a collector of Jim Beam Bottles and had a milk bottle collection.

Surviving are: his wife of 45 years, Susan L. (Dygert) Farlin; three sisters, Shirley (Don) Howe of Watsonville, Calif., Elizabeth (Jim) Line of Arizona and Sue (Bill) Wilson of Aurora, Calif.; brothers, Warren Farlin; mother-in-law, Katherine June Dygert of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Neil O. (Alice) Dygert of Grand Ledge; sister-in-law, Ruth (Richard) Moody of Escanaba; an aunt, Ellen Backofen and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Farlin; brother, Robert B. Farlin and father-in-law, Neil Dygert.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at the Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery in Walker, Mich. (near Grand Rapids). Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Charlotte or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Dee Yvonne Farr

Dee Yvonne Farr of Eaton Rapids, age 62, passed away in Eaton Rapids on September 10, 2009. She was born September 13, 1946 in Carson City, MI, the daughter of Gerald and Eva (Major) Ward. Dee was an extremely talented tailor, beginning work for Vogue Cleansers, continuing at One Hour Martinizing and retiring from Minsky the Tailor, where she worked for the last 12 years. She also became self employed and opened up her own tailoring business in Holt. Dee was a member of the Island City Piece Makers Quilt Guild in Eaton Rapids since 1993. She was a professional gift giver, creating the perfect quilt, toy, costume, or memory for every occasion. Dee enjoyed traveling, cooking and attending country music concerts. Her most favorite activity was spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Farr of Eaton Rapids; children, Shelli (Kevin) Dubay-Russell of Stevens Point, WI, Rob (Alicia) Dubay of Charlotte; grandchildren, Victoria and Bryce Dubay, Maeve and Jack Russell; sister, Anita Schneider of Eaton Rapids and many special friends including Patricia (Jim) Coe and Lynda (Bob) Hannahs. Dee was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Jodi Wood.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery, Okemos, MI. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265. www.shellyodell.com.
