Ronald Ray Davis
Ronald Ray Davis, 61, of Oceanview, Hawaii, died July 30 at home.
Born in Charlotte he was an Army veteran, a mechanic, owner of Ka’u Printing and a sale representative at Good Year in Kona.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Davis; father, Robert Davis and brother, Dennis, all of Charlotte.
Surviving are his wife, Erlinda, of Oceanview; sons, William Cariaga Jr. of Kona, Warren Cariaga of Oceanview, Jed (Jayleen) Cariaga of Laupahoehoe, Duane Cariaga of Kalapana, Augie (Raychelle) Agustin of Paauilo; daughter, Lynette (BJ) Kalani of Kea’au; godchild, Ku’ulei Pali of Kona; hanai-brothers, Ricahrd “Hootie” Elcoate of Michigan, Jeff Garrison of Honaunau; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held in Oceanview, Hawaii Aug. 8.
Virgil Davis
Virgil D. Davis, 80, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009. Virgil was born Feb. 25, 1929 in Charlotte, the son of Frank and Bernice (Perkins) Davis and was a lifelong Charlotte resident. He was a 1946 graduate of Charlotte High School, had been employed as a truck driver for the Michigan Welding Supply Co. and was a member of the Teamsters. He enjoyed family, travel, camping, music, sports, technology, sketching, fishing, cards and the Detroit Tigers.
Surviving is: his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Carpenter) Davis; sons, Michael (Nancy) Davis of Coldwater, Greg (Debra) Davis of Sargent, Texas and Mark (Chris) Davis of Vicksburg, Mich.; daughter, Jodi (Jeremy) Brace of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Bill (Maxine) Davis of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Debbie Davis of Muskegon and sister-ion-law, Sally Dais of Eaton Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Bob Davis and sister-in-law Roseanne Davis. At Virgil’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Private inurnment was in the Lee Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the March of Dimes or the Disabled American Veterans. Virgil’s loving nature, humor and wit will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Billie Day
Billie K. (Wilson) Day, 86, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. She was born June 17, 1923 in Kokomo, Ind., the daughter of William H. and Chloe (Gordon) Wilson and had been a Charlotte resident for 32 years coming from Lansing. She had been employed by General Motors for 13 years, by Kelly Services and Michigan National Bank from where she retired. During her high school days she was in the band where she was first chair violinist and played the piano. She was an excellent seamstress, had a great love of all animals, enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her grandkids. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is: her husband of 60 years, Garth J. Day; her daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Lilley of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Lia Lilley and Alex Lilley; two brothers, Dale Wilson of Indiana and David Wilson of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may go to the Eaton community Hospice or the First Baptist Church.
Kenneth Dedafoe
Kenneth Francis Dedafoe, 75, passed away peacefully April 23 at his home surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Ken was born June 5, 1933 to Joseph and Pauline (Hilliard) Dedafoe and grew up in Dimondale. Ken served in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Ken and Barbara Krey were married May 25, 1952. They would have celebrated their 57th anniversary this year. They had four boys and lived in the Potterville area until Ken’s retirement. Ken worked for the State of Michigan for 10 years and then retired as a lieutenant with the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department after 20 years of service. In his younger years Ken enjoyed his many fishing trips to Northern Michigan. Shortly after his retirement, Ken and Barb moved to the Houghton Lake area where they have lived for 17 years. Ken continued to fish almost daily.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Carl Dedafoe.
Surviving are his wife Barb of 56 years, sons, Kenneth (Patty) of Suffolk, Va., Don (Marie), Dave (Brenda) and Jim all of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Greg and Cristine Dedafoe of Charlotte and Christopher (a Marine stationed in Iraq) and Brittany of Virginia, brother, Ron (Nancy) Dedafoe of Onondaga, Joseph of Grayling, sisters, Gertrude Switzer of Holt and Kay Kemper of Grand Ledge, sisters-in-law, Mary (Tom) Rochon and Caroline Beam of Georgia, Joyce (Dale) Tibbitts of Pleasant Lake and brother-in-law Henry (Susan) Krey of Gladwin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. the family was served by Christler Funeral Home of Prudenville, A Memorial Service will be held in Charlotte at a later date.

Dorothy Jean (Cochrane) Desgrange
Dorothy Jean (Cochrane) Desgrange, age 87, passed away, June 14, 2009 in Lansing. She was born April 29, 1922, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Lemmon) Cochrane in Vermontville. Dorothy graduated from Charlotte High School in 1941. She married her husband Lavon on May 2, 1943. Dorothy was a farmer’s wife in the agriculture business. She assumed many roles. The most important was raising her 5 children. She assisted with the milking process, and kept the books for the family business. Dorothy worked as a Gray Lady at Eaton Rapids Medical Center for several years and the professional building in the billing department for a number of years. She was very artistic and enjoyed water painting, scrapbooking, bird and wildlife watching and going for long rides.
She is survived by her children, Vonda Warren of Charlotte, Sue and Dan Page of Eaton Rapids, Dennis and Kathy Desgrange of Eaton Rapids, Donald and Lynn Desgrange of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Jenny and Brian Cataline, Dottie and Brian Peasley, Shelly Markle, D.J. and Karen Desgrange, John Desgrange, Kyle Desgrange and Amy Desgrange; 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lavon, son John in 1964, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday June 16, 2009 at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa. Thomas Dewey
Thomas S. Dewey, 69, of Charlotte, passed away Jan. 22, 2009 after a short brave battle with cancer.
He was a life-long Charlotte resident and a retired plumber and pipe fitter of Local #333, employed by Hunter-Prell of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Pauline Dewey.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; daughter, Teri (Steve) Troemel; son, Brian (Renee) Dewey; grandchildren, Michael, Jared and Ashley Dewey, Chris and Josh Troemel; brother, John (Verdetta) Dewey; brother-in-laws/sister-in-laws, Fred and Angie Earl, Denny Wertz, Darry and Dee Wertz and Don and Linda Wertz. Also surviving are several nephews and nieces.
In everything in life, he excelled and will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor, wit and generosity.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Stella Dickey
Stella A Dickey, 82, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 8, 2009. Stella was born Oct 2, 1926 in Custer Township, Mason County, Mich., the daughter of Gustav and Vera (Cryderman) Rosander.
She is survived by her son, Dan (Karen) LeClair of Williamsburg; daughter, Donna (Rick) Schaner (Dunning) of Pentwater; daughter, Linda (Ron) Rhoads of Charlotte; son, Alan (Beth) Dickey of Nashville; daughter, Paula (Paul) Damkoehler of Webberville; daughter, Dawn Dickey of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Celeah Strong of Columbiaville; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Sanford) Wendt of Custer and Mary Lou Hubbell of Muskegon; aunt, Irene Hooghouse of Bellevue and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, where she worked for 18 years as a cook and was cared for by a loving staff during her final years.

Ethel Dickinson
Ethel G. Dickinson, 84, of Charlotte, passed away Dec. 13, 2009. Mrs. Dickinson was born May 30, 1925, in Charlotte, the daughter of Myron and Lois (Garber) Rogers. When she was young, her parents owned Gresham Store. Ethel enjoyed many things in life, like feeding the birds, her silky haired terrier, gardening and canning preserves. She most enjoyed time at home with her family and she enjoyed keeping up with her sons, with NASCAR, baseball and football. She also like short track racing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Junior Dickinson in 1977; brothers, Durwood Rogers and Forest Rogers; sisters, Doris Rogers Makely and Beverly Dies; granddaughter, Carrie Dickinson.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Dickinson of Vermontville, carol (Terry) Piddington of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mike (Sharon) Dickinson of Charlotte, Pat (Linda) Dickinson of Vermontville, Ken (Susan) Dickinson of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Stu (Denice) Dickinson of Charlotte; 22 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Marilyn Rogers.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Kathy Smith officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.

Orland R. Dickson
Orland Dickson, 92, died Aug. 30, 2009. He was born Feb. 3, 1917 in Blanchard, Michigan.
Mr. Dickson was a retired Teamster and worked at Standard Block and Supply as a truck driver. He did tree work around Big Rapids, Mecosta and Remus, Michigan.
He loved hunting and fishing and also loved to dance. He was a 1935 Odemos High School graduate. He was preceded in death by brother, Rudy Dickson; parents Loren and Effie Dickson; nephews, Tim VanHeck and Ron Gleason; sister, Pearl Bigger and brother, Lorenzo Dickson.
Surviving are son, Ricky (Claudia) Dickson of Charlotte; step-son Joe Major and family of Protondam, MI; 3 grandchildren, Kyle (Jennifer) Dickson, GA Suwanee, Misti (Dave) Hempfling of Chicago, IL and Ricky Jr., of Charlotte; 5 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Junaita Dickson and Rita Dickson; 2 sisters, Carrie Gleason and Stella VanHeck.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 12 Noon at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI.
Officiating was Pastor Mark Woodbury, Assembly of God, Charlotte. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lillian Evelin Dillin
Lillian Evelin Dillin of Eaton Rapids, MI age 89, passed away Tuesday April 14, 2009 at Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte, MI. Lillian was born December 13, 1919 in Onondaga Township to Earl Walter and Ethel May (Priest) Higdon. She enjoyed her two cats, quilting, flower gardening, and collecting beanie’s and dolls. She was a lifelong area resident and was a lifelong area resident and was employed at the VFW Home for Children for over 25 years. Lillian married Charles Edward “Ed” Dillin on November 23, 1940.
Lillian is survived by two daughters, Rosalie (“Chick”) Harmon and Diana (Terry) Chappel; son, Thomas (Sheryl) Dillin; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter; brother, Ralph Higdon; two sisters, Arlene Andreas and Myrtle Kendall. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles Edward “Ed” Dillin; two brothers, Floyd and Maynard Higdon; sister, Alice Higdon.
