Alberta Dodge Craun
Alberta Dodge Craun of Eaton Rapids, age 96, passed away in Mason, Thursday, October 22, 2009. She was born in Ingham County, February 8, 1913, the daughter of John and Carrie (Comstock) Speer. Alberta was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids and the Eaton Rapids Senior Center. She enjoyed going to auctions and upholstering furniture.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirlyn (Dick) Russell of Lansing; son, Bill (Beverly) Dodge of Lansing; daughters-in-law, Evelyn McClung and Janice Dodge; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Basil Dodge and Roy Craun; sons, Ralph McClung, Bob Dodge, John McClung; infant daughter, Donna McClung; 4 sisters and a brother.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, MI. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, MI. Sylvia Craun
Sylvia Irene (Swift) Craun, 78, of Vermontville, died Saturday, March 28, 2009. Mrs. Craun was born June 5, 1930 in Bellevue, the daughter of Rue and Hortense (Kelley) Swift.
Mrs. Craun attended Nashville Baptist Church for 30 years and was recently attending Vermontville Bible Church.
She was a member of the Vermontville Women’s Club, the North Kalamo Birthday Club, and enjoyed volunteering for many organizations in the Eaton County area including Eaton County Clothing Bank, and the Eaton County Department of Social Services.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Russell Craun in 1999 and their infant son, David in 1951.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Kathy (Ron) Lane of East LeRoy, Mich.; sons, Steven (Phyllis) Craun of Leslie, Mich., Gary (Pamela) Craun of North Manchester, Ind.; along with six grandchildren, Laura and Brandon Craun, Joshua and Caleb Craun, Kelly (Matt) Dye, Jessica (Mike) Carpenter and four great grandchildren, Brayden and Tyler Carpenter, Allyson and Marissa Dye; sisters, Donna Wood of Charlotte and Rosemary Perkins of Vermontville; brother-in-law, Virgil (Mary) Craun of Homer; and sister-in-law, Irene Brown of Lansing.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastors Dan Smith and Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo.

Gertrude Criner
Gertrude I. (Plowman) Criner, 98, of Dimondale, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009. Ms. Criner was born April 16, 1911 in Conway Township, Mich., the daughter of Arvid and Nettie (White) Hoag.
Ms. Criner worked for Federal Mogul until retiring in 1969.
She was preceded in death by half-brothers, Wilbur, Wesley and Harry; half-sisters, Lottie and Mable; and sister, Winifred.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Whipple of Lansing; son, Paul (Jill) Plowman of Paris, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Linda Anderson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Eleanor Crittenden
Eleanor B. Crittenden, 100, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009. Mrs. Crittenden was born June 29, 1908 the fourth child of Ecford and Emma (Goff) Hill.
She married Jay B. Crittenden on Jan. 21, 1929. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law; one granddaughter; two great-great granddaughters; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, William (Marilyn) Crittenden of Charlotte; daughters, Jackie Hare of Eaton Rapids, Lorraine Bronson of Lake Odessa and Barbara (Dale) Rolfe of Kalamazoo; 17 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 37 great-great grandchildren; sister, Cora Bailor of Grand Ledge and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Barbara Cross
Barbara Jean Cross, 82, of Manton, Mich., died Saturday, March 7, 2008. Mrs. Cross was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Charlotte, the daughter of Walter and Keitha (Silver) Ball.
Barbara grew up on the family farm in Chester Township of Eaton County. She married Theo Cross on Nov. 11, 1947. Together they raised their family in the Charlotte area. After the children were all in school, Barbara began working for the Charlotte Public School system and also furthered her education, earning a B.A. from Michigan State University in 1981. After retiring from Charlotte Public Schools, she was the head librarian of the Pentwater Public Library, where she and Theo were long-time residents.
Barbara loved the beaches of the Great Lakes and the Oceans of the world. With special companion Kenneth Bennett, she spent her last years splitting her time between her condo in Orange Beach, Ala., and Ken's home in Stalwart, Mich. They also traveled extensively.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Keitha Ball; husband, Theo Cross and a sister, Joann Loughan.
She is survived by her children, sons, Steve (Brenda) Cross of Manton, Mich., Bryan (Joni) Cross of Challis, Idaho; daughters, Theo Jane Cross of Jackson, Mich., Lee Ann (Joeseph) Guitierrez of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Marian (Charles) Weaver.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 13, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating.

Minnie L. Cupp
Minnie L. Cupp of Eaton Rapids, age 90, passed away June 25, 2009 in Lansing. She was born November 18, 1918 in Grand Ledge, the daughter of John and Minnie (Shadduck) Willis. Minnie was raised in Eaton Rapids by her aunt, Lillian (Willis) and uncle, William Owen since her birth., She was employed with Knapp’s and Twichell Grocery Store and Vaughn’s Apparel. Minnie was a Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge #142 IOOF.
She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Cupp of 57 years; daughter, Annette (James) Morin, Mary Cupp both of Lansing; sons, Bob (Theresa) Cupp, Dan Cupp both of Eaton Rapids; 2 step-sons James (Glynda) Cupp, Bruce (Deborah) Cupp both of Florida; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle; 5 brothers and 3 sibling cousins.

Lura L. Cushman
Lura L. Cushman of Onondaga and formerly of Springport, age 81 died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at a Lansing hospital. Born May 28, 1927 in Hanover, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred (Skinner) Gordon. Mrs. Cushman was the former owner and operator with her husband Russel of the Cushman’s Marathon Gas Station in Springport. She loved to work in her flower gardens and was a very accomplished cook. She enjoyed collecting sewing thimbles and dolls. Preceding her in death was her husband, Russel in 1984; granddaughter Tracy Mohler and brother, William Gordon.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, and 1 son, Mary Mohler of Onondaga, Linda (Randy) Babcock of Eaton Rapids, Russel (Missy) Cushman of Onondaga and Sandy (Jim) Howell of Springport; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on May 8, 2009 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Springport Cemetery. Faye E. Dahlstrom
Faye E. Dahlstrom of Eaton Rapids, age 89, passed away in Eaton Rapids, September 18, 2009. She was born in Dyersburg, TN, March 14, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Hammonds) Bayne. Faye retired from Fisher Body in 1977, after 25 years of service. She was a member of UAW Local 602. Faye most enjoyed shopping and dancing.
She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (John) Benedict of Auburn Hills; sons, Barry (Cary) Davis of Brighton, Dennis (Sherry) O’Neil of Eaton Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Faye was preceded in death by her parents.

Gerold Lee Dassance
Gerold Lee Dassance, 57, of Eaton Rapids died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at his home. He was born July 18, 1951 in Pontiac to Levi Stephen and Luella Marie (Eash) Dassance.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed making leather crafts and riding motorcycles. Jerry has been a member of the Family M.C. for 33 years and was known to his brothers as "Contagious”.
He is survived by his parents; three sons, Jeff (Mandy) Dassance of Eaton Rapids, Jay Jones of Fla., and Matthew Dassance of Eaton Rapids; three sisters, Arlene Dassance of Dimondale, Diana (Daryl) Bunker of Olivet, and Barbara (Ron) Adleman of Eaton Rapids; two brothers, Paul (Connie) Dassance of Charlotte and Mike Dassance of Eaton Rapids; and many nieces and nephews and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Jodi Lynn Dassance and sister, Patricia Patterson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Interment will be in Meauwataka Cemetery, Manton.

Lyndell Davis
Lyndell R. Davis, 77, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009. Mr. Davis was born June 51, 1932 in Revere, MO, the son of Lawrence and Jessie (Brown) Davis.
Mr. Davis worked in retail sales. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, landscaping and talking with people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy Gene Davis and granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Joe Ann; daughters, Diane (Robert) Lynch of Vancouver, Wash.; Susan (Norman) Davis of Carson City and Lyndell (Mike) Wdovech of Plainfield, Ill.; sons, Lawrence (Sheila) Davis of Stanton, Mich.; Bruce (Nan) Davis of Kalamazoo and Jason (Kellie) Davis of Morrice; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Etta Bess Peiffer of Crystal and Dottie Feighner of Wacousta; brother, Kenny (Dorothy) Davis of Grand Ledge.

Robert Davis
Robert L. Davis, 59, of Charlotte, died Thursday March 5, 2009. Mr. Davis was born April 2, 1949 in Nevada City, Calif., the son of Donald and Naomi Wallen.
Mr. Davis was a construction worker.
He is survived by his children, Tracey Main, Christina (James) Vanderpols, Matthew Davis and Brandy Davis; sister, Virginia Wagner and brother, John David Wallen.
